It is almost the middle of the night, and everyone seems to be asleep in Yagami’s apartment. When the moon gets hidden by the gray clouds, it’s raining.

Soon enough, gentle raindrops grow into a heavy, pouring rain. And thus, a rhythmic, loud tapping at the window wakes one redhead.

Surely, it’s frustrating how such a simple thing disturbs his rest.

Suddenly, the lightning strikes, and he feels how someone clings to him and rubs his head against his chest before exhaling and releasing him.

At first, Iori assumes Kyo woke up as well. Yet, when he whispers his partner’s name, he doesn’t receive any response.

The redhead understands that the Kusanagi is unconsciously influenced by the weather while dreaming about something.

While Iori stares through the window, he wonders.

It’s been a while since he had such a sleepless night during the storm, or even much longer since that one time. That one rainy night changed their relationship completely. Or perhaps, just fastened the inevitable.

A few years ago.

A couple of weeks have passed since Kyo’s wounds have healed.

Of course, he didn’t want to use his rival’s kindness for too long by living rent-free in his apartment. Nor to make Iori think he is taking advantage of him. And thus, when he could stand on his feet, he left.

Besides, he still feels guilty for making his family and friends worry about his sudden disappearance for a year. Perhaps he was buried in someone’s mind. But Kyo still worries about how he’ll get greeted or that his rival nursed him.

Either way, he wouldn’t mind staying longer if Yagami asked him. Strangely, he almost got used to it as it was his own home.

A month passed by. Finally, after a long time, the brunette is ready to have another match against Iori.

Besides, he is as thrilled as Iori, and it might be a good practice and a better way to get back in shape. Or so Kyo is determined as he fixes the biker gloves and puts on the white jacket before leaving.

After arriving at the destination place, he spots one certain redhead leaning against the wall.

When Iori notices him, he delightfully smiles and crosses his arms. “You’ve made me wait for you, Kyo.”

“Aren’t you so eager to get your ass kicked?” The Kusanagi replies as he raises his palm and ignites it. While the orange flame dances on his palm, he adds. “Fine. Just don’t get burnt~”

When Yagami approaches him, he repeats the same movement. “You talk too much… This time you’ll sing your swan song!”

Lastly, the brunette announces as the little fire sparkles in his eyes. “I would love to see that. Let’s do this, Yagami!”. Thus, after both dim their flames, both charge at each other, another fierce battle begins.

Some time passes. Finally, the match is over, but there is no clear winner. Apparently, both opponents barely stand while catching their breath.

While Iori holds onto himself and pants, he stares at Kyo, who wipes his mouth with a fist, giving a mocking look. “Have you realized that the victory is mine?”

Unfortunately, his launched punch is too weak that it’s enough for the redhead to move a bit and dodge the strike.

When the brunette harshly collapses on the gravel, he grunts.

“Tsk. Look who is talking?” Iori backfires as he bends and places his arm under his rival’s armpit. After they stand up together, he adds. “Either way, you’re going with me.”

Kyo only gives a questioning look. “What are you talking about?”

“Isn’t obvious? Your wounds need to be treated before you’ll face me next time.” Yagami explains while supporting the brunette.

After a while, they arrive at Iori’s apartment.

At first, the Kusanagi doubts his rival’s intentions when they enter the living room, and the redhead asks him to remove his black long-sleeved t-shirt.

Nevertheless, he does what is told and waits for Iori.

A few minutes pass. And thus, Yagami returns while carrying the first aid kit and sits close to him on the couch.

When the redhead opens the medkit and picks up the spray disinfectant, he orders. “Give me your arm.”

When Kyo turns his head away, he extends his arm. For now, he doesn’t mind how Iori holds his wrist or him examining his arm.

Yet, the sensation of the cold, stinging liquid sprayed over it makes him close his eyes.

“What’s wrong? It needs to be clean. So, hold it like this for a bit longer.” The redhead comments while he dries the disinfected area by gently tapping with the sterile cotton.

After he wraps the medical bandage around Kyo’s arm, he repeats the same process with another one.

Yet, the Kusanagi panics when Iori parts his legs with his knee and leans closer.

It doesn’t help that he cannot read the redhead’s serious face.

“The heck you’re doing?” The brunette widens his eyes and presses his back against the couch.

Meanwhile, Iori only narrows his gaze and sticks the white plaster on Kyo’s cheek.

After studying the brunette for longer, he remarks. “You don’t seem to have more wounds.”.

When Iori withdraws and tidies the left mess, he gets up and adds. “You can dress up and leave.”

For sure, ever since Iori brought him to his apartment after the NESTS lab incident, Kyo has noticed such weird behavior.

Of course, the brunette is curious whether Yagami is always like this or something bothers him.

That’s why he is determined to uncover the truth, even if he might get dragged out and thrown by the back of his collar.

When Kyo rests his hands behind his shoulders and sinks into the couch, he replies. “Why? I’m all good at staying here. Besides, I have no plans for tonight. So, be glad that I am gonna keep you a company.”

“Why do you have to be like this?” Iori facepalms.

The Kusanagi simply answers. “You’ve been acting strangely.”

“And you’re sticking your nose into other’s business as usual,” Iori complains.

“Then you wouldn’t put on a show like now if nothing happened. You’re in some sort of trouble, but you’re too stubborn to ask for help.” Kyo backfires.

As he lowers his arms and looks down, he feels a tightness in his throat, making it difficult to speak. After shakily exhaling, he adds while clenching his palms into the fists. “How can’t you understand that you’re not alone and the entire world is not your enemy? It’s okay to rely on others or at least on me if you don’t trust that much anyone, you know. And… I don’t want to see you suffering.”

Meanwhile, Yagami only rolls his eyes and thinks to himself. “Then do not interfere and leave me alone, you fool.”

Lastly, Kyo confesses in a calm tone. “I know I cannot lift your blood curse, nor you denounce your name to end it. However, at least let me relieve a part of your pain. Because I don’t want to lose you ever again.”

Suddenly, Iori corners his rival and grasps his throat while he doesn’t remove his eyes from him.

As his hand slides to the side of his neck, Kyo breathes a sigh of relief and looks at him, still in shock. “Yagami?”

“Don’t tell me I didn’t warn you.” The redhead whispers.

Just before Kyo says anything else, he closes his eyes and gasps when Iori sinks his face into the crook of his neck and starts licking it.

Soon enough, the sound of the thunderstorm and heavy rain made him widen his eyes.

The sensation of how his sensitive neck is assaulted bewilders Kyo. All he can do is hold back from letting out the purring-like noises. More so, without realizing it, he wraps one arm around his partner’s shoulders.

After such a gesture, Iori withdraws his face and stares at Kyo. For now, he is just as confused as the brunette.

However, none of them say anything, or there is no need to waste time on that. A second later, the redhead gives a questioning look to the Kusanagi while his placed hand on his chest slides down his abs.

Of course, Kyo is aware of what it will lead to, but he doesn’t mind. If this is what his partner wants or simply seeking comfort, then so be it.

After all, it’s the person to whom he can entrust his life and body. Iori saw and accepted him when he was most vulnerable, pathetic, and broken.

Besides, it should be fine to do it with someone he knows rather than being violated by soulless machines and disposed of after fulfilling his purpose. Or so Kyo decides, as he only closes his eyes and nods.

More so, if he was disgusted or didn’t want it, he could still push Iori away and run. The fact that Iori had concealed these powerful feelings for an unknown length of time was more shocking than finally revealing them.

In the end, the brunette leaves the rest for his partner.

Several minutes pass. Aside from the raindrops rapidly tapping the window, the bedroom is filled with lover cries and groaning.

Only watching his long-time rival making such lewd, adorable expressions and sounds even more arouses Iori.

After all, it’s his first time seeing this side of Kyo. However, it only makes him desire of him more.

More so, the redhead hopes that nobody witnessed before or ever will something endearing that only belongs to him. He is even ready to kill anyone on the spot, whoever would dare to touch Kyo or take him away from him again.

Meanwhile, the brunette addresses his partner. “I don’t get it. You keep saying that you’ll kill me… But now… You.. you’re doing the opposite.”

When Iori stops moving, Kyo realizes he did something wrong and ruined the intimate moment.

However, he widens his eyes when Yagami holds his hands and pulls him to a kiss. At first, such a gesture genially confused Kyo.

After all, it’s only sex which only purpose is to use someone to get what you want, even if that person objects. Or so the brunette learned it the hard way.

That’s why, now it feels the opposite of what he had experienced in the lab. Surprisingly, it’s even something pleasant for him, and he doesn’t feel ashamed and stressed at all.

But for now, as soon as their fingers intertwine, Kyo blissfully closes his eyes while enjoying being embraced by Iori.

In the end, the Kusanagi can swear that the rain slowly soothes his scars from the past when he is being held by this man.

Back to the present.

Eventually, the storm finally calms down.

Suddenly, the Kusanagi’s struggling, and his sleepy voice returns the redhead to his senses. “What is it with you? Did you have a nightmare or something?”

Apparently, when Iori was staring out the window, he didn’t notice how he wrapped his arms around Kyo.

While Iori refuses to let him go, he replies. “Nothing. Just been thinking about something. So, go back to sleep.”

“And you need to use me as a plush toy for that?” The brunette genially asks.

However, he receives no answers, only having his head pressed against his partner’s chest.

Some time passed. It’s the beginning of the next day.

When Kyo gets up, the first thing is checking through the window. After noticing the view outside for a couple of minutes, he covers his face with one palm and fixes his hair upon remembering certain events. “You idiot…”

Perhaps yesterday, Iori saw the same rain as that one time.

A couple of hours pass. After Shiki washes the still unconscious Akira, he carries him to the bedroom and puts him into a gray pajama.

As the vampire observes his peacefully sleeping partner, he brushes his hair from his face.

Despite his unexplained warm emotions upon seeing Akira, he is determined to keep his prized possession close and protect him.

More so, the bite marks on the hunter’s body prove he belongs to him and no one else.

He even carried Akira to his personal bath to wash him safely. After all, pure water - be it a holy one or not, irritates his skin, and if he stays longer in it, it can leave terrible rashes and burn him.

On the other hand, mixing the water with aromatic herb oil negates its effect. Therefore, the vampire could take care of his human.

But for now, while Shiki enjoys the lingering herb scent on Akira, he tucks him under the blanket. Human life is fragile.

More so, it will be troublesome if anything bad happens to him. He denies developing stronger feelings for the blue-eyed male and resisting the urge to give him more attention.

These thoughts are nothing more than irrational and should be gone soon. Something that only weak, selfish, and stupid creatures like humans would waste time on it. Or so the red-eyed vampire convinces himself. Yet, such cold logic fails when it comes to the silver-haired hunter.

In the past, he did not need to bother himself with anything even remotely close to this nonsense. That’s why,  he is anxious about something he cannot explain.

For now, Shiki sits next to slumbering Akira.

However, accusing Akira of trying to befriend and kill him is pointless and childish.

More so, the silver-haired male hasn’t such ulterior motives nor has any acting skills, and Shiki can see through him as a clear glass.

As Shiki picks the small, silver cross from his pants pocket, he studies it and remembers. When he brought Akira to the inner quarters for the first time, he returned to the master room to retrieve this holy relic.

He wondered why this person relied on it and used it as a last resort to defend himself. It wasn’t even blessed, nor did it possess any secret power that only legendary hunters could unleash. It was about as useful as a fifth leg would be to a dog.

That’s why Shiki took it to the alchemy laboratory to learn the truth behind it.

After he prepared all the needed instruments, he turned on the gas lighter and dropped the necklace into the testing tube. As the bright blue flame wrapped the bottom of the tube, this piece of jewelry melts.

However, Shiki turned off the lighter immediately when he saw something inside the cross. Upon pouring the molten metal on the testing plate, he observed it.

The noble creature of the night cracked a smile. Someone implanted a tiny tracking device in it. In the end, Shiki picked up his katana and smashed the device by its handle.

That should let anyone know that they should give up. After all, their sent pawn is dead.

But for now, the vampire plays with the hunter’s cross between his fingers and wonders.

The blue-eyed male wasn’t just here to kill him and get a generous bounty. If so, he wouldn’t receive a mere decoration like this.

Someone wanted Akira to infiltrate the castle for whatever reason. Well, whoever is the mastermind behind this, and if their goal is still unclear, it doesn’t matter.

On the other hand, the longer Akira stays in the castle, the more often Shiki senses an overfamiliar presence that lurks somewhere in the darkest shadows. That dark, chilling energy that cannot be mistaken for anyone else.

No, that cruel entity didn’t return to haunt him, not just after unbearable humiliation a long time ago. That demonic creature doesn’t stalk him to taunt him or laugh at him, and Shiki knows that.

Within time, the dark-haired male realized that HE momentarily appeared and watched Akira over, somewhere in the distance, with his changing color, glowing eyes.

Suddenly, Shiki grasps the cross and grinds his teeth, just knowing how day by day this creature gets closer, yet HIS presence instantly vanishes when Shiki chases HIM.

More importantly, after he took down another challenger yesterday, was no exception.

After he facepalms and fixes his hair, he opens his eyes and puts the small cross into his pocket.

For now, the red-eyed vampire stares at Akira, wondering what could be so special about this human that he even attracts his long-time-forgotten enemy after many years.

He is a troublemaker who has a significant talent for finding problems where they don’t exist. Secondly, his blood has an extraordinary taste that no mortal ever has. He can’t even hold a sword.

Yet, there is something unexplainable about the silver-haired male that keeps even a merciless, dark ruler of the night attracted to him.

It even makes Shiki give in to the morbid curiosity that he barely felt before and desiring him.

In the end, the vampire considers granting this human wish. Even if it’s Shiki’s personal whim, he wants to see how far he can push the hunter’s limits and how he’ll grow. Maybe someday, the vampire allow him to face him again, but without holding back.

Perhaps, this time, the outcome of their fight could be different. Who knows?

But for now, before taking his leave and dealing with another pesky challenger, he almost touches Akira’s cheek. Even so, he withdraws his palm and himself and freezes at the last moment.

He doesn’t understand why he did such a stupid thing, as if he instinctively did it. In the end, he only exhales and leaves the room.

Some time passes. Finally, the blue-eyed male wakes up. When he sits, he closes his eyes and sighs.

He is certain - that the pesky shape-shifting creature is not here.

Of course, he isn’t. Why should he be here?

Maybe he is hunting for new prey or playing with his target before finishing it. After completing his daily tasks, the vampire turns into a panther and spends time with the silver-haired man before sleeping on him.

Then, a new day will arise, and the same circle will repeat until Shiki drains him to death or gets bored by him and replaces him.

After all, what is a human’s life for the immortal? It’s nothing more than dust in the desert. A mere blink compared to the timeless life-span of noble creatures of the night that fought more battles than there are stars in the sky.

Therefore, anyone else temporal life means nothing for vampires or demons. Besides, why would such creatures feel any emotional connection towards a mere source of nutrients? A wolf would never cry after eating sheep. Otherwise, such a predator won’t survive in nature.

So, Shiki should be like any other of his kind - just a cold-blooded killing machine, as Akira is just another prey for him.

Despite that, the blue-eyed hunter cannot accept being slowly eaten alive. At least his remains of pride refuse. He acknowledges that he stands no chance of fighting and winning against the vampire.

Even so, Akira continues to prove that he is not a vampire’s toy, nor anyone will break his will.

Hell, he is aware that he cannot leave the castle, nor he wants it anymore. More so, if he outlives Shiki somehow, he’ll make it into his new fortress, desolated by the outside world. Even the idea of the solitary life as the ruler of the vampire’s castle strangely comforts him.

But for now, he widens his eyes by hearing a familiar voice. “You are finally awake. Took you long enough.”

Upon turning his head, Akira notices the vampire leaning against the wall next to the door with his arms crossed. The first thing that catches his eye is that aside from not wearing his long coat nor carrying his sword, Shiki is more chilled than usual.

Suddenly, the memories of yesterday flow inside the hunter’s mind, and his poker face cracks. As he feels the rushing heat to his cheeks, he asks. “Why are you here? It’s still too early for you to annoy me.”

Such a reaction amuses the ebony-haired man, who smirks like a feline.

“What do you want from me?” The silver-haired man inquires without removing his eyes from his partner, who approaches him.

After he lowers his gaze, he spots a familiar katana resting against the night-drawer. Instead of using it against its owner, he gives a mildly bewildered look as he asks how long it has been there.

Soon, he complains. “Why is it here and can you stop using your vampire charms for once? Because their effect is growing weaker.”

No matter how he is tempted to tease his partner, he holds back from commenting. Besides, if this is what he wants to believe, let him be. Or so decides the vampire.

After a temporary pause, he sits next to Akira and asks. “Your name?”

The hunter is confused by his partner’s question. For now, he lowers his gaze while grasping the blanket without understanding Shiki’s ulterior motives.

Yet, without receiving the wanted answers, the vampire remains persistent and leans closer. “Come on. Just say it.”

In the end, Akira glimpses at him before closing his eyes and replying in a humble voice. “Akira.”

Meanwhile, Shiki delightfully stares at the hunter and repeats the hunter’s name as if it were a newly learned foreign word. A second later, he remarks. “… Someone who can be bent but cannot be broken.”

However, the silver-haired male uses his chance while Shiki is in a better mood and replies. “Then you also owe me some answers.”

“What is it?” The red-eyed swordsman asks.

As Akira fixates his eyes on his partner, he states. “You took too long to deal with the previous challenger.”

Shiki only closes his eyes and cracks a smile. “Hmph. Were you worrying about your master’s well-being?”

It was a last drop of Akira’s patience, and he scolds the vampire. “Cut it out and take it seriously!…”.

When he notices how the smug look on Shiki’s face was wiped, he realizes that is screwed. Nevertheless, he continues. “You wouldn’t just show up as a panther and behaved as you did, if that was a mere hunter. Something terrible happened. I don’t know what it is, but I don’t like it.”

He feels that he angered the vampire. Yet, he refuses to close his eyes or shrug. For now, he slightly withdraws and nervously swallows the saliva while staring at Shiki, whose face darkens.

After a minute of intense silence, the dark-haired male turns his head away and replies. “It’s none of your concern.”

“If you throw your life away recklessly without saying a word, it is.” Akira backfires.

Shiki only closes his eyes and silently chuckles while shaking his head. “Idiot…”

When he lifts his head and opens his eyes, he explains. “What happened in the past should not concern you… No matter what madness of one man you saw or if that may come back to haunt you. So, get rid of useless emotions if you want to become strong to take your revenge.”

The blue-eyed hunter is clueless why Shiki is telling all this, nor what it could mean. Despite that, he genially asks. “But it happened now. Does it have anything to do with that person? Do I know him?”

In the end, the vampire turns his head to face his partner. “All you need to know is that you are a trouble-maker that cannot be left alone.”

After a brief pause, he gets up and orders. “Either way… Get up. We’re leaving.”

“Where?” The silver-haired hunter asks.

“You need to eat. Then we’ll start on your training.” Shiki briefly explains.

Of course, it doesn’t sound too promising for Akira. More so, knowing Shiki by far, it could mean anything.

But he understands the vampire won’t leave him alone until he gets what he wants. In the end, he closes his eyes and removes the blanket.

When he gets up, he covers his sore bottom with his palm. For now, he gives a slightly irritated look to Shiki, who remarks. “If it is too early for you to walk, maybe your training should be delayed.”

However, Akira only lifts his head and walks towards the closet. After he picks the dark bathrobe, he puts it on. “And then, you gonna show up the next day asking for the same thing. So, let’s just get going.”

When the silver-haired male fixes the bathrobe, he walks by Shiki and prompts him by the gaze of his blue eyes alone.

For sure, such a gesture satisfies the red-eyed vampire. After all, his human becoming more confident.

An hour passes. After the hunter finishes his meal, he changes into Shiki’s left clothes for him. The outfit he received this time was the same Victorian-era one as before. The only difference was that there was also a pair of leather gloves, and instead of a cotton vest, this one was made from sturdy leather.

Of course, Shiki also mentioned it would be useful during the training. After all, Akira still has no idea what his partner meant by training. More so, knowing the vampire’s nature, it could be anything.

Nevertheless, he is more curious than concerned, even if that might be the ebony-haired male’s other way of teasing him.

Currently, the silver-haired hunter enjoys leaving the inner quarters. Even though he is supervised by Shiki.

After wandering in the castle corridors, they reach an old oak door and enter inside.

Akira's intuition alerts him as he feels the coldness in the air and notices the only light source is fire torches on the stone walls, indicating something is suspicious.

Suddenly, the gentle push on his lower back returns him to his senses, and he turns his head to meet the crimson eyes that suggest he shouldn’t stay behind.

And thus, he doesn’t leave the vampire’s side and goes down this endless spiral staircase.

Fortunately, it doesn’t take long to reach a small corridor branching to two sides. On the left and the right side, there are doors.

But for now, Akira follows Shiki to whatever is behind the door on the left.

Apparently, it’s a medieval-style weaponry storage.

For sure, the blue-eyed hunter had never witnessed such a vast collection of weapons, ranging from combat knives to spears, swords, whips, long axes, and much more. There were even a few modern shotguns on the shelves, and who knows what else was hidden in the sealed wooden boxes.

Hell, any of his visited weapon shops could only dream about this place.

Either way, he doesn’t understand why Shiki would ever need such weaponry. On the other hand, it won’t be surprising that it might be just his trophy collection from his defeated enemies.

Meanwhile, the vampire addresses his partner before going deeper into the storage. “Just wait here.”

Lastly, he observes how his partner searches for a specific item. After he returns carrying a familiar-looking katana, he tosses it at him. “Here.”

Even after Akira catches it in his hands, he raises his eyebrow while studying the given weapon.

“It should do it for now.” The vampire calmly adds while passing him by. Just before opening the door, he turns his head, asking the hunter to follow him.

A few minutes pass by.

Upon entering the right door, the hunter is welcomed by a long corridor adorned with crossed weapons and warrior statues in various battle positions.

Of course, another detail that catches his eye is the several locked cells on each side. After glimpsing through the gaps of the bars on the top, inside some cells, there are hanging skeletons or exhausted, wounded prisoners.

Suddenly, the silver-haired male is alerted when he hears the rattling bars or groaning like undead.

However, the vampire explains. “Ignore them. These are weaklings who have broken the game rules or went against me.”

“What game?” The hunter gives him a curious look.

Shiki only briefly cracks a smile. “Next time, I’ll take you with me and show you.”

As they walk further, the previous voices shut down after not receiving attention from the silver-haired male.

After a while, they finally reach an old elevator covered in red rust, which reminds a large cage. Even behind it, there is visible an extension of this corridor.

Soon enough, the elevator automatically opens while creaking. Surely, it doesn’t look trustworthy. They won’t use it, right? Or so Akira hopes so.

Yet, the vampire gives him an indifferent look. “What are you doing? Get inside.”

No matter how the hunter wants to protest, he plays along.

Suddenly, the elevator closes the door from both sides, and it slowly goes up. Surprisingly, aside from the loud gear and chain grinding, it runs smoothly.

When the elevator arrives at the second floor, it stops and opens the door to let out all the passengers.

This floor differs from the previous one because there are no prisoner cells, only a tall gate securing something behind the wooden lock. And thus, Shiki lifts it.

After being greeted by a couple of hooded men in robes, they enter deep into the spacious field.

As Shiki leans against the wall, he addresses his partner. “What are you waiting for? Your training starts now!”

“What are you?-” Akira speaks up before he gets alerted when the ground trembles and a group of new enemies emerge.

Suddenly, the undead bandits charge at him.

The silver-haired hunter closes his eyes and cuts the zombies with a heavy slash. Upon the bloodstream, the dead howl before hitting the ground.

Soon enough, the necromancers raise their arms and cast another spell.

As Akira pants and opens his eyes, an additional threat arises - this time, a couple of armored skeletons surround him.

For sure, the luck is on his side, and he dodges the double attack. Lastly, he grasps the sword and uses a lower strike.

Meanwhile, Shiki only studies his partner’s movement while he takes down another target and exhales. After all, the hunter leaves so many open spots while relying on aimless swinging like an amateur.

The more he observes Akira, the more he notes what flaws he should fix. Yet, he is mildly entertained watching this human who keeps fighting and refuses to give up or ask for help.

Finally, the last challenger shows up. Apparently, it’s a few meters tall armor knight wielding a chained steel ball.

As the monster stares at its victim with white glowing orbs through the gaps of the helmet, it roars and swings the chain into the air.

Even so, Akira nearly gets crushed by a thrown metal ball.

Soon, the creature brings the chain close to it.

One thing is for sure, it will be difficult to approach the enemy from such a distance.

However, his further thoughts are interrupted by another heavy attack and the armored knight taking a few steps closer to him.

Crushing strike after crushing strike and the hunter’s energy is nearly drained from dodging and rolling. It might be a matter of time before he passes out.

Even so, he wants to try one idea which may kill him.

As Akira stands up, he waits for the armored knight to swing its chain.

When the heavy ball is thrown at him, Akira shakily closes his eyes and slides forward into the beast. While his opponent is busy withdrawing his weapon, the hunter picks up his sword and slashes the creature’s arm that holds the chain.

After the armored knight howls after the lost limb, it punches the stunned hunter and sends him flying off across the arena.

As Akira’s back harshly hits the wall, he gasps before collapsing. All he can do is lie on the ground while the armored knight picks up the chain with his remaining arm and approaches him.

When the vampire is about to draw his blade, he is immediately stopped by the silver-haired hunter’s voice. “It’s not over yet! I can still move…”

Meanwhile, before necromancers are about to summon a new enemy, Shiki gives them a cold, piercing look. “Begone!”.

Thus, a couple of robbed men raise their hands, and as the darkness surrounds them, they disappear like smoke.

Finally, while the creature swings its arm with an iron ball, Akira shakily leans on his elbows and stares at his opponent with a determined gaze.

Suddenly, the diagonal slash cuts it in half. Just before the beast collapses, Akira widens his eyes as he is carried far away from the fallen enemy.

In the end, he realizes he is in the vampire’s arms upon hearing him. “I’ve seen enough…”

More so, from his serious face and voice alone, he knows that he disappointed Shiki.

However, he has no idea why it hurts him more than his still-aching body. For now, he turns his head away and waits until they return to the bedroom, where he can rest without needing to face Shiki.

After the vampire sighs, he addresses his partner. “You can rest for today… You earned it.”

In the meantime, Akira is confused if his senses tricked him or whether he misheard the last part.

Of course, he wants to object, but the best thing he can do is cling to Shiki’s shirt with one hand.

For sure, such a gesture thrills the dark-haired swordsman. “What is it with you? I would just check your wounds first.”

While Akira is being carried, he only closes his eyes and buries his face in the vampire’s chest. After all, he doesn’t understand why he is genuinely relieved and feeling that inner warmth for the first time. However, at the moment, he doesn’t mind this feeling.

Another day begins, and thus, Shiki takes Akira to the arena for the training. Of course, the hunter mentally prepares himself for what kind of monsters he may need to face this time.

However, there are no necromancers, nor anyone else aside from this couple.

Perhaps, today, the lord of darkness decided to use him as his training dummy. The hunter wonders while they are getting closer to the arena’s center.

Instead, he hears a brief demand. “Show me how you swing sword.”

“Huh? Didn’t see enough yesterday?” The silver-haired hunter complains.

After the hunter draws his blade, he swings it high until the tip of it almost touches his back. Suddenly, he lands a heavy strike.

“Did I ask you to chop the wood? Try one more time.” The vampire comments.

Meanwhile, Akira gives an annoyed look and raises the sword again. Yet, he panics when he feels Shiki’s body pressing against his back. As he turns his head and lowers the blade, he addresses his partner. “What are you?-”

“Straighten your back and raise your head.” Shiki orders while he holds Akira’s chin with one hand and makes him face forward. When he wraps his other arm around his partner’s waist, he fixes his posture and continues. “Never swing your weapon above your head. You’ll only exhaust yourself without dealing any damage.”

After the red-eyed swordsman gracefully leaves his side, he instructs. “Try again.”

Lastly, Akira closes his eyes and exhales. Lastly, he follows the orders and… Slash! His strike is successful.

For sure, it satisfies the nocturnal creature, and he crosses his arms. “Again. Repeat it until I say so.”

No matter how the blue-eyed male doesn’t like taking orders, he doesn’t argue, and slash after slash, he continues this movement.

Later, Shiki worked on improving his partner’s lower and high guard and stance. It’s still far from perfect and needs to be corrected. However, the vampire is impressed by how Akira is a quick learner and catches up with given instructions.

In this case, he will test the hunter’s skills again sooner than expected. Perhaps he would even let him go through the obstacle course. Who knows?…

But for now, Akira’s training continues.

After Iori carefully lowers the supposed-to-be Kyo, he growls without removing his gaze from his opponent. "The hell with you!… Kyo is mine!" Lastly, he stands up and turns on his saber blade.

When the redhead turns his head towards Shingo, he orders, "Stay out of this, got it?"

Yet, the younger brunette objects, "But we may defeat him easier if we team up, Yagami-san."

"I said, DO NOT INTERFERE! Just keep Kyo safe, you fucking idiot!" Iori briefly retorts. Finally, he rushes at his new opponent while Shingo only silently stares.

Meanwhile, the dark soldier places their hand on the helmet’s side and speaks up. “Dad, can you hear me? These two guys refuse to cooperate. What should I?-”

Suddenly, this person dodges Yagami’s attack.

“Is everything alright?” Kurama’s voice asks while the black soldier blocks the upper slash.

“I’m… Yeah. It’s just… All I need is to defeat these two types. So, wait for me, Dad… Over.” The mysterious person replies while evading and counter-attacking each Iori’s strike.

For sure, such an arrogant attitude only boils the redhead’s rage, and he uses more heavy slashing.

However, he notices the dark Imperial troop’s movement is as agile and graceful yet deadly as the original’s.

There are moments when Yagami doubts if it’s brainwashed Kyo.

After all, this soldier aims not to kill his opponent but to knock him out or injure him.

Suddenly, Iori widens his eyes as he blocks the enemy’s lower cut. Even while their blade clashes, his heartbeat becomes rapid and loud.

More so, he cannot read what kind of face his opponent has behind the platinum helmet with intimidating, sharp fangs. All he can see is the colorful sparkles reflecting on the metal mask.

When the black soldier lowers his blade, Iori uses his chance and aims at the open torso.

Unfortunately, his strike is blocked.

“Give up. You have no chance against me. Besides, you are just a waste of my and Dad’s time.” This troop calmly addresses him as he picks up the laser gun and points it against Iori’s forehead.

However, the redhead only lowers his head. “We’ll see about that.”

When he drops his saber blade, he reveals his bare fangs and picks up the pistol. “Eat this!”

Suddenly, as the metal helmet and body armor explode and shatter into pieces, the soldier screams in a too-high-pitched voice for a guy.

For now, Iori only observes how his opponent hits the ground.

“It… it hurts!” The soldier speaks up in a pitiful, feminine voice while shakily covering their face with the palm.

The first thing Yagami notices is that this wobbling person has slightly longer hair than Kyo, a rather curvy, slim figure, wearing a torn in several places body suit.

Lastly, Iori freezes in the same spot and remains speechless when the mysterious person removes their palm from their face. “The fuck is this?”

Apparently, it’s a female Kyo clone. When she wipes the dripping blood from her forehead and lifts her head, she adds. “You won’t get away with this.”

Yagami only cracks a smile as he approaches the clone. “This is where you are wrong, bitch.”

When he places his palm on the brunette’s shoulder, he chuckles. A second later, he punches her stomach. “Know your place, you filthy trash!”

While the poor replica covers her stomach and shakily breathes, she refuses to cry and show weakness in front of this cruel man. For now, she only painfully stares at the redhead.

Yet, Iori shows no mercy. After he grabs the female clone by her throat, he lifts her. “Look at you. You’re disgusting and shouldn’t be born at all. It’s all your fault. I don’t care if you are a woman. You’ll die like the rest of your kind!”

Meanwhile, Shingo only observes in terror how his partner is about to take another life while hugging the pale, unconscious Kusanagi.

“I don’t want this… No, I don’t want to see anyone dying on me. Not anymore.” The brunette soldier thinks to himself, as he cannot remove his eyes from the struggling clone who desperately clings to her life. In the end, he closes his eyes and turns his head away.

In the meantime, the female replica holds onto Iori’s wrists while her throat is under pressure. She's aware that her death may be near. Despite that, she says in a weak voice. “Because… because of you… I’ll upset Dad… Dad… Dad will be sad… I… I… won’t forgive you!”

When Iori notices that this clone doesn’t have a metal plate on her forehead like other replicas, he shakes his head and grins. “You should be thankful to me. At least you know when you die.” And thus, he activates his saber blade. “Rot in hell!”

Suddenly, the laser bullet closely flies to his face, and he freezes in the same spot. As he drops the struggling brunette, he hears a voice behind him. “Enough! I will not stand this any longer, Yagami-san!”

As the ferocious redhead approaches him, Yabuki adds while grinding his teeth. “Too many innocent people died in vain death… and all because of you and your blind rage! I can bet my life that Kusanagi-san would also hate you now! Wake up. YOU BECOME A MONSTER, YAGAMI-SAN!”

It was the last drop of Iori’s patience. Now, he grabs Shingo by his uniform and brings him closely. “What did you just say to me? Repeat it one more time, you little dipshit!”

Shingo only replies while having nothing to lose. “Do it. I’m not afraid of you. I know that you just shake off my corpse. Then, you gonna murder these two and aimlessly go after another victim until you’ll get killed by another bloodthirsty killer like you.”

“What are you talking about? It’s Kyo, and he is going with me.” Iori briefly backfires.

Meanwhile, the female clone only sits on her knees and hugs herself while regaining breath. “Leave Nii-sama alone, you freak!”

Yet, she refuses to give up and weakly approaches them.

After Iori turns his head and glares at this replica, he immediately turns back upon hearing the pale brunette groaning.

In the end, the supposed-to-be Kusanagi’s heir shakily opens his eyes.

Yet, both Resistance Force soldiers are in deep disbelief after noticing how Kyo’s eyes glow in crimson color.

“Nii-sama!” the wounded brunette addresses him while making her way through to hug her sibling.

“Everything gonna be alright, Nii-sama. Soon we’ll see Dad and the three of us will live happily forever and after.” She continues comforting the other clone, who isn’t aware of his surroundings or understands anything.

Meanwhile, Iori is still in denial. “The hell? Who is that freak? Why he is not Kyo? Did I come all the way here just to see another trash?” As he clenches his hands into fists, he lowers his head.

Fortunately, this time Shingo notices his partner’s actions. And thus, before Yagami raises his blade, he sends a harsh slap across his face.

For now, he calmly adds. “Please, don’t, Yagami-san. We’re going to report about it to the Headquarters. What if they may help you? No, to help us find Kusanagi-san’s whereabouts. Believe it or not, but I, like everyone else, want to save Kusanagi-san and see him again.”

Certainly, it was a good wake-up call for Iori, who is still shocked. Soon enough, he returns to his senses. Yet, he only turns around and keeps his hands in his pants pockets. “Do as you wish… But it’s your fault if they will choke you in your dreams.”

Lastly, Shingo extends his hand to these clones. “I know nothing about you. However, all I know is that you want to live as much as anyone else. And that is enough for me.”

Yet, the female clone hits his hand and backfires. “Stay away! I won’t let you hurt Nii-sama! Just you wait until dad shows up! He’ll punish you for bullying us!”

Meanwhile, Iori rolls his eyes and face-palms. “This ain’t going anywhere, you fucking idiot. Why do I have to do everything by myself?”

Poor Yabuki is confused about what to do. He even keeps his palms away from these replicas. “Um… well, I. I mean, we won’t hurt you. All we want is to help you. I… I promise that guys in the Resistance will treat you well. And we are also looking for your dad. So, we are the Good Guys, I guess...”

“I warn you. Back off before I punch you!” This artificial creature replies while giving a fierce, protective gaze.

Suddenly, Yagami makes his way and parts the clones. “You’re so annoying, you stupid woman!”

When he pushes the resisting brunette to lie on her stomach, he holds her wrists behind her back.

For now, he turns his head to Shingo and orders. “Give me your jacket.”

Meanwhile, this replica continues to struggle and gives an indignant look. “Let me go, you ugly bastard! Get off me! Or else you gonna regret it.”

Yet, Shingo doubts his partner. “Yagami-san, do you really need to do this? She clearly doesn’t like this.”

“No shit, huh? And you were happy when she attacked us? Just hurry up, and do it.” Iori replies while ignoring the struggling clone’s threats.

In the end, Yabuki sighs and follows the command. “I’m sorry. So, please, don’t get mad at me because I have no other choice. All I want is to help you two.”

When he hands his jacket to the redhead, Iori uses it as a rope and ties the replica’s hand. After he throws the brunette over his shoulder like a sack of potatoes, this look-alike demands. “Don’t you dare? Do not think of doing it! No… Put me down! I said, put me down and untie me!”

However, Iori remains unaffected by such indignant demands when she kicks him back. For now, he only rolls his eyes, checking that the brunette doesn’t fall. “Say what you want, but you’re going with us. Then you can tell us about your father from all your heart’s content.” After he walks, he prompts Shingo to take the other clone with him and leave this place.

On their way, Yabuki contacts the Headquarters and tells them about the underground laboratory, cloning, and that they are not coming back alone.

Some time passes. Somewhere in the vast of the galaxy. While Iori chills in the pilot seat, he comments. “It’s unusually peaceful here. Did that stupid clone finally snap out?”

Instead of saying anything, Shingo remains silent without interfering. After all, his presence will be ignored again.

After Iori turns to see what is happening in the backseat, he sees how a male replica of Kyo is dozing while the restrained brunette sits back and turns her head away.

“Not only you took the wrong spaceship, but you also heading the wrong direction. You know, it’s only the matter of time when dad will find you. So, I’m not afraid of you and I’ll stay strong for him.” She replies while lowering her gaze and refusing to face the redhead.

Yagami only cracks a smile. “Do you still believe in that? Whatever suits you. But soon you’ll speak differently when you realize that you were used by him to get his job done.”

As the brunette faces him, her eyes burn with determination. “You’re wrong! Unlike you, dad is a very kind and strong person. I know that he’ll come and when I’ll show him that Nii-sama is with me, I’ll make him happy. Then, I’ll finally become dad’s bride and I could show him how much I adore him. So, just you wait and see!”

After Yagami face-palms, he murmurs. “Sure you will… Just what the hell are these sickos up to? And why do they need Kyo?”

For now, he understands that if he wants to get actual information about his former partner; he has to befriend this artificial creature before finishing her.

When Iori brushes the hair from his face, he addresses the female clone. “Listen up. You’re not going to see him soon. However, once you’re recovered, we’ll bring you and your precious brother to your father. Any problems with that?”

The brunette only makes big eyes and dumbfounded stares. “What do you mean?”. After a momentary pause, the artificial creature’s eyes sparkle with excitement. “Oh… I see! But don’t you think that you’ll make me like you more, mister. You’re just slightly better than your friend. So, don’t set your hopes high, got it?”

In the end, the redhead returns to his seat and wonders. “If any of these clones are as intelligent as a child, what shady works or services they are trained for? After all, they cannot be just biological weapons.”

But for now, Yagami rests his head behind his hands and closes his eyes.

Some time passes, and the blue-eyed assassin wakes up. However, something is off. Akira feels so warm and has plenty of space to move around.

After he opens his eyes and sits, he notices he is tucked under the blanket.

Was he asleep? And for how long? Or so Akira wonders.

When he looks around, he notices that the room is tidy. More importantly, a certain swordsman is missing. But he also notices a katana resting close to his in the corner.

That is enough to convince him that Shiki is not far away. Nevertheless, the silver-haired man is getting anxious, because where is his partner?

Either way, it’s pointless to worry or overthink too hard. This is what Akira decides as he gets up and heads to the bathroom.

Speaking of the devil, just as he is about to open the door, his instincts act quickly, and he avoids the door.

Firstly, he notices the singly dripping droplets from Shiki’s still-wet ebony locks. After Akira lifts his confused gaze until his blue eyes meet the crimson ones, he fixates on them while stepping back.

A second later, he closes his eyes and exhales. Just before leaving, he addresses his partner while keeping his face calm. “I’ll check how your wound is doing once I return.” Lastly, when the silver-haired man closes the bathroom door behind him, he leans against it and places a palm on his chest.

He doesn’t understand the burst of warmth inside his heart after seeing the red-eyed swordsman is alright and not hunting for revenge. But for now, Akira takes a shower, hoping it will brush away irrational emotions, as he refers to them.

A half-hour passes by. After the silver-haired man leaves the bathroom, he does his best to keep his poker face. Unfortunately, Shiki’s inquisitive gaze following him only makes it difficult for Akira.

After Akira picks a first aid kit from the night drawer, he sits on the bedside next to Shiki. Surprisingly, the dark-haired man isn’t resisting and allows his partner to lift his t-shirt and expose his chest.

Apparently, the bandage is missing. On the other hand, the sewn wound isn’t bleeding nor festering, and that relieves the blue-eyed assassin.

When he sprays the disinfectant on the injury area, he asks, “Why did you do this?”

Meanwhile, Shiki raises an eyebrow.

“Why do you have to be reckless?” The silver-haired man scolds while he covers the wound with the clean bandage. After he lowers his head, he adds, “…If I knew, I wouldn’t have challenged you.”

After a long pause, Shiki breaks the silence with a simple answer. “It’s what you wanted.”

Such an answer only makes the silver-haired man’s chest sore, and he bites his lower lip.

Suddenly, Akira grabs his partner’s t-shirt and brings him closer. “Would you jump from the rooftop if I did so? You may have died…” When he lifts his head and stares at Shiki, his eyes burn with rage. “I won’t forgive anyone who did this! Be it That Man, devil or god - I don’t care who! If I find that bastard, I’ll make him pay and murder him in cold blood!”

Finally, the blue-eyed male declares, “Then, I’ll remind you until your stupid head will understand that no one is allowed to interfere with us. Nor that anyone can even scratch you. You and your life belong to me!” Lastly, he widens his blue eyes and impatiently waits for his partner’s reaction.

After such a confession, Shiki remains speechless for a few moments. When he narrows his gaze and smirks, he replies, “Hmph. Is that so?”

Suddenly, Shiki pushes him down on the bed and restrains his wrists. After he climbs on top of the silver-haired assassin, he adds in a nearly purring voice, “However, you still lack discipline.”

As soon as Akira notices his partner’s suggestive look on his face and leans closer to him, he realizes that is screwed. While the warmth rushes to his cheeks, his heart beats loudly. Despite his position, he won’t allow this man to do as he wishes.

After the silver-haired man closes his eyes, he shakes off at least one hand. Suddenly, he covers Shiki’s face with it and does not let him get any closer while backfiring. “And you are still under my care, you fool! First, recover. Then, you can do as you wish.”

Meanwhile, the red-eyed swordsman is kept away like a feline who cannot reach the desired treat no matter how hard he tries. A few moments later, he grabs the wrist of the same arm that resists him and moves it aside.

After studying his partner’s questioning face, he climbs off Akira and sits on the bed's edge. Lastly, without looking back, he orders, “Get up. We are leaving.”

While the silver-haired male is dumbfounded and stares at Shiki, he half sits and replies, “Huh?”

“Unless you want to stay for longer,” Shiki suggests when he stands up and picks up his long coat and sword. After he attaches his blade, he turns his head and gives a demanding gaze. “What are you doing? You’re going with me.”

In the end, Akira remains silent, and after getting up, he also looks for his coat and weapon. He dislikes it when someone orders him around. On the other hand, he has planned to change the scenery soon.

Besides, it might lower their chance to encounter bounty hunters or other unwanted types. More importantly, it may let Akira protect his partner from threats.

“As if I’ll let him fight in his current state,” the silver-haired man thinks to himself as he fixes his coat and follows Shiki.

Some time passes. So far, their trip has been peaceful. However, after reaching the abandoned streets of the new location, Akira immediately stops walking and looks around.

The sound of rustling chains and metal alerts him, while his partner is apparently unbothered.

Suddenly, the silver-haired male widens his eyes as a group of feral crackheads rush at him and Shiki.

Without wasting time, he draws his blade and gracefully slashes his opponents with a few strikes.

As the bloody fountain splashes, the corpses hit the cold ground. Lastly, Akira wipes the dark crimson liquid from his sword and drops the stained tissue on his victim’s body.

For sure, that is nothing more than a waste of time. Or so the blue-eyed assassin muses as he puts the clean blade away.

Meanwhile, Shiki only silently observes without interfering. After all, it was a brief but amusing view for him.

But for now, the preserved blue-eyed killer’s growling stomach breaks the silence.

For sure, there cannot be a worse time than now. “Don’t say anything…” Akira thinks while he closes his eyes and frowns.

Unfortunately for him, his partner gives him a smug look. “Just wait for a bit longer and we should arrive soon.”

Instead of saying anything, the irritated blue-eyed male lifts his head and increases his speed. After he turns his head, he indignantly gazes at the dark-haired man, as if prompting something.

While Shiki continues getting entertained by his partner’s reaction, he exhales and fixes his hair.

Another hour passes. Finally, these travelers arrive at another more lively and civilized part of the city. Fortunately for them, there are even small shops close to it. Before settling in the new place, Akira insists they should get food and water supplies along with the first aid kit.

Surprisingly, the dark-haired man doesn’t mind and agrees. On the other hand, such unusual behavior slowly makes Akira anxious.

But for now, he brushes his suspicions aside and tries not to think too hard.

After a while, the couple reach the doorstep of the hotel. Perhaps it can be a decent place to rest for a few days, or at least until Shiki’s scar heals, and it will be safe to remove the suture.

Even if Shiki may try to move, he can be easily restrained or taken down until he calms down. Akira contemplates this as he fixes his coat’s collar and the backpack’s belts. Lastly, he pushes the door open.

When studying the traditional Western-style interior, which was commonly found in the highest quality hotels before the war, and the atmosphere alone, it’s clear that cheap criminals or average citizens cannot afford even to stand in such a place.

Certainly, it dawns on Akira that they walked into the wrong place. For now, he slightly shrugs and addresses the dark-haired man, “We should leave. There is no way we’ll be able to stay here without getting questioned.”

Shiki only closes his eyes and replies, “Nonsense. You worry too much.”

The silver-haired male only watches as his arrogant counterpart walks toward the receptionist’s table. “Don’t act like I haven’t warned you, you idiot,” he murmurs.

Meanwhile, when the receptionist notices that both sketchy incomers openly carry dangerous weapons, he fears for his life. It doesn’t help that one of them freely approaches him as if it’s his home.

Therefore, the trembling man remains polite and holds his hands, hoping it will drive away these strangers. “I’m terribly sorry to inform you, sir. Unfortunately, we do not have vacant rooms.” Yet, his warning is useless.

Suddenly, the red-eyed swordsman slams his hand on the counter and stares at the receptionist.

Even the passing personnel freeze in the same spot and turn their head toward the direction of the sudden noise. However, as quickly as it catches the staff’s attention, their curiosity disappears, and they continue their work.

Unfortunately, the receptionist is left alone to deal with violent guests. “Sir, I must ask you to leave. If you resist, I may also have no other choice than to call security or even the police,” the poor worker adds. While forcing himself to smile, the receptionist’s hand moves under the counter. Yet, he hesitates to press the alarm button out of fear.

After Shiki retrieves something from his pants pocket, he tosses it on the counter. “How much do you want?”

The scarred man’s heart suddenly drops to his heels as he stares at the thick pile of bills. He cannot comprehend what happened and how he is still alive.

Shiki fixates his demanding crimson eyes on the receptionist like a large feline looking down on a lowly insect. “Is that enough for you?” Meanwhile, the receptionist manages to nod.

“I won’t repeat myself twice. Give us the key to our room,” the dark-haired man threatens.

In the meantime, Akira only facepalms. “You fool… was that really necessary?”

Yet, Shiki remains unhinged and snatches the keys to their new room from the worker’s hand. Lastly, he turns toward the blue-eyed male.

As Akira rolls his eyes, he walks toward the counter and nags at the delighted swordsman. “You should be glad that we’re not kicked out yet.”

“You have a place to stay now. So, don’t complain,” the dark-haired man backfires.

In the end, Akira only sighs, and before leaving the reception room, he nods and silently apologizes for Shiki’s behavior. Besides, it would be wiser because it may reduce their chance of getting black-listed and having new enemies hunting them.

When they enter their room, Akira removes the backpack from his shoulders, throws it on the double-sized bed, and hangs his long coat on the hanger close to his partner’s.

After he sits next to Shiki on the bed, he opens the backpack and passes him a Solid. “Here.”

Yet, his partner crosses his arms and declines. “I don’t need it. So, you have it first.”

Akira only argues, “I will take it, but you need it more than I do. Why do you think I got more food this time? Who knows when the last time you’ve eaten something was… and it may help you to recover faster.”

In the end, the ebony-haired swordsman takes the offered bar from the same hand that treated his wound and removes the wrapping paper.

Seeing how this man takes from his hand reminds him of a proud feline who finally trusts him. He is also secretly relieved and glad that Shiki accepts his help.

However, Akira instantly picks up another Solid and unwraps it. As he lowers his head and eagerly munches on the omurice flavored bar, he hopes to hide his face before Shiki gets any weird ideas and teases him. And thus, Solids disappear one after another while the silver-haired man repeatedly checks that his partner is eating and not just sitting and waiting.

Several hours pass. It’s already past midnight, and both swordsmen are peacefully resting.

Of course, before calling it a day and going to bed, Akira stubbornly refuses to sleep on the same bed as Shiki.

One of his main reasons was that he might move during his sleep and accidentally open his partner’s scar, and how he prefers to sleep on the floor. Unfortunately, the dark-haired swordsman doesn’t buy into this.

When Akira picks the bedside closer to the window, he turns away and curls into a ball, while Shiki behaves like an actual cat and takes more than half of the bed.

But for now, the silver-haired man silently groans and lazily opens his eyes as he feels someone’s body pressing against his back and an arm thrown over him.

Moreover, someone’s hair is tickling his neck. Yet, he refuses to move and see if Shiki is doing this on purpose to annoy him or if it’s only an involuntary movement during his sleep.

If his partner is awake, the silver-haired man should stay still and not fall for his provocation. Firstly, he is too tired to deal with Shiki’s shenanigans. Secondly, his partner may ignore his wound and attempt to do something reckless… or so Akira convinces himself while he lies on his side.

As soon as he feels how the dark-haired man tightens his hug, he murmurs, “What are you-?” Despite that, he doesn’t receive a response, apart from Shiki weakly exhaling before returning to silence.

“So, is he asleep? If he doesn’t try anything funny, it should be fine, I guess,” Akira ponders while he continues being embraced by the dark-haired man.

As Akira sighs, he realizes that the more time he spends with this man, the more he doesn’t understand him or his recent behavior.

Although, it’s fine by him. If Shiki is by his side and not doing anything reckless, that is alright, the silver-haired man thinks to himself as he slowly closes his eyes and eventually falls asleep.

A few days pass by. Finally, today is a big day. After the daily checkup on Shiki’s wound, Akira decides it’s finally safe to remove the suture.

While he sits on the bedside, he picks up the disinfectant spray, scalpel, and medical tweezers and prepares for the incoming procedure. This time, he doesn’t restrain the dark-haired man. Besides, Shiki voluntarily partially lies down while observing the blue-eyed male.

Fortunately, compared to suturing an injury, this is not that intense of a procedure. Yet, it should not be taken lightheartedly, especially because one wrong movement can lead to severe damage or cause infection.

And thus, while keeping this in mind, Akira lifts his partner’s t-shirt and leans closer to him. “Try not to move too much, got it?”

Yet, as the dark-haired man fixates his gaze on Akira, he keeps a poker face and slowly blinks like a feline.

Firstly, the blue-eyed male sprays the disinfectant on the injury and waits until it dries before moving to the next step.

A couple of minutes pass. Then, Akira takes the tweezers into his non-dominant hand and the small scalpel into his dominant one. Before starting the procedure, the silver-haired male stares at his partner. “You might feel uncomfortable for a bit.”

When the blue-eyed assassin carefully picks the suture close to the knot, he cuts it. Soon he cuts another thread, and while he holds on to the knot, he removes the first stitch.

Another cut stitch, another one taken from the injury. The silver-haired man works with precision while checking how Shiki is doing.

Lastly, when Akira removes the last thread, he again sprays the disinfectant and cleans the healed wound. “Here. It’s finally over.”

However, just when the blue-eyed assassin is about to stand and tidy the mess, a pair of arms wrap around him. While one rests on his waist, another rests on his shoulder.

A second later, Akira shakily closes his eyes and gasps at the sensation of his partner’s tongue against his sensitive, exposed neck. “What are you…?” he inquires in his sweet, shivery voice while his t-shirt’s lower zipper is opening.

Hell, he can feel how the dark-haired man’s hand slides under his open t-shirt and rubs his waist.

Instead of letting Shiki toy with him, Akira places his palm on the same one that is on his shoulder and turns back to face him. “Not now, you fool…”

Perhaps his partner wants to sound strict, but with such alluring expressions on his face, he begs to be eaten right here, right now. Akira seems to be yearning for his touch as well. It is evident that, from his honest reactions, he has been holding back during this whole time, the red-eyed swordsman thinks to himself.

However, Akira lowers the held hand and escapes from his grasp. Finally, he stands up. “Enough! Sharp blades are lying around. What if you get hurt?” he groans, while hiding his still blushing face and tidying up after the recent procedure.

After a short pause, the silver-haired man turns around and explains in a softer tone, “I just need to run to the shop and get some food. Then, tonight you’ll learn what happens if you mess with me.” When he grabs his long coat, he rushes through the door without lowering the zipper of his t-shirt or wearing his long leather gloves.

Meanwhile, Shiki lowers his head and delightfully smiles. As he tilts his head and fixes his hair, he looks forward to whatever his partner has planned.

Somewhere in the middle of the ruins of Toshima. For a long time, it’s been nothing more than a ghost city where only one or two stray animals or rodents may pass by or lurk in the darker corner.

A place where no sane human wanders. At least not the ones who fear to tread too far and never to be found alive.

Even the everlasting gray clouds hide the sun, moon, and stars, making this wasteland gloomier and hopeless. As if this city is a liminal space, an endless labyrinth with no escape… Or rather - netherworld on the Earth.

However, not today. Not at the moment.

Right now, the sound of a clashing blade echoes deep inside the ruins of former Toshima. It’s another encounter between a certain two skilled swordsmen, but for them, it’s as thrilling as their first match.

While the silver-haired assassin keeps blocking his opponent’s attack after attack, he can tell that something is off.

Despite that, there is no spare second to deeply analyze, but he feels that Shiki is slower and rustier than usual.

It is not important why he does that. Be it as a taunt or provocation or merely to be an annoying prick. For now, the explanation can wait until one of them will fall. Or so Akira convinces himself while counter-attacking another strike.

However, aside from this detail, something else catches Akira’s eye. The way how the red-eyed man’s face twitches in pain and slightly shrugs upon more sudden movement, doesn’t leave him unaffected.

Despite Akira’s secret concern, he continues focusing on their fight and waits until his opponent leaves an easy opening spot.

Lastly, without having anything to lose, Shiki charges at him.

Fortunately, at the last second, Akira dodges the attack and strikes the other swordsman’s back with the handle of his sword. And thus, with a short grunt, Shiki harshly hits the cold ground.

In the end, the heavy clouds withdraw like a curtain, and the platinum moonlight illuminates the victor of a hard-fought battle.

While Akira stands still and keeps his poker face, he points the tip of his sword at his opponent’s throat, who lies on his back and stares back.

Finally, after such a long time, the same man who humiliated him by sparing his life has fallen. The same man, who let him live because it was pointless to taint his blade with weakling’s blood, now lies under his foot and at his mercy.

However, is it worth it? Why, instead of feeling excited and satisfied, the silver-haired man feels disappointed, empty, and probably upset?

As Akira lowers his head, he whispers “It’s not what I wanted…”.

Suddenly, the blue-eyed killer spits out the words “Why are you like this!”.

After a short pause, he continues scolding “Why even now do you look down on me? You even held back and went easy on me.”.

When he shakily exhales, he clenches his other hand into a fist “Why?… And look at you now, you will die.”. Lastly, he brings closely the tip of the blade until it gently touches Shiki’s neck.

A minute passes. The silver-haired swordsman takes the sword into both hands and lifts the tip of it. When Akira lowers his shoulders, he closes his blue eyes before planning to land a fatal hit.

Suddenly, the blade sinks deep into the ground.

When Akira opens his eyes, he releases the sword and shakily clenches his hands into fists.

Even on the verge of death, Shiki only studied him all this time. Perhaps, he wasn’t aware that his partner would purposely miss his target but already resigned his fate.

For sure, the blue-eyed assassin cannot understand such behavior, and it makes him anxious, frustrated, and annoyed.

After Akira sits on top of Shiki, he grasps the handle of his sunken sword and addresses him “What is wrong with you? That is just selfish to throw away your life like this and give up… You stupid fool…”.

However, when he feels how the inner side of his thigh warms up, he widens his eyes “The hell?”.

When Akira lifts his partner’s black t-shirt, he shakily remarks on the soaked-in bright red clothing attached to the side of his waist “Wait… I didn’t cut you there. I didn’t even aim there. How did you even?…Why haven't you tell this earlier?!… Shit …Fuck!”.

Meanwhile, the dark-haired man only turned his head and closed his eyes “Hmph.”.

“That’s all you have to say?!” Or so the blue-eyed man speaks up at the top of his lungs. Despite wanting to slap his partner for his reckless behavior, he deeply exhales and adds “How did you expect me to finish you off when you weren’t giving your best?”.

Yet, Shiki replies “Then, stop whining and leave if that bothers you so much.”.

Instead of arguing any further, Akira climbs off his partner, and after taking a hand and placing his arm on his shoulder, he helps him to stand up “Let’s go. If we are lucky, we may find a med kit, and where we can stay.”.

“Idiot…” Or so the red-eyed man comments.

While Akira supports him, he instantly backfires “I wonder who is the bigger one.”. And with these words, the silver-haired has to make sure that both of them safely leave the once-familiar city and check on his partner.

Some time passes. And after wandering around, this couple finds an old, cheap inn. More importantly, the luck is on their side.

According to the inn owner, if they have arrived even a minute later, they would have searched for another place to stay.

Usually, there is no issue for Akira to deal with such petite problems as no vacant rooms by drawing his blade and threatening the staff.

However, this time, it may have caused more naught than use. More so, he is not alone, and who knows if Shiki hides more wounds. So, there would be nothing to gain of.

Meanwhile, after noticing the bleeding swordsman, the shocked receptionist immediately offered to call the ambulance. Unfortunately for this person, their offer is declined, and the silver-haired man demands a room key and to leave all available first aid kits in their room.

And thus, without any second thought, the receptionist and other staff obeyed this order.

Of course, Shiki won't be himself without cracking a smile at how despite Akira's serious look, he reminded him of nothing more than a protective puppy with a lowered tail and ears.

After the blue-eyed assassin looks at him, he thinks to himself while feeling slightly relieved that if this idiot can act like a smug bastard, Shiki’s life is not in grave danger as he feared.

Lastly, when they reach their room, Akira asks the staff not to interface. And thus, upon all the workers bow and leave, this couple enters the room.

As Akira locks the door behind him, he carries Shiki into the bed and lays him down.

“It wouldn’t hurt if you help me out a bit.” Or so the silver-haired man comments as he tries to remove his partner’s long coat.

It’s impressive how Shiki behaves like a cooperative patient for once and doesn’t resist. Perhaps he is in great pain that he can silently endure any treatment. But who could have done it? Either way, all questions can wait until that reckless fool recovers. Or so Akira assumes after getting rid of this piece of clothing.

Just when he is about to lift the dark-haired man’s t-shirt, his wrist is grabbed, and he is stopped by Shiki’s voice “Leave it. You are just wasting your time.”

As Akira raises an eyebrow, he listens further “I can take care of it on my own.”

“I can see how well you managed. Listen, I won’t leave you no matter how hard you try to get rid of me. Not until you are fully recovered.” Or so the blue-eyed assassin confesses.

After a short pause, Shiki closes his eyes and exhales “...Do as you wish.”.

For a good moment, Akira remains speechless at the red-eyed swordsman's attitude, but instead of scolding him, he stands up and closes his eyes “Then, make sure that I’ll find you undressed when I return.”.

Lastly, the silver-haired man looks at Shiki before heading to the bathroom.

Several minutes pass by. Soon enough, the silver-haired man leaves the bathroom carrying a basin with fresh water and a small towel.

However, when he notices his shirtless partner sitting on the bed and his eyes follow him, he closes his eyes and sighs.

On the other hand, Shiki is still here and didn't leave. So, that’s already something new. More so, even if he only removed his t-shirt and long leather gloves, knowing him, it's quite an effort.

Therefore, Akira cannot force himself to be mad that the dark-haired man only half accomplished the given instructions.

Besides, it’s no good to feel agitated when he should be focusing on more important things. Or so the silver-haired man convinces himself while he puts down the basin next to the bed and removes his long black coat and gloves.

“It would be better if you lie down. Because you would make things easier for yourself and me.” Akira comments when he brings the first aid kit from the top of the night drawer on the bed.

Lastly, when he kneels, he opens the medkit and begins his patient’s treatment.

At first, he carefully removes the poorly attached bloody clothing attached by the plaster on the waist side. Who knows how long Shiki has used it to cover his wound? But one thing is for sure - it got stuck, and removing it by force will cause massive bleeding.

After Akira takes the spray disinfectant, he warns the red-eyed man “It may sting a bit. So, don’t try to kick me off now ‘cos we both gonna end up in a nasty mess.”.

“Hmph. Just get down to the business.” Shiki briefly replies.

As the blue-eyed assassin focuses on spraying the disinfectant on the clotted tissue, he sighs.

Finally, he disposes of the stained red clothing and examines his partner’s wound.

One thing is killing people in cold blood and being followed by death. At this point, taking one’s life and cutting it into pieces is nothing more than a gray, boring routine.

However, seeing such a deep cut on his partner’s body is something hard and painful for him. It even makes a ruthless killing machine like Akira become pale and shiver.

More importantly, if someone had cut Shiki deeper until it may reach his internal organs, Akira may only encounter his cold corpse covered in red and revealed intestines, staring at him with lifeless, dimmed eyes. For sure, such a mental image alone makes the silver-haired man have shortness of breath and freeze in the same spot.

Although, he immediately snaps himself to reality, and after he grabs a wet towel, he drains it. Just before he brings it to injury, he asks “Do you need anything to bite into? And, no, you’re not biting into yourself. You already have enough injuries to treat.”.

Meanwhile, Shiki only turns his head away without saying anything.

By far, as Akira wipes around the injured area, he has no issues. However, when the towel touches the edge of the cut, his partner’s sudden movement, he nearly startles.

“Please, endure for longer. I need to clean it well before taking care of it.” Or so he comforts the dark-haired man while focusing on the current task.

After he is done with cleaning, he puts the bloody towel into the water, which soon dyes in the same crimson color.

Without wasting time, he picks the sterile cotton and carefully dries the wound and its area by gently tapping.

However, the most challenging part is still ahead. Therefore before moving to the next stage, no matter how Akira wants to avoid it, he has to restrain Shiki.

Meanwhile, the red-eyed swordsman can see how his partner is too tense and nervous. It can’t be helped. He has to help loosen the tension in the best way he knows.

When Akira places his hand on his partner’s belt, he hears a small teasing in a suggestive tone “So, this is what you wanted?~ How impatient of you.”.

Of course, hearing such an unexpected remark widens his blue eyes and almost makes his cheeks warm up. Nevertheless, he has to remind someone of their position and place.

“Keep the thoughts of your lower brain to yourself.” Or so the silver-haired man backfires as he unbuckles the belt and removes it. Lastly, as he pins Shiki’s wrists with one hand and with another one tying him to the bed frame, he declares “You are my patient and you should focus on saving your strength now.”.

Meanwhile, it’s entertaining to observe how Akira’s reactions. More so, after such remark, his shoulders are less stiff while he prepares for the next procedure.

After Akira sits, he picks up the spray disinfectant and rustling paper package from the med kit. As he rolls out the paper, he picks up the bend surgical needle, and with one sudden move, he inserts the thread through the needle's eye.

“It might hurt a bit. So, don’t tell me that I didn’t warn you.” Or so the blue-eyed assassin reminds before spraying the disinfectant on the wound area.

Finally, when he takes a deep breath, he pierces the edge of the wound and begins to suture it. A tiny stitch after a stitch by using a 90-degree angle, and the open injury slowly narrows.

Even so, from time to time, Akira checks on his partner if he is okay. After all, it’s his first time sewing a living person’s flesh and not the practice dummy’s or dead body. And from what he learned, he needs speed and precision so that the scar would heal nicely without leaving an ugly mark.

More important, he had to learn to do it because he knew that Shiki may put his life at risk for no good reason. And it seems today he has to use his learned skills.

Yet, Akira is surprised how aside from hearing slightly shivery respiratory and noticing that narrowed gaze, his partner is doing well and not resisting at all.

Some time passes. Finally, he sews the end of the wound and carefully ties a knot a few times before cutting the thread.

“There. It’s finally over. I just need to cover it.” Or so the silver-haired man adds in a soft tone as he sprays the disinfectant on the sewn wound and dries it by gently tapping the cotton pad.

After he covers the surgical scar with the snow-white clothing, he briefly wonders whether he should use the medical bandage or rely on the plaster.

On the other hand, Shiki is not that reckless idiot to tear it apart immediately after he gets released. Perhaps the medical plaster should do for tonight. Or so Akira hopes while rolling enough plaster.

When he cuts a few short plaster lines and a couple of longer ones, he peels off the cover and firmly attaches them.

Once he tidies up the mess around the bed and closes the first aid kit, he feels it is time to loosen his partner’s restraint.

After Akira sits on the bed, he leans closer to Shiki, who gives him a tired smile and addresses him “Just do not try anything funny. Right now, even one sudden move may open your wounds. So, stay still ‘cos I don’t want to sew it again, got it?”.

“You worry too much.” The dark-haired man replies when his hands are released.

Yet, Akira quickly comments “And who’s fault for that?”. Suddenly, he widens his eyes as the pair of hands placed behind his lower back and pushes him to lie down.

Soon enough, he slightly frowns to hide his bewilderment “What did I tell you earlier?”.

“Just stay quiet for a moment.” Shiki demands as he closes his eyes and wraps his other arm around his partner’s shoulders.

For sure, it’s pointless to argue with him any further. Or Akira thinks to himself as he sighs while avoiding his body touching Shiki’s sewn wound. Lastly, when he closes his eyes, he whispers “You are truly an idiot…”.

In the end, he understands that he fell for this big feline’s trap, and now it’s only a matter of time before he’ll be released and be able to tidy the mess, which might be no different from the war field hospital.

It is already late at night in the Shiki’s mansion, and everyone is resting. Unfortunately, one secretary cannot fall asleep tonight.

Apparently, he gets woken up by a dark-haired man making strange mumbling and growling noises and struggling during his sleep.

Of course, it concerns Akira. At first, he addresses Shiki in a sleepy voice. Yet, he receives no answer aside from the commander trying to say something or curse someone.

In this case, the silver-haired secretary has to see by himself whether the commander got suddenly sick.

After he rolls to the other side, he checks on his partner. It’s the first time for Akira to see something like this happening. From what it looks, Shiki may have a fever.

After the blue-eyed male brushes Shiki’s hair from his forehead, he checks whether he has a temperature or not. Fortunately, it’s a false alert.

Nevertheless, from what it looks, the supreme ruler has a nightmare where he seems to encounter a difficult enemy.

Either way, the silver-haired secretary understands that if he wakes the dark-haired man, he will ruin his rest and make him agitated. And thus, he has to use other measures which don’t disturb Shiki’s sleep and will help him to fight whoever threatens him.

When Akira softens his gaze, he carefully places his palm on his most important person’s cheek. For sure, gently stroking the commander’s cheek shows a significant effect - eventually, it makes Shiki less stiff, and from his facial expressions alone, he starts to calm down.

The blue-eyed man moves his hand toward his partner’s ebony hair and strokes them. Yet, the reserved secretary reminds himself that he should focus on comforting the commander and how it’s not the place and time to admire how pleasantly it feels to touch Shiki’s hair.

Despite that, he cannot help but feel lucky for being able to do it and just admire how it feels like stroking a big feline’s soft fur.

Soon enough, Shiki stops silently growling, and with the last respire, he returns to peaceful slumber. At least for now, he can also rest again. Or so Akira assumes when he lowers his palm.

Suddenly, the secretary gets alerted when he is pulled closely into a tight hug. As Akira widens his eyes and dumbfounded stares, he asks ‘‘Co… Commander?’’. However, he receives no answers aside from weak, barely hearable breathing.

When he looks up, he notices Shiki is asleep, and no force can wake him up soon. Lastly, the military secretary closes his eyes and exhales through his nose.

In the end, he realizes he is trapped in this huge feline’s embrace until he wakes up. Yet, it doesn’t matter anymore if Shiki only pretends to be asleep to use it as a chance to snuggle with his partner or not.

Now, Akira wonders what possibly made Shiki so stressed and scared that he unconsciously reaches out to him for comfort and warmth.

Perhaps it may have something to do with Shiki’s early training days in the military or first missions. Or could it be - it’s about encountering That Man who not only stepped on his pride but also scarred him for a long time? Either way, for now, these demons from the past are driven away. Or so the blue-eyed male hopes so.

A second later, another thought makes him restless, which has been bothering him recently.

That’s right, Shiki won’t live with the sun, and even if spring arrives, he may not be able to greet it. Despite he is feared like a wrathful god, he lives as long as any mortal. Akira understands that and how someday the commander will need a successor to inherit all his conquered empire and fortune.

Of course, before it happens, the blue-eyed secretary may protect and take care of him from a distance. After all, the supreme ruler would have his own private life, and Akira won’t have the right to interface or cause unnecessary drama.

Although, he won’t allow the commander to taint his name because of his affairs with his personal secretary. That’s why, as the right hand of the most powerful man in the country, Akira won’t forgive himself if anything bad happens to Shiki.

Therefore, the military secretary feels he should prioritize his dear commander’s well-being above anything else, including himself.

On the other hand, the thought that the commander may embrace someone else makes Akira anxious and jealous. No matter how much he convinces himself that this is irrational and immature, he doesn’t like these unexplained emotions. Yet, he won’t hesitate to death-sentence anyone who may dare to upset or betray Shiki.

More so, he hates the idea that he will be replaced by some stranger who won’t know anything about Shiki nor will understand him. It simply makes the flawless secretary Akira tremble and short of breath while deep inside, his heart aches.

In the end, he doesn’t want to share the commander with anyone. But for now, Akira is still hesitant about whether he should tell about this little bother to Shiki. When he weighs all pros and cons, he considers trying, but only after work and somewhere where he can speak in private.

It is the beginning of another day in the office, and Shiki can already sense that there is something off about his subordinate’s behavior today.

He can spot how his personal secretary is unusually stressed and seems to concentrate his mind anywhere else aside from work. Even if such change is unnoticeable by the regular person or staff, the military tyrant can spot an obvious difference. But for now, he monitors his subordinate to ensure he doesn’t end up in serious problems.

Unfortunately, throughout the entire day, such unusual behavior remains. That’s why, the dark-haired man is irritated observing this and decides to take matters into his hands.

After he lifts his gaze and notices the clock on the wall, he curves a delightful smile. Just in a few minutes, the afternoon tea break starts. Therefore, his loyal subordinate should show up soon.

Then, Shiki will corner the secretary and get the wanted answers out of him. But for now, all he needs to do is patiently wait.

Finally, the time has come, and the military secretary enters the office while carrying the teapot and the cups on the silver tray.

Meanwhile, Akira can feel the commander’s eyes on him. Such a studying gaze makes him feel as if he did something wrong or trying to see through his mind. Nevertheless, he keeps a straight posture while approaching the supreme ruler.

Even when the secretary begins the daily ritual of serving the tea, he tries to remain calm.

However, when his subordinate avoids facing him, it proves Shiki’s suspicious intuition is correct - something is bothering Akira.

For sure, such a gesture slowly gets on the commander’s nerves, but he continues to study the blue-eyed secretary.

After Akira sits, he lifts his gaze and notices Shiki’s serious face, he asks in a polite yet slightly concerned tone ‘‘Is there anything wrong, sir?’’.

‘‘You are hiding something.’’ The red-eyed man states.

After such a straightforward note, Akira is shocked. Nevertheless, he keeps his poker face ‘‘I beg your pardon, sir. What do you mean by that?’’.

Yet, the military tyrant continues interrogating him ‘‘Does anyone bother you?’’.

In this case, the secretary feels cornered by how Shiki can read him pretty well. Even so, he swallows the saliva and lowers the cup ‘‘Nothing at all. Everything is under control, and no one seems to threaten you, sir.’’.

When Shiki closes his eyes, he comments ‘‘You are lying.’’ after opening them, he continues ‘‘You are a terrible liar, and I clearly see it.’’.

These words make Akira widen his eyes. Yet, after he fixes the collar of his shirt, he replies ‘‘Please, excuse me if I made you to worry. I didn’t want to concern or trouble you with… rather selfish and immature thoughts about the inevitable future. At least not when I’m on duty.’’.

The supreme ruler only raises an eyebrow and asks ‘‘What is it, then?’’.

After a short, awkward pause and seeing that Shiki won’t let him go anywhere until he gets what he wants to know, the blue-eyed male addresses him ‘‘First, I have a personal request for you. Would you hear me out?’’.

However, the commander only closes his eyes. When he opens his eyes, he permits while keeping his serious face ‘‘Hmph. Say it.’’.

When the reserved secretary takes a deep breath and gathers enough courage, he genially confesses while sinking his fingertips into his thighs ‘‘I wanted to discuss something important with you, sir. However, if you don’t mind, in a less formal environment. Perhaps with a couple of cups of wine or whiskey as well. Whichever you prefer, I don’t mind at all. Besides, it may also help you to relax after a long day, sir.’’.

Instead of saying anything, Shiki gives a smug look. Lastly, he removes his subordinate’s cap and ruffles his hair.

Such a caring gesture is the very least response Akira expects. On the other hand, he secretly enjoys it and closes his eyes. Yet, he hasn’t expected such a chill response, but at the same time, he is grateful.

After Shiki withdraws his palm, he puts the cap back and replies ‘‘You should say so earlier.’’. As he delightfully observes how his adorable subordinate fixes the cap while trying to hide his blushing and shy face, he continues ‘‘Fine. Permission is granted. So, relax.’’.

Lastly, Akira stands up and bows ‘‘Y-yes! Thank you, sir…’’.

Meanwhile, the commander is still impressed by how his partner asked him out, even if it is in his own subtle way. After all, knowing his secretary, it’s a rare case when he initiates something that is not work-related.

‘‘Whatever he has planned, it will be interesting.’’ Or so Shiki thinks to himself while enjoying watching Akira lowering his shoulders yet trying to contain his excitement.

Some time passes. It is a calm evening in the lounge room. As expected, the military secretary keeps his word to keep company for the supreme ruler and asks to leave everything to him tonight.

But for now, while Shiki sits in a large armchair, his eyes follow his subordinate. Even every little action made by the blue-eyed male is entertaining.

Meanwhile, all Akira does is hang his uniform jacket on the hanger and head towards the commander’s personal bar. Yet, despite feeling slightly embarrassed at how he is being observed by the curious big feline from his armchair, he rolls up his shirt’s sleeves, picks a few ice cubes from the freezer, and opens the bottle of finest whiskey.

How can such a simple thing as pouring whiskey on ice be even remotely entertaining? Or so Akira wonders when he turns back and notices the commander’s amused as a cat’s face.

After the silver-haired secretary prepares and carries the drinks, he carefully sits on the soft arm pad. Lastly, he handles the glass of whiskey to Shiki while holding his glass.

For now, enjoying the company of his loyal and dear subordinate in private while having a glass of spicy as-fire whiskey with a few ice cubes mixed and relaxing in a comfy armchair in front of a warm, cracking fireplace - What else the commander may need in life? Will any amount of money be able to replace it? Of course, the clear-as-a-day answer - no.

The only missing thing for a perfect evening like this is having his secretary sitting on his lap with thrown arms around his neck and loosened shirt while staring with his loving blue eyes. Although, it might take a while until the silver-haired male would do it.

Either way, it’s still surprising how Akira sits that closely without being asked. Yet, giving a tiny push to his subordinate and reminding him that he shouldn’t be so formal while being in private. Or so the supreme ruler wonders while patiently waiting for his personal secretary to put down his drink.

As the silver-haired man notices Shiki’s demanding gaze, he lowers the glass and asks ‘‘Is there anything wrong, sir? Or should I?-’’.

Suddenly, Akira gasps and closes his eyes as Shiki wraps his arm around his waist and brings him closer.

For now, the red-eyed man is busy loosening his subordinate’s tie and unbuttoning his shirt with the other hand ‘‘Didn’t I tell you to relax when you’re off duties?’’.

When Akira places his hands on his partner’s chest, he closes his eyes and pushes him away ‘‘You shouldn’t just fool around with your subordinate! I beg you to start thinking about your future!’’.

When the secretary opens his big blue eyes and deeply breathes, he sees how Shiki freezes in the same spot and dumbfounded stares at him. Unfortunately, he realizes he made a great mistake.

Despite that, he swallows saliva and confesses from the bottom of his heart in a softer, without hiding his genial concern, tone ‘‘Excuse me for my rudeness, sir. I understand that you may not live forever and how someday you will leave all your possessions and power to a worthy successor.’’.

After he lowers his gaze, he continues in a sensible gloomier voice ‘‘More important, you will have your private life in which I won’t be able to interface… Of course, I will serve all your needs if you still need me. However, I won’t hesitate to punish anyone who would hurt or betray you. I know it’s selfish and immature but…’’.

Lastly, while having nothing to lose, Akira lifts his blue eyes and declares ‘‘I know I have no right to tell you what your heart should want, but all I wish is the best for you, sir. But… I don’t want to share you with anyone or let you fall into the wrong hands!’’.

Certainly, the secretary’s honesty stuns Shiki, and he remains speechless. However, a second later, he regains his cool and gives a satisfied look ‘‘So, this is what’s been on your mind? Hmph. You are truly an idiot…’’.

While his subordinate is dumbfounded and stares at him, the dark-haired man pulls him into a hug and adds ‘‘I’m not interested in wasting time on worthless fools and weaklings. The only person I can trust and rely on is here, with me.’’.

When Shiki gently holds his partner’s chin and lifts his head, he doesn’t remove his eyes from these blue ones.

Suddenly, Akira can feel how his heart skips a beat and the warmth rushing to his cheeks by looking at the mesmerizing crimson eyes. Yet, he listens to the commander’s calming voice ‘‘The only thing that I want is you staying by my side, even after I conquer the world, Akira.’’.

Such a sincere confession surprises the secretary. Despite trying to remain as calm as possible, he feels overwhelmed by the sudden wave of emotions and happiness he doesn’t know how to handle.

However, without a second thought, the silver-haired secretary gently takes the same palm holding his chin into his hands and lands a soft kiss on the hand that takes care of him. Soon, he places the beloved palm on his cheek and blissfully closes his eyes ‘‘That is without a saying or thinking twice, sir. Even if the entire world becomes your enemy, I’ll stay by your side and protect you.’’.

These words and signs of affection thrill and sparkle the excitement in the supreme ruler’s eyes.

How come his dear secretary never ceases to amaze him and always surprises him? Yet, it’s adorable how innocent and naïve his partner is by not being aware that he is the one who won the ruthless military tyrant’s heart. Perhaps it’s only a matter of time before Akira figures this out. But at the moment, it’s fine and more than enough. Or so Shiki wonders while his secretary makes himself comfortable and rests his head against his chest.

Meanwhile, the silver-haired male is relieved that countless times he can always rely on the commander and his kindness. But for now, while he is close to Shiki, he asks ‘‘Should I get the blanket? You might catch a cold if you are planning to stay here for a longer time.’’.

‘‘There is no need for that. Unless you are cold.’’ Or so the commander briefly replies.

Yet, Akira closes his eyes and shakes his head. Lastly, he politely declines ‘‘It’s fine. As long as you are alright, I’ll be fine.’’. After a short pause, he adds ‘‘However, if it is not too much to ask, I just want to stay like this for a while.’’. And thus, it doesn’t take long until the silver-haired secretary feels how his eyelids become heavier until he slowly sinks into a deep sleep.

It is one of the days when Shiki is supposed to be gone for days. However, for some, it’s a perfect opportunity to end the menace of the evil drug lord and take over his throne. Or so one security guard decides while patiently waiting for the right time to act.

All it will take to distract this cruel swordsman is striking into his most vulnerable spot. Then, killing him would be as simple as child’s play.

Besides, the head controls the entire body, but the neck is the one that makes the head face the way it wants. So, if the neck is cut, the head will cease to function, and it will die as well.

Unfortunately, it’s easier to say than do it. After all, the red-eyed swordsman protects his adored pet more than anything. That’s right, even someone as cruel as Shiki has a soft spot for one silver-haired man who is treated as a sacred treasure or worshiped as a goddess.

More so, his most precious prize possession may commit the most atrocious crimes imaginable he would get away with it. On the other hand, even if a single strand of hair falls from his head or anyone dares to lay a finger on him, one will be executed on the same spot by Shiki.

It doesn’t matter whether it’s Akira’s fault or he is the one who lures men into a deadly trap. Overall, no one can escape the death sentence for lusting after the merciless swordsman's pet or upsetting him.

Too bad that even someone powerful and fearsome as Shiki is completely wrapped around the bewitching creature’s finger and blinded by him. So, this arrogant fool should not reveal his most sensitive and vulnerable spot.

Although, it’s surprising how no one has attempted to kill the supreme ruler’s pet in the past. After all, when Shiki leaves, Akira throws his arms around his next prey and leads them to the bedroom. So, how come no one used such a perfect chance like this before?

More important, taking down a stupid whore should be an easy task. It’s nothing that the silver-haired creature can defend himself. Even if he wanted, he is probably too fragile.

And thus, it is decided! As soon as nightfall comes, it will be time to act. Or so one new security guard decides.

Unfortunately, this foolish, naive man doesn’t realize he is the one doomed to drown in these mesmerizing blue eyes. And how at first glance, stunning Shiki’s pet is more cunning and dangerous than jorogumo1.

It is already late evening. Strangely, the silver-hair man hasn’t fooled anyone around today, nor even set his eyes on a new potential target.

Besides, nothing may top the previous incident, which was getting caught playing not with one but a few men at once. Apparently, such a view didn’t please the red-eyed swordsman, who immediately revealed the naked blade and dyed the bedroom and Akira in warm, iron-reeking red.

As Shiki pushed away the corpses, he approached his precious pet, who was covered in blood and semen.

Meanwhile, Akira only delightfully smiled and warmly greeted the ruthless drug lord with the usual hug. However, he could tell from the menacing and murderous aura in the air alone that Shiki was mad.

Although, he knew that the dark-haired man would never raise his hand against him and threaten him. The worst thing such an intimidating man could do was punish him by asserting his dominance and relieving his carnal desires. So, what the irony! The same man, who calls Akira a small animal on heat, also behaves like one, if not worse.

However, even someone as a merciless tyrant as Shiki is addicted and desperate for the silver-haired man’s attention and love. Yet, the blue-eyed man understands that the only reason why Shiki keeps him in the luxurious bird cage and treats him as a princess is that he is the only one who hasn't been broken yet.

Yes, the red-eyed swordsman deformed Akira’s body and turned him into nothing more than a lustful creature who threw away his morals and stripped his dignity and pride. Yet, he hasn’t completely killed his spirit and will. These were only dimmed but never taken away.

More so, the silver-haired man only needs to play a new role and be a stress reliever. Besides, after being locked in the golden bird cage for a long time, Akira noticed that Shiki was nothing more than a pathetic, insecure man with brute force but easily blinded and manipulated.

More importantly, if the dark-haired man has broken his body, the silver-haired man is allowed to break his spirit and heart. At least it would be fair and an equivalent exchange, right?

But for now, all Akira needs to do is to look like a hurt puppy or shed a tear, and the red-eyed swordsman will move like a chess figure in any wanted direction. Only if the dark-haired man knew how many times his beloved pet used him as a tool to kill his enemies by using him. Yet, Akira suspects his dear man-toy is aware of this game but plays along.

Even during this time, when the blue-eyed man was bored, he overheard how a group of guards plotted Shiki’s assassination. Of course, Akira could alert Shiki or his servants. But it would be a quickly solved issue, right?

Therefore, the silver-haired man only had to use his seductive gaze and chirp in an adorable voice to make his prey fall on their knees and lure them into the lair where no one returned alive. After Shiki returned, he killed these men and punished Akira. Later on, the silver-haired man told about his plotted demise as if it were a silly, innocent prank.

But this time, the blue-eyed man is determined to stay like a good boy until the evil drug lord returns home and greets him with open-wide loving hands. After all, sometimes, it’s nice to let Shiki relax before crushing his heart and soul again if he leaves for too long. Although, it might be challenging to wait for a few days before his partner returns, and he might feel lonely and bored to tears.

Perhaps, in the meantime, he can keep the maids and servants busy by any demand or a whim. Or so, with such thought, Akira delightfully closes his eyes and falls asleep. Unfortunately, he has no idea that the night is still young and it will be far away from a serene one.

Eventually, Akira starts slowly waking up by the sensation of someone being on top of him and a pair of hands around his neck. Instead of opening his eyes, he smiles and speaks up in a half-sleepy voice ‘‘Shiki…’’.

Suddenly, he gets alerted as the grasp around his throat becomes tight. As these blue eyes glare at the impostor, the silver-haired man shakily holds into his wrists ‘‘I… I didn’t ask you… you to come… Get… Get out!…’’.

However, the man on top of him only grins like a maniac, staring at the struggling creature below him.

Soon this little slut will let his final gasp, and then all left is patiently waiting for that bastard to show up and stab his back. Or so the security guard thinks while enjoying this little creature's suffering.

Meanwhile, Akira closes his eyes and concentrates his strength on one leg.

One sudden hit by his knee into the stomach, and that man groans while grimacing in pain.

As he loosens his grasp, he growls “You little bitch!” and harshly smacks Akira's face. Soon enough, he clenches a fist and punches the resisting male.

Despite the burning pain on his cheek and warm blood running down his nose, the silver-haired man curves a strangely sleepy smile while his eyes are burning with hatred and disgust for his enemy. A second later, he begins to chuckle.

“You shouldn't have done this~” Akira comments while holding into his foe's uniform jacket. Lastly, he takes a deep breath and smashes his forehead against the impostor.

While the security guard is dizzy, the silver-haired man crawls back and reaches the night lamp. As Akira tightly holds it, he smacks with it his opponent knocking him out of bed. When he leans to the edge of the bed, he notices that his enemy is not moving.

‘‘Is he dead already?’’ Or so Akira wonders by staring at the lying body on the floor. However, the weak breathing partially doesn’t make him happy. After all, this pestering fool will ruin Akira's surprise for Shiki how he can behave well if he wants to.

Speaking of which, the opening door alerts the blue-eyed man. Instead of rushing to greet whoever it is, he hides under a blanket while letting a pitiful cry ‘‘DON’T COME HERE!’’.

Meanwhile, the red-eyed swordsman immediately freezes in the same spot after hearing such a begging. However, he doesn't take long to figure out what is happening.

On the other hand, why only now his precious pet is ashamed of getting caught behaving like a low-life on heat?

Either way, it only proves that Akira still lacks discipline and needs to be reminded of what happens when someone lays a finger on him. And thus, with such thought, Shiki storms in.

Instead of being greeted by the same view of his dear possession being defiled again, the first thing that catches his eye is the bloody crime scene.

Although, the lying man on the floor and the shattered night lamp next to him don't affect Shiki in the slightest.

That's right, the certain someone covering under the blanket and holding tight to it, takes piques his interest.

After the blanket is removed, Akira’s eyes are bewildered, and without realizing it, he shakily asks in a barely hearable voice ‘‘… Shiki? You were supposed to be gone… What are you doing here?’’.

While Shiki stares at the bruises and blood traces on his lover, his face darkens. When he lowers his head, he comments ‘‘Just turn my back for a second, and you end up like this…’’.

However, instead of using the words, the silver-haired man leans close to his partner. After wrapping his arms around his neck, he closes his eyes. After he places his hand behind Shiki’s head, he sinks his fingertips in his hair. Lastly, as Akira opens his blue loving eyes, he comforts while gently stroking his hair ‘‘You silly… I didn’t ask that man to come. At least not this time.’’.

When Akira’s palms trace to Shiki’s cheeks, he softens his gaze and continues ‘‘That man came here uninvited and tried to kill me while I was asleep. Of course, I had to defend myself. ’’. After an innocent chuckle, he continues ‘‘Don’t worry. He is just unconscious. So, it’s up to you what you want to do with this person.’’.

‘‘If that is so? Or are you lying?’’ Or so the dark-haired man asks as he cracks a smile.

After hearing such a question, his partner puts his acting skills and uses his big blue eyes ‘‘Me? Lying? That’s too mean, Shiki~’’. When he hugs the swordsman’s waist and buries his head in his chest, he lowers his gaze ‘‘I may only remind you what happens if you make me feel lonely. But to lie to you? Never~’’.

Suddenly, the dark-haired man wraps one arm around his partner while the other one gently tilts his chin and softens his gaze “What should I do with you?”.

“To love and pamper in attention~” Or so Akira playfully replies in an almost singing voice.

In the end, Shiki lifts his partner in his arm and carries him like a wounded princess.

Definitely, it doesn’t take long enough for Akira to hug the red-eyed swordsman’s neck while enjoying being spoiled. It doesn’t matter where he will be taken. As long as it means having Shiki only for himself, he is fine. Even if it is going where the sun is taken by the forest, it should be fine.

Some time passes. After they reach the bathroom, Shiki carefully sits his partner in the bathtub and removes his white, oversized shirt.

After he removes his black leather coat and long gloves, he tosses them aside. When the red-eyed swordsman takes the shower head and brings it closer to his wrist, he turns the hot water. Soon enough, he asks ‘‘Give me your arm.’’.

Without hesitation, the silver-haired man more than gladly do as he is told. Besides, being washed by Shiki after their intense playtime is one of the most enjoyable things and the proof that even a cruel man like himself shows affection and care towards someone he has a soft spot.

More importantly, this time is even more special. After all, Shiki shows genial concern. When he checked in the infirmary whether his beloved pet had any other wounds or even a single broken bone, the dark-haired swordsman prioritized Akira over finishing the impostor.

‘‘Perhaps next time Shiki is gone for his usual business, I’ll patiently wait for him. After all, he earned it and deserved a little reward~’’ The blue-eyed man delightfully thinks to himself while relaxing and getting washed by his beloved hands. And thus, without realizing it, he lets out quiet purring-like noises.

After the red-eyed man finishes cleaning his partner, he plugs the bathtub and leaves the water running.

Meanwhile, Akira waits for the right moment to act and surprise Shiki. Gladly, it doesn't take much time, and the bathtub is filled.

As the dark-haired man turns off the running water, he cracks a smile “What are you up to now?”.

“Lean closer and I tell you~” Or so Akira replies in a playful tone.

When his partner makes such a face, it doesn't sound promising. Yet, Shiki's curiosity wins, and he ends up listening to this request.

Suddenly, the wet arms raise from the water and wrap around him, and the water loudly splashes.

After the silver-haired man releases his partner from the hug, he observes and chuckles at how Shiki looks nothing more than a soaked feline.

As he gently brushes the wet bangs from his partner's face, he comments “You are not allowed to leave. Because you may get sick if you run around like a wet cat.”. Lastly, the silver-haired man proudly adds in a nearly singing voice “Therefore, you need to take a bath with me.’’.

Even if the red-eyed swordsman understands that he is a time-pass for Akira than Akira to him, or how his beloved partner has a bad habit to smile while a loving gaze at anything he says, he doesn’t mind it.

Some time passes by. Finally, the silver-haired man starts waking up. After he sits and looks around, he notices that he is alone.

Perhaps that vampire is hunting for new prey, or he messes with his mind again, waiting for him to leave the room. Or so Akira wonders while staring out the window.

At some point, the hunter got used to seeing the crimson moon above and how the moonlight falls on the Forest of Eternal Night. More so, this place become like a new home for him. Yet, Akira understands if he tries to leave again, the creatures silently lurking in the darkness may attack him.

But for now, when he places his palm on the neck, he widens his eyes as the flashbacks of yesterday rush to his mind.

Suddenly, Akira closes his eyes and lets out a weak mewling noise as he remembers how easily that evil creature toys with him and feasts on him.

Even the sensation of two sharp fangs sinking into his neck while he is forced to do such shameful acts still lingers inside him.

As the hunter opens his blue eyes, he realizes he was turned into the same creature that he hunts.

On the other hand, the silver-haired man doesn't feel anything has changed. He still feels the same as yesterday, before the vampire sank his fangs into his neck. Either way, he needs proof before confirming this terrible truth.

After Akira jumps from the bed, he starts looking for the mirror. Unfortunately, no matter how hard he searches, his effort is vain.

Did that bastard hide it? Or so the blue-eyed hunter thinks after an unsuccessful search while punching the nearest wall.

However, the sudden knock on the door and a gentle, polite female’s voice ‘‘Are you awake, Young Master? Master wants you to come to the dining room.’’.

For sure, the very last thing the silver-haired hunter wants to do is to see Shiki. More so, instead of facing Akira, the nocturnal creature has the audacity to send one of his servants.

As he closes his eyes, he frowns and replies ‘‘Tell him to get lost. I’m fine being here.’’.

Yet, the voice behind the door objects ‘‘This isn’t good… You cannot upset Master like this. Young Master, please open the door.’’.

‘‘Leave me alone.’’ Or so the blue-eyed man backfires while turning his head away from the door.

After a minute of silence, Akira assumes this person is finally gone.

‘‘...You leave me no other choice. Please excuse me for intruding.’’ The same maid's voice speaks up.

As the door opens, the silver-haired man dumbfounded stares at the bewildered nocturnal creature with long pointy ears who wears a traditional maid’s uniform.

‘‘Young Master… Wh-what happened here? Are you not hurt?’’ The green-haired demon asks without hiding the genial concern while staring at the room, which is in a mess as if the storm came by.

However, the vampire hunter turns his head away and remains silent.

It seems that the maiden doesn’t waste any time and begins to look in the closet for one specific piece of clothing ‘‘Anyway, let’s prepare you before meeting Master.’’. After she picks up and carries the black silk bathrobe, she approaches the careful hunter ‘‘Here~ You might want to wear this so that you won’t catch a cold.’’.

Suddenly, Akira briefly objects ‘‘I’m fine like this and staying here. Besides, I won’t feel cold or hungry any longer because your master turned me into one of your kind.’’.

Yet, the demon only gives a confused gaze. A second later, she comes up with the conclusion ‘‘Oh! You are already aware that Master is considering adding you as a part of his family. That’s great! Now, please, allow me to help you.’’.

In the end, the blue-eyed hunter understands that it’s useless to argue with both - the ruler of this castle and his servants. More so, it appears that this maiden does not possess any harm to him and only follows the given orders.

And thus, Akira gives one arm and another to get dressed up. Besides, the quicker he’ll finish the business with Shiki, the sooner he can return to his room and lock it from anyone entering.

Some time passes by. Meanwhile, the crimson moonlight shines through the stained-glass wall in the luxurious dining room, where the red-eyed vampire sits at the end of the long dining table and waits for his companion to show up. However, he knows that Akira will arrive any moment now.

Suddenly, the knock on the wooden door, and a polite voice disturbs the silent moment ‘‘Master, I have brought the Young Master. Can we come in, please?’’.

After the demon maid enters inside, she holds the door for a silver-haired man, who cautiously walks while glaring at him, giving him a suspicious look on his face.

For sure, such a reaction entertains the vampire. But for now, Shiki turns his gaze to the other nocturnal creature ‘‘You may leave now.’’.

The green-haired maid closes her eyes and bows ‘‘As you wish, sir.’’. Lastly, as she closes the door, this couple is left alone.

Without wasting no time, Akira takes a step closer and briefly asks ‘‘What do you want from me?’’.

While those red eyes sparkle with amusement, Shiki cracks a smile ‘‘Can’t you guess it already? Sit down.’’.

However, the blue-eyed hunter only glimpses at the prepared feast on the table and gives a suspicious look ‘‘What do you want me to do with it? I can’t eat it any longer.’’.

Instead of saying anything, the dark-haired man chuckles ‘‘Why is it so?’’.

‘‘Stop playing dumb! You should know it better.’’ Or so Akira backfires in an indignant voice. As he places his palm on his neck and rubs it, he lowers his gaze ‘‘Thanks to you, I’m no longer a human.’’.

When Shiki closes his eyes, he places his hands on the table and gracefully stands up. While he approaches Akira, he speaks up ‘‘Hmph. What are you talking about?’’.

After he gets close to the silver-haired man, he grabs the hunter’s wrist and holds it. While his crimson eyes study the bite marks on Akira’s neck, he comments ‘‘Ah, do you mean this? You are too weak to handle vampire blood. In your current state, you’ll pathetically die from a single drop of it. Rest assured. I was only feeding on you.’’.

The blue-eyed hunter only silently growls and narrows his gaze. Suddenly, he brushes the vampire’s hand ‘‘Don’t touch me! You should have killed me while you could.’’.

When his eyes meet Shiki's, he widens them and turns his head away. After all, what if he gets mesmerized by these crimson eyes again?

‘‘What’s wrong? Are you afraid of me?’’ Or so the nocturnal creature asks.

When Akira takes a step back, he returns his gaze ‘‘I’m not falling into your trap again, vampire! Neither I’ll let you toy with me around.’’.

As he takes another step back, Shiki takes a step forward. Step after step, Akira’s back touches the door, and he leans against it. However, when the vampire places his palm under his chin, he stares him straight into his eyes. He understands that Shiki may use his hypnotizing eyes and mess with him again.

Even so, Akira keeps his determined blue eyes. After all, the nocturnal creature can defile him as much as he wishes. However, he will never break his mind and spirit that easily.

But for now, Shiki narrows his gaze while tilting the hunter’s chin and curves a smile ‘‘If that is so?’’. After he releases the hunter, he changes the subject ‘‘Either way, you need to restore your strength. So, you are not allowed to leave until you do so. Understand?’’.

‘‘As if you leave any other choice…’’ The silver-haired man hatefully spits out the words. Lastly, he closes his eyes and heads toward the table.

After sitting down, he suspiciously stares at the feast prepared for him and raises his eyebrow ‘‘You didn't put poison into it, right?’’. In the end, he carefully nibs the picked dish.

At the opposite end of the table, the vampire gives a smug look ‘‘Why should I waste time on that? Eat it. Or do you need help with that as well?’’.

No matter how hard Akira thinks, he cannot figure out why Shiki cares that much for a mere food source like him. However, he would not test the vampire’s patience.

After all, if that man only keeps him to satisfy his hunger, he could just throw him into a dungeon and treat him like a prisoner. Instead of that, not only he has been cleaned and dressed, but also eating like a noble despite being watched by the ruler of the castle. Or maybe it’s not for the human mind to understand why vampires behave this way and how they think.

Even the theory that he learned about the creatures of the night as a hunter now feels as if he knows very little or nothing at all. Perhaps the vampires are dangerous not for their terrifying power, endless cruelty, and bloodlust but for how mysterious and enigmatic these creatures are.

In any case, Akira decides to play along with the red-eyed vampire’s rules and continuously study him while keeping his guard high.

Meanwhile, Shiki is entertained at how the silver-haired man looks like nothing more than a stray dog who is cautious and still doubts after receiving a treat instead of being threatened.

''It is only a matter of time before he’ll gladly eat from my hand.'' Or so the dark-haired vampire wonders while enjoying observing how this human without realizing being slowly tamed.

However, the sudden Akira’s voice grounds him to earth ‘‘Is it that entertaining? At least let me eat in peace.’’. Lastly, Shiki only slightly softens his gaze and silently exhales.

After a while, a peaceful time gets interrupted by the familiar maid storming in "Master! I came with the big news - there is a hunter in the castle!".

Yet, the vampire only lifts his eyes and gives an indifferent look "And?".

"There were two of them. One of them was eaten by your pet, while the other one managed to get through. What should we do?" Or so the concerned demon asks.

‘‘Then greet him and take him to the Coliseum, where I would wait for him.’’ Shiki gives brief orders.

Lastly, the green-haired maiden nods ‘‘Understood! I’ll inform the others.’’. A second later, she looks towards the silver-haired man and asks the ruler of the castle ‘‘But what should I do with this boy?’’.

The noble nocturnal creature replies ‘‘Take him to the bedroom and make sure he won’t escape until I return.’’.

Meanwhile, it’s the last drop of the blue-eyed hunter’s patience. After he clenches his hands into fists, he stands up and addresses the arrogant vampire ‘‘Just because you defeated me once, it doesn’t mean that you can do as you wish. So, you have no right to decide for me.’’.

Suddenly, the demon maid gasps and begins to scold Akira ‘‘Please, watch your language and to whom you are speaking!’’. Just as she is about to take a step further, she widens her eyes and freezes in the same spot.

Apparently, a silent palm raise alone has such a powerful effect, which is followed by Shiki’s strict voice ‘‘Enough. You may leave now.’’.

‘‘Y-yes!’’ Or so the demon replies before rushing through the door and leaving this couple alone.

Even if at the moment Akira doesn’t like the deadly silence and the tension in the air, he refuses to say anything.

More importantly, it’s nothing that he has told nothing wrong. It's Shiki's problem if he gets mad. Or so he convinces himself.

However, when he is about to leave, he feels the gloved hand grasping his wrist.

Suddenly, Akira widens his eyes and turns his head 'Just when did he?-'. After he turns his head, he notices how Shiki holds his wrist and gives him a smug look.

Nevertheless, he closes his eyes and sighs ‘‘Let me go. Aren’t you supposed to protect your stronghold?’’. After opening his blue eyes and holding his wrist close to him, he continues ‘‘You should never underestimate your enemy. It might be a veteran hunter, and you may get killed this time.’’.

For sure, the silver-haired man’s words thrill Shiki who curves a satisfied smile. Lastly, he wraps his arm around the hunter’s waist and brings him closer ‘‘Then stay here and keep this place in order until I return.’’.

Surprisingly, Akira doesn’t resist or say anything. Not even the red-eyed vampire’s other hand sinks into his gray hair. Although, he doesn’t care whether Shiki uses the mesmerizing gaze again or not.

However, when he is prepared for something more to happen, he is released from the vampire’s embrace. Strangely, he even feels slightly frustrated and annoyed at how the dark-haired man walks past him and only turns his gaze to him before leaving the room ‘‘I won’t take long. So, behave yourself and don’t cause any problems.’’. And with these words, the noble creature of the night elegantly leaves.

A few hours have passed. However, there is still no sign of that arrogant vampire. During all this time, Akira killed the time in the study room or wandering around, he eventually got tired of waiting and was guided to the bathroom.

Despite that, while the hunter enjoys the bath and his healed bite marks, he feels anxious.

Shiki takes too long dealing with what he assumes is an easy challenger. What if he was finally defeated? What if, before taking his head as proof, he got sold to the black market as a slave or for organ harvesting? After all, vampires' organs and body parts are valuable material. Or so Akira wonders as he stares at the dark marble ceiling.

As the silver-haired man closes his eyes, he slowly sinks into the bathtub while the negative thoughts flow in his mind.

More importantly, if another hunter kills Count Il Re, Akira will be sent to rot in jail because of being accused of murder. Besides, even if he escapes the castle, the Hunter Guild probably has placed a generous bounty on his head.

Lastly, the blue-eyed hunter lets out an exhausted sigh ‘‘That arrogant fool should have drained me to death before recklessly throwing his life at risk…’’.

On the other hand, if the dark vampire lord had perished, his demonic castle may have crumbled too, unless Shiki is not as powerful as the legendary rumored SSS-rank monster. Who knows… Either way, the mysterious hunter or Shiki will eventually show up and finish him. That’s why there is no point in worrying about the inevitable grim future which awaits him. Or so Akira decides.

But for now, the silver-haired man leaves the bathtub and grabs the white, fluffy towel. Lastly, without rushing, he dries himself and puts the pajama on.

A good amount of time passes. Akira is deeply asleep on the vampire’s bed without realizing that a large black feline has returned.

After the red-eyed panther approaches the peacefully resting human curled under the blanket, he carefully jumps on the bed and makes himself comfortable. As Shiki’s head nudges the hunter’s back, he closes his eyes and deeply purrs.

Meanwhile, the familiar strong vibrations and the sound wakes Akira up. But for now, he refuses to open his eyes or move. For now, he only murmurs in a sleepy voice ‘‘You stupid cat… Why did you take so long? Anyway, go to sleep somewhere else.’’.

However, the large feline places his paw on the human and begins to lick his nape and hair. Then, he gently licks the hunter’s cheek while loudly purring.

For sure, such an unexpected move makes Akira shrug and silently groan. A second later, he hides under the blanket while hoping the clingy cat leaves him alone.

Unfortunately for him, he can feel how Shiki climbs on top of him and rests his upper body on him. Although he is under the blanket, he can imagine what kind of smug face this panther makes.

Suddenly, the silver-haired man widens his eyes when a black paw removes the blanket and exposes his face. Even if Akira can perfectly sense Shiki’s breathing on him, he tries to remain calm and asks ‘‘What is it with you? Did anything happen to you?’’.

In the end, he deeply exhales and lazily rolls on his back ‘‘Fine… If that makes you leave me alone.’’.

Soon, the panther climbs on top of Akira and corners him with one paw. While his ears are lowered, the feline narrows his eyes and begins to lick the hunter’s neck and face. A second later, his one paw kneads the pillow while the other one the silver-haired man’s chest.

For sure, no matter how hard Akira thinks, he can’t figure out what caused out of blue Shiki’s behavior nor why he is so clingy.

Perhaps it has something to do with Shiki’s encounter with the new challenger. Although, the feline has returned alive and without a single scratch. Could it be that even a fearsome lord of darkness was finally threatened or on verge of death?

Either way, it shouldn’t be any of his concern. Or so the silver-haired man tries to convince himself.

Despite that, Akira is curious why Shiki seeks attention from him instead of his servants. More importantly, why the dark-haired man only behaves like this only in the panther form? But for now, he doesn’t resist and instinctively reaches out to stroke behind the feline’s ears while wrapping his other arm around the panther.

Surprisingly, Shiki immediately ceases purring and moving while only staring with his crimson eyes at the blue-eyed man while the hunter strokes his head.

In the end, the large feline rests his head on Akira’s chest and enjoys the given attention. Eventually, his red eyes become sleepy, and without notice, the black panther falls asleep while loudly purring.

Meanwhile, the silver-haired hunter continues to stroke Shiki’s head until the purring becomes quieter and quieter until the beast exhales and briefly licks his own face before falling asleep.

But for now, Akira also feels how his eyelids become heavy, and without realizing he returns to his peaceful slumber.

It’s a late, peaceful evening, and nothing stands out. Surprisingly, even the older Kusanagi twin hasn’t tried to invade his rival’s privacy during today’s morning and now sleeps on the couch.

At least tonight will be peaceful, with no incidents caused by one big troublemaker. Or so the redhead naively believes before falling asleep.

Some time passes by, and it’s almost midnight. Unfortunately, Iori’s peaceful slumber is disturbed, and he is awakened by the weird noises behind his back and the feeling that he is not alone in bed.

Although, he instantly figures out who is the culprit and it irritates him. Despite that, he is too tired to remind this pesky Kusanagi of his place. So, for now, while he rolls to another side, he murmurs ‘‘You little-…’’.

However, his sleepiness is gone when he notices the brunette curled into a ball and trembling like a leaf while facing him. More so, Kyo keeps whimpering while tightly hugging himself and trying to say something. From his facial expression alone, Iori can tell that his rival suffers in pain.

Perhaps he caught a cold somewhere. After all, who knows where this stupid Kusanagi was wandering? Or so Yagami wonders as he observes how Kyo struggles in his sleep.

Just as the redhead is about to place his palm on the brunette’s forehead, he widens his eyes and catches the Kusanagi’s wrist.

Yet, Kyo sounds like begging ‘‘No!… Let me go!… I don’t want this… leave me alone…’’.

As soon as Iori releases the brunette’s wrist, he is surprised how Kyo brings it close to him while pitifully whining ‘‘You freaks… what have I ever done wrong to you?…’’.

More so, his sleep talk slowly changes into something that makes Yagami feel bad for his rival.

It’s already unusual to see how such a lively and energetic brat, who is never upset, becomes so vulnerable in front of his supposed-to-be deadliest enemy, even if he is unaware of what he does. No matter how Iori doesn’t want to admit it - it’s hard to watch Kyo crying, who has to deal with an invisible enemy.

One thing is their families’ never-ending conflict and hatred for each other. That’s these stubborn fools’ problem. Not that much for Iori to care.

Then, again, Yagami’s cursed blood is one of these issues that it’s not Kusanagis’ goddamn concern. Nor it’s something that Kyo should stick his nose into.

For sure, the redhead is irritated at how this certain Kusanagi heir treats it as his own problem and worries more than Yagami himself. More importantly, that reckless idiot is ready to drop everything and come to the rescue because the redhead’s blood may act up.

Kyo wastes too much time worrying about unimportant details like this when the only thing that should matter to him is preparing to face Iori as an equal and die by his hand.

After all, their fight has nothing to do with an endless conflict between two clans or a stupid snake cursing Yagami’s bloodline. It’s a personal matter between him and Kyo. Therefore, he won’t allow anyone to interface between them - be it a mere human or a powerful god. Or so the redhead believes.

But for now, Iori doesn’t care if he acts as foolish and reckless as his oh-so-supposedly hated Kusanagi.

After closing his eyes and exhaling, Yagami wraps his arms around his rival and brings him closer to him.

At first, Kyo struggles and does anything in his power to resist while beginning to release him. Soon, the brunette calms down, and he sleeps tightly in Yagami’s embrace.

It’s an exception this time because Kyo is having a nightmare. Therefore, there is nothing wrong with wanting to help Kyo calm down and rest well before tomorrow. Or so Iori thinks about his own unexplained behavior.

Even when he assumes that the brunette is not bothered by his enemies, he hears Kyo sleep-talking again ‘‘No… please, no… I beg you, return to me… Yagami…’’.

For sure, hearing his own name in his rival’s dreams shocks Yagami.

What a hell happened to Kyo, and how Iori is involved in this? More importantly, what happened between them in the not-so-distant future? Or so the redhead wonders while observing the sleeping Kusanagi heir.

Instead of waking up the brunette and beating answers out of him, Yagami allows himself to act irrationally again.

After Iori places his palm on the brunette’s forehead, he gently strokes Kyo’s hair.

At least this time, he doesn’t resist. Instead, Kusanagi murmurs Yagami’s name in a soft voice.

In the end, Iori only silently addresses his rival ‘‘You stupid idiot… Do not get used to it. It’s only for this time.’’.

But for now, the redhead decides it’s okay for Kyo to stay here tonight. As long as he doesn’t cause any problems or move too much during his sleep, it’s fine.

However, the main challenge for Yagami now is to wake up before the brunette does. After all, the last thing he needs is to feel awkward by explaining that he did nothing to Kyo while he was asleep. Finally, the redhead’s eyelids become heavy, and after he closes his eyes, he returns to his slumber.

It is the beginning of a new day. Even so, Kyo can sense the tension as he enters the living room, where one redhead waits for him.

Perhaps Yagami is going to scold him for sleeping in the bedroom again. On the other hand, if he wanted to do this, he would have done this as soon as he spotted Kyo sleeping on the bed.

So, what can be that important that Yagami wants to talk about? Or so the brunette tries to figure out as he almost reaches his destination place.

After reaching the living room, he spots the redhead sitting on the couch and studying some papers. More so, Yagami is too busy that he doesn’t notice his presence.

Normally, the brunette would use this as a perfect chance to tease Iori with the surprise attack. However, he understands there is no time for that despite the temptation to annoy the redhead and get his attention.

When Iori lifts his head, his eyes follow one Kusanagi casually sitting on the couch next to him and resting his head behind his arms.

Lastly, Kyo briefly asks ‘‘So, what did you want?’’.

However, instead of saying anything, Yagami places the papers on the coffee table.

Such a gesture lets the brunette understand he is in deep trouble. Nevertheless, he defends himself ‘‘Are you still mad that I slept in the bedroom? I didn’t do it on purpose! I swear, I just went to get some water, but somehow I fell asleep in your bed. Besides, I have done nothing wrong to you while I was asleep, have I?’’.

Finally, Iori addresses him ‘‘About that…’’. While his rival stares at him like a cornered cat, the redhead continues ‘‘What happened between you and future me?’’. After deeply exhaling, he comments ‘‘I swear, you cannot live without sticking your nose where you shouldn’t.’’

It doesn’t satisfy the Kusanagi heir, who indignantly replies ‘‘You are stubborn as usual! Like hell, I can stand watching you suffer each time from blood curse alone or even almost dying!’’.

At the moment, Yagami feels annoyed. As he face-palms, he girds his teeth and growls ‘‘Mind your own business!…’’.

Yet, the brunette counter-attacks ‘‘Why didn’t you do the same? You couldn’t get enough of me and even chased me all around the world and…’’. Unfortunately, the rest of the words stuck inside Kyo’s throat, and he only lowers his gaze.

For sure, such a reaction makes the redhead curious. Nevertheless, he sits back and comments ‘‘Hmph. Don’t tell me that your little feathers have been finally ruffled and burnt, and how you still can get over it?’’.

‘‘You don’t know about the clones and what happened in NESTS lab, do you?’’ Or so Kyo replies in a deeper tone while sending his rival an unusually cold and piercing gaze.

Surely, this gaze alone intimidates Iori and makes him nervously swallow the saliva. After all, it’s still rare to see the Kusanagi heir deadly serious. There are no signs of the same reckless and lively brunette he knows. Definitely, he hit a sensitive and painful Kyo’s spot.

Lastly, Kyo closes his eyes and fixes his hair. After deeply exhaling and opening his eyes, he addresses Iori ‘‘It can’t be helped… Fine, I’ll let you know what happened. So, it’s up to you whether or not to believe it.’’.

And thus, the brunette tells his unfortunate tale while staring into the void ‘‘You see, I was kidnapped and kept as a prisoner by a group of creeps. Not only they treated me as a prisoner but also as a freak and testing animal. That’s right, being dragged and strapped on the examination table and surrounded by faceless surgeons while the scientist took notes for their research. I could scream, whine, or resist, but all these people in white coats only glimpsed at their notebooks and wrote something… I was just a piece of living meat for them. At least, that is the kindest way I can describe it.’’.

For now, Kyo’s face darkens, and he lowers his head. Even his stiffening shoulders show the slowly rising gloominess and fear ‘‘That’s right, day after the day, I was used as a tool, a test object. Just what tests they haven’t run on me? From cutting my flesh and drawing my blood to being forced and publicly humiliated to get all samples from me or for their sick entertainment. At first, I resisted and attempted to escape. But then, I would get beaten, drugged, or electrocuted as a punishment. Later on, I was put into a capsule filled with a weird liquid. At least when I got injected with a strong drug, I was put down into a deep sleep.’’.

Meanwhile, Iori doesn’t hide his concern for his rival or his anger about how Kyo was taken from him. Suddenly, he corners his rival and scolds him ‘‘How the fuck did you let this happen?! Why didn’t you do anything?’’.

Despite that, the brunette turns his head away and back-fires in a slightly trembling voice ‘‘It’s easy for you to judge me, you fucking idiot… After we sealed Orochi, we were sent in different directions after that huge blast. I don’t know how long we were knocked out, but I can recall that I was awakened by a group of people dressed in hazmat suits. Even when they dragged me, you and Kagura were still unconscious. Hell, if my body wasn’t too weak and exhausted, I would have roasted these assholes! However, all I could is watch how you were asleep.’’.

Suddenly, Kyo cracks a fake smile and chuckles ‘‘But even when I was sealed in the capsule, I could still hear your desperate and howling voice and how you were calling me. I swear… you sure are obsessed with me, Yagami. Sometimes I wonder if you have a soft spot for me that you can’t let me go.’’.

Finally, the Kusanagi heir returns his gaze to Iori and sighs ‘‘If you truly wanted to take my life by your hands as you claim, you would have already done this. After all, you had so many good chances, but you keep missing them purposely or holding back.’’.

After he closes his eyes, the brunette takes his rival’s wrists and places his hands on his own neck. When Kyo opens his eyes, he gives a soft gaze ‘‘Look. You can do it right here, right now. But you hesitate even when I’m willing to die. Why? Why do you want to keep me alive? Even Yagami, I know, avoids this question and only gives a vague reason.’’. Lastly, Kyo lowers his hands while observing and waiting for how the redhead will react.

When Yagami removes his hands from his rival’s neck, he leans closer to him ‘‘You keep sticking your nose where you shouldn’t. Have you heard the saying that curiosity killed a cat?’’.

‘‘And satisfaction revived it, Yagami. As long as it keeps you from harming yourself, I won’t leave you. As long as I’m alive, I won’t let Orochi, Hakkesshus, or anyone else torture you. I’ll wake you up when you’ll be possessed by your cursed blood!’’ Or so Kyo confesses.

After he closes his eyes and pretends to cough, the brunette opens his eyes and addresses Iori ‘‘A-anyway, is this what you wanted to know?’’.

Even so, Yagami asks while giving demanding look ‘‘You still haven’t answered my question, Kyo. What happened between you and future me?’’.

However, Kyo only sighs ‘‘I should ask this, you idiot. After all, even your future self refuses to tell me why he did what he did to me when I recovered in your apartment. If I tell you what happened that night, you may hate yourself. In any case, it shouldn’t concern you because what happened in my timeline may not happen here. If I show it to you, it will be wrong because not only I’ll steal you from other me but also betray Yagami, I know.’’.

When the brunette brushes Iori’s arm and stands up as gracefully as a feline, he turns his head to Iori ‘‘However, I’ll give you a hint. That one night, you revealed your true colors and intentions toward me, Yagami. So, be honest with your known Kyo the next time you’ll see him. I wonder if soon I may perish completely or… Well, whatever will happen, will happen.’’. And thus, the brunette leaves the living room.

Several minutes pass. After the terrific screams and insane laughter ceased, the massacre is over. Or so the junior soldier assumes.

When he opens his eyes, he notices that the entire laboratory already looks like it after the powerful storm. Expect all that is done by the army of one man.

A second later, Shingo nearly jumps from his seat after hearing how footsteps getting louder. Soon, the redhead smeared in blood from head to toe looks down on him as an emotionless doll.

However, the brunette spots something behind his partner’s back. That naked body still weakly fights for its life and cries for help.

Suddenly, Iori brings Kyo’s clone next to him and holds it in front of him. Despite this poor creature grimacing in pain and whining, the redhead addresses the junior soldier in an exhausted voice ‘‘This is your last chance. Take responsibility.’’.

However, Yabuki does not know what Yagami is talking about and doesn’t know how to respond.

After a pause, the redhead demands ‘‘Pull the trigger. Now!’’.

Lastly, as the brunette stares at the begging clone, he shakes his head and objects in a nervous voice ‘‘No. I won’t do this! Please, do not make me do this. What if he is Kusanagi-san?’’.

Unfortunately, such an answer dissatisfied Iori, and when he lowers his head, he grids his teeth. ‘‘So, this is how it is. Coward…’’ Yagami spits out in a hateful tone.

Suddenly, he pushes Kyo’s look-alike and grabs his light-saber. One sudden move and the poor homunculus is cut in half.

As the corpse lands on Shingo, the redhead addresses him without showing mercy ‘‘Tsk. Let’s move on already.’’. When Iori turns around and wanders into the lab, the brunette remains frozen in the same spot as a cold body is pressing against him.

He is still in disbelief at how cruel his partner can become, why Kusanagi-san teamed up with him, and how he can stand this behavior.

However, instead of wondering any longer, Shingo closes his eyes and apologizes to the clone before carefully removing it and placing it on the ground. After standing up, he looks for the redhead.

Lastly, he finds Iori at the end of the laboratory and looks down at something. After looking closer, he notices a ladder leading to the lower floor.

‘‘We’re going in.’’ The redhead speaks up.

‘‘But what if there is nothing there? We are going to waste our time, Yagami-san.’’ The brunette politely objects.

Unfortunately, his words don’t reach his partner, who shakes his head and climbs down.

Such reckless behavior makes Shingo concerned, and he tries again to over-talk his partner ‘‘W-wait, Yagami-san! Should we report this to the Headquarters?’’. In the end, he is ignored. But he has no other choice than to follow the stubborn soldier.

After a while, the Resistance soldiers reach the bottom. Yet, the redhead gets alerted upon landing on something soft, wet, and squishy.

After looking around, Iori realizes both are in a corridor covered in flesh and intestines. Of course, such a scenery perturbs him, yet he is more determined that Kyo is waiting for him, and nothing else should matter to him.

On the other hand, the junior soldier is convinced that this place is not worth exploring because he can sense that something vile may attack them.

Although, instead of begging Yagami to listen to him and return to the base, Shingo understands it will be a useless effort. Yet, he cannot turn back and leave Iori to die alone. After all, Kusanagi-san would be upset to learn that his old-time partner was left to rot in the enemy base.

The further they go, the brunette realizes they might be wandering in the basement where are disposed the dead or defective testing subjects.

Yet, Yabuki feels bad for them because not only they were treated in the most inhumane ways but also how they lost the privilege to be buried before their eternal rest.

Even when he glances at these bloody lumps of meat and internal organs pulsing, he closes his eyes and shrugs. He isn’t sure whether he is more scared of what he sees or of the idea that even after these clones are dismembered, their remains are alive.

In any case, the brunette understands he needs to keep going.

The deeper they go, the more it feels like wandering inside a huge macro-organism. Even time from time, one of the glands of the wall aimlessly squirts stomach acid.

However, as a single droplet lands on the redhead’s uniform, he stops walking and exhales. Suddenly, he picks up his trustworthy saber and activates it. Lastly, as he slashes one gland, he remarks “You’re so annoying... STAY QUIET!”.

When the blood splashes like a stream next to Iori, a high-pitched scream can be heard in the distance.

Meanwhile, Shingo widens his eyes in terror and gasps as the several rising arms cling to his legs and slowly sink him into the meat floor. While the fear paralyzes the brunette’s body, he looks at the Iori “Ya-Yagami-san! Wh-what have you done!?”.

However, instead of picking the saber blade to cut the ferocious limbs, Shingo picks the handheld gun in both hands and aims at his partner.

For sure, the redhead only widens his eyes as the laser bullet flies next to him. Lastly, the spurted arm falls next to him. All he can do is dumbfounded stare at the rookie soldier and move his gaze down to the twitching fallen limb.

As soon as the brunette shoots all the arms crawling up to him, he runs as fast as his legs allow him. In the end, he grabs his partner by his uniform jacket and drags him together forward to the end of the corridor.

Some time passes by. Finally, this couple reaches the dead-end, which is a spacious meat cave. The only difference between this place and the corridor is that the pulsing sound resembles the loud heart of an enormous beast. More so, the large smooth lump of meat is the source of this sound.

‘‘This is it. If Kyo is inside of this creature, then I have to cut it and save him.’’ Or so Iori thinks to himself as he picks up his saber blade again and approaches his enemy.

However, as the redhead raises his blade and is about to slash this creature, the giant skinless palm spurts and sends him flying until he hits the wall.

‘‘Ya…YAGAMI-SAN!’’ Shingo screams for his partner, who shakily stands up while ignoring his pain.

Although, the brunette falls to his knees as soon as the beast’s heartbeat ceases. Soon enough, he only shakily stares at the countless eyes open up on the walls, which look at their prey.

After these eyes are closed, the giant piece of meat drowns in the living flesh.

Suddenly, the ground shakes, and the new creature emerges. Apparently, it is a few meters tall, a skinless humanoid with melting meat from its distorted face and body. Even if its arms and the rest of the body below the ribcage remain buried in the flesh floor, the least of these Resistance soldiers’ concerns is how tall their enemy is.

While the brunette screams in terror and crawls back, his partner dashes with his sword at this monster.

Unfortunately, just before impact, the giant palm appears from the ground and slaps the redhead like a bug. A second later, the same hand grabs its victim and brings it close to the monster’s face. Lastly, as this thing opens its mouth and is about to swallow the struggling Iori.

Instead of meeting a horrible fate, the redhead is dropped on the ground as the colossal monster lets out a painful screech.

When Yagami forces himself to half sit and lifts his head, he dumbfounded stares at this creature covering its injured eyed with its palm.

Even so, the infuriated beast’s fist aimlessly smashes the ground.

At this point, Yabuki doesn’t feel how he stands up and runs. All that matters to him is to leave this place together. He understands he may get crushed by this mutant. Yet, the brunette doesn’t want anyone to die in vain because of him.

Kusanagi-san would be upset to learn that his long-time partner had recklessly perished. So, at least Yagami-san needs to survive and leave this hell. That is all Shingo thinks as he rushes to the redhead’s side.

In the end, the brunette picks up and lightens his saber blade. After he closes his eyes, he yells while slashing the monster’s hand.

After the cut body part hits the meat floor, the flesh mutant lets out an agonizing high-pitched scream. For now, this creature covers its bleeding limb while closing its remaining eye.

Meanwhile, Iori realizes this creature may not last long. Not after keep losing that much blood. Therefore, he has a perfect chance to slit its neck and finish it.

Suddenly, he widens his eyes as his arm is thrown on the brunette’s shoulder and takes him away from the battlefield.

‘‘Ya…Yagami-san? Are you okay? Any… anywhere injured? Hang in there! Just a little bit… Just a little bit, and we should escape this place.’’ Or so Shingo addresses the other soldier through panting.

Yet, the redhead only grids his teeth and clenches his hands into fists. When they leave the room, Iori bends his elbow and strikes the junior soldier’s guts ‘‘Don’t interface, you fool!’’. Lastly, without looking back or showing any concern for Shingo, he pushes the brunette away.

‘‘Yagami-san…’’ Or so, Yabuki manages to speak up while all he can do is stare at his partner rushing to the battlefield. Although he tries his best to ignore his pain and follow the redhead.

After Iori enters the room, he notices that the flesh mutant is not as hostile as before. However, he is not affected by its weeping and howling. Step after step, the redhead approaches his target.

Even so, the monster does what it can to defend itself from this pesky human. After the countless pores on its head open up, it shoots the corrosive acid.

However, Yagami’s reflexes are quicker, and he dodges the sent attack. ‘‘What’s wrong? Do you want to die that badly? Fine, I’ll grant your wish.’’ He mocks this creature as the acid burns the flesh floor.

Without wasting a second, Iori jumps as high as his strength allows and stabs the monster in the heart’s area. Lastly, when he lands on his feet, the beast lets out a final scream as it collapses.

Meanwhile, the Resistance soldiers observed how the flesh and organs melt from this creature’s bones. Eventually, the bones sink into the meat floor, leaving nothing but a human-sized cocoon covered in dark purple flesh.

As the flesh layer gets torn, Iori widens his eyes and speaks up in a barely hearable, desperate voice ‘‘Kyo…’’. While Shingo is speechless in the view in front of them.

Apparently, this naked sleeping figure curled into a ball resembles one familiar Kusanagi heir. Despite being covered in blood, he has unusually pale skin.

With no further hesitation, Yagami rushes. After kneeling close to him, he takes him into his arm ‘‘KYO!’’. However, the Kusanagi’s body is still warm, and Iori even manages to grasp the pulse. Even after pressing his ear against Kyo’s chest, he hears weak breathing.

‘‘Wake up, Kyo!’’ Unfortunately, the redhead’s voice doesn’t reach him. No matter how hard Iori shakes his shoulders or slaps him, there is no response.

Meanwhile, Shingo only stares at them without being able to move. More so, he isn’t sure which is more stunning, reuniting with Kusanagi-san or how someone as merciless as Iori is vulnerable.

However, the sudden voice behind this trio makes Iori and Shingo alert ‘‘Leave Nii-sama alone!’’.

After turning back, these two notice the soldier in black body armor and shiny metal helmet. Lastly, this person points with the crimson saber blade at them ‘‘Handle him to me, and I may reconsider leaving alive.’’. And thus, a real battle is still ahead of them.

It is another working day in the Shiki’s office, and almost time for the afternoon break. Meanwhile, after the hard-working silver-haired secretary opens his pocket watch, he knows he should hurry up and serve the tea and snacks to the most powerful man in the country. And thus, without wasting a single second, Akira leaves his office.

Some time passes by. For now, nothing seems to be extraordinary while this couple enjoys Akira’s prepared tea. Nevertheless, something is off…

When the dark-haired man notices his subordinate’s demanding gaze, he closes his eyes and gives a smug look ‘‘What is it? If you have anything to say, say it.’’.

Surprisingly, instead of averting his gaze from the commander and trying to keep his poker face, Akira clenches his resting hand on his thigh into a fist and swallows the saliva. Soon, he replies ‘‘Please, pardon me for my rudeness, sir. I was thinking about something for a while. However, I do not want to bother you with unimportant things...’’.

As he feels how these red eyes study him, the silver-haired secretary straightens his back upon hearing Shiki’s question ‘‘Does anyone causing you any problems?’’.

‘‘Not, not all, sir!’’ Or so Akira politely objects as he shakes his head. ‘‘Everything is under the control, and you have no reason to worry about it. However, it would be wrong to hide anything from you. So, please, hear me out.’’ he adds.

After taking a deep breath, the military secretary confesses without being aware of his made puppy gaze with big blue eyes ‘‘A couple of weeks ago my squad members asked me for at least one day off to see the blooming cherry blossoms and if I’m planning to go as well. Of course, at first, I doubted permitting them. However, their stories about how it’s a priceless and majestic sight made me curious. I granted their wish, and a day after, I noticed they were in high spirits and full of new emotional and physical strength. Perhaps you noticed it as well, sir. Later on, when I had a spare minute, I did research the history and importance of sakura blooming and the nearest date when it will happen again.’’.

Then, he stands up and continues with such determined eyes ‘‘That’s why I came up with the conclusion that it could also have a significant effect on you, sir. According to my sources, the next blooming will be at the beginning of April. If you consider going, I can look for anyone suitable to escort and guide you while I’ll bookmark a hotel.’’.

Meanwhile, Shiki carefully listens without interrupting his subordinate while resting his chin on his hands, and as Akira finishes his speech, he asks ‘‘Do you want to see cherry blossoms?’’. After a brief pause, he declares ‘‘Hmph. Fine, I’ll take you with me.’’.

For sure, such an answer instantly bewildered the preserved secretary. But for now, he objects “Unfortunately, I can’t, sir!”.

While the supreme ruler backfires ‘‘Why not?’’

‘‘No matter how much I would love to come but will be impossible for me to quickly run for it during the afternoon break and return to work! More importantly, I can’t skip my duties.’’ Or so Akira replies.

Lastly, Shiki announces his decision ‘‘Your main task is to keep a company for me. Understand?’’. For now, he understands that this is the only way to convince his personal secretary to take a day off.

Besides, this is also the first time when his loyal subordinate approaches him first and asks him for anything unrelated to work.

Even as the ruthless military tyrant, who rules with an iron fist, he will cease this as a perfect opportunity to make Akira rely on him not only as a superior at work but also to be more honest about his desires.

Perhaps it can be a perfect chance to see his secretary’s poker face fading and changing with natural amazement or even a smile.

But for now, the silver-haired man’s eyes sparkle with excitement along his voice ‘‘Y-Yes!’’ which is followed by the gratefully nodding ‘‘Thank you much! I’ll make sure that it will unforgivable trip.’’.

Suddenly, Akira widens his eyes as he feels how his military cap slides from his head. As it falls on the desk, he senses how the heat rushes to his ears.

He doesn’t know how to act further after embarrassment like that in front of the commander or face him properly.

Suddenly, Akira closes his eyes when he feels Shiki’s hand landing on his head and ruffling his hair. Lastly, he notices how the dark-haired man cracks a smile and addresses him ‘‘Of course, you will. Then, I’m counting on you, Akira.’’.

Finally, the long-awaited day arrived. Even after arriving at the park, this couple is greeted by the myriads of pink and white petals being carried by the light wind, the festive music, and much more that is overwhelming to cease all at once.

Dozens of people also came to enjoy each other’s company with friends, family, or beloved ones by flower viewing under the beautiful sakura trees and having picnics and partying. Even the shopkeepers are friendly and warmly invite anyone to come by.

In overall, the silver-haired secretary is amazed to observe how the city becomes so lively and joyful only by celebrating spring’s arrival and the nobly and elegantly blooming cherry trees.

Akira still cannot comprehend how it’s possible to live in the moment like this and celebrate it. More so, he senses a significant contrast compared to the routine in the office and the tense atmosphere.

Even behind his poker face, the reserved military secretary is in awe of his surroundings.

Meanwhile, the dark-haired man is entertained to see his loyal subordinate radiating with excitement and observing how slowly, one by one, petals land on Akira’s extended palm.

Certainly, he is pleasantly surprised that a serious secretary like Akira, who’ve seen countless faces of war and fought many fights, can reveal such a naïve, innocent, and pure side by admiring cherry blossoms.

If Shiki didn’t know his subordinate, he would mistake him for someone who has never seen the horrors and atrocities of humankind.

However, the supreme ruler doesn’t mind that anyone else may notice his beloved secretary’s new vulnerable side. After all, their presence is so unnoticeable at the moment. It doesn’t matter whether it is a mere civil or the most powerful man in the country - it’s clear as today’s blue sky, what is in the center of the stage.

Suddenly, the silver-haired man realizes that the people are not affected by the supreme ruler’s presence and walks among these mortals.

However, just as Akira slightly frowns and is about to open his mouth, he feels how the commander’s extended arm touches his chest.

As he turns his gaze to Shiki, he gets reassured “There is no need for that. Relax.”. After a brief pause, the dark-haired man asks “We’ve come here to enjoy ourselves. Or have you forgotten about why we are here? And weren’t you supposed to be my guide? So, focus on your task.”.

At first, Akira is genially confused, yet he nods ‘‘Yes!’’. When he fixes his posture, he continues ‘‘We should arrive soon at the Japanese Traditional Gardens, which I heard is the best for the flower-viewing, sir. You can rest assured. No one should disturb you. And by the time we’ll arrive, everything will be prepared including food and drinks. But for now, if I’m not mistaken, we just need to go straight until reaching the bridge on the left side and cross it.’’.

Suddenly, the military secretary widens his eyes as Shiki extends his palm to reach for his cheek.

When Akira is about to remind the commander about where they are and how reckless behavior in public could damage the supreme ruler’s image, he feels how Shiki’s fingertips carefully brush away the landed petals.

Lastly, the dark-haired man cracks the smile and remarks ‘‘You really thought everything ahead, haven’t you?’’.

Although, as this couple continues enjoying the trip, they do not realize that the danger lurks in the shadow and patiently wait for the perfect time for the ambush.

Some time passes by. Just before reaching their destination place, Akira gets alerted by the sound of rushing steps behind them.

As he turns around, he notices the rushing rebel at the full-speed with the sharp blade at them. However, the silver-haired man’s reaction is faster. As he draws his sword upon the sound of ripping flesh and the soldier’s scream, this unfortunate person’s life thread is cut.

Unfortunately, it was only a small victory while the big battle is still ahead.

‘‘Looks like you miscalculated how many people will come here.’’ The sudden commander’s comment makes Akira turn around and take a better look at his surroundings.

Apparently, a large group of resistance soldiers surrounds them, who impatiently wait for either Akira or Shiki to make one wrong move. Yet, Akira notices how the rebels are inexperienced from how they point the blade at them and their posture. On the other hand, he understands that even amateurs like them can be a threat if one takes them too lightly.

‘‘Hmph. Do you think you can handle this, Akira?’’ Or so the red-eyed man asks as his back covers his subordinate’s back.

As the silver-haired secretary tightly holds the handle of the sword, his eyes burn with determination and hatred for his enemy ‘‘Leave it to me! I don’t want you to stain your blade with weaklings’ blood.’’. And thus, the fierce battle begins.

Despite the odds and being outnumbered by the enemy, the rebels fall one after another under the Shiki’s loyal subordinate’s sword.

While Akira concentrates on taking down the soldiers, Shiki cannot remove his eyes from him.

After all, it’s such a captivating and admirable spectacle observing his subordinate, making his sword gracefully dance in his hands while being surrounded by the falling pink and white petals.

More importantly, the commander is thrilled to see Akira’s improvement in swordsmanship. More so, even someone as merciless ruler as him is secretly moved by how his subordinate doesn’t hesitate to protect him.

Although, if this fight becomes out of Akira’s hands, he’ll draw his sword to kill anyone who dares to harm his precious secretary.

However, the battle ends when the last rebel lets a final gasp before perishing. In the end, the military secretary closes his eyes and sighs. When he picks the tissue from his uniform jacket pocket, he wipes the dripping blood from his blade before placing it into the shed.

After he opens his eyes, he approaches Shiki while ignoring the corpses ‘‘Are you fine, sir? Are you anywhere hurt?’’.

Despite his genial concern, the dark-haired man only gives him a smug look. For now, it’s enough to convince him that the commander is fine.

Yet, Akira lowers his eyes and speaks up in a slightly gloomy but polite tone ‘‘I’m terribly sorry about this. I should have been paying more attention to tightening the security so that it wouldn’t end up like this…’’.

‘‘Kneel down.’’ Or so the commander briefly orders.

Without questioning Shiki’s motives, the blue-eyed secretary follows the orders while lowering his head. For now, when he closes his eyes, he waits for the final verdict.

Even so, the sound of the unsheathed sword doesn’t scare him. If the commander wants to take his life, then so it be. Or so Akira thinks to himself.

Yet, he is surprised how instead of swinging the sword at his neck; he feels a gentle tap on his shoulder and then on his other one by the tip of the blade.

Suddenly, Akira opens his eyes and realizes it’s the supreme ruler’s sign of gratitude. When he looks up, he notices his guess is correct. After all, those red eyes shining with satisfaction are the proof.

All he did was accomplish his duties and behave like anyone else in this situation, nothing more than that. So, why does the commander acts as if he did something great and noble? Or so the silver-haired man thinks to himself.

After Shiki places his sword in the shed, he gives another command while extending his hand at his subordinate ‘‘You can stand up now.’’.

Lastly, with no second thought, Akira takes the commander’s hand and nods before standing up.

At first, he is even more bewildered at how Shiki brings him closely and ruffles his hair. But for now, he closes his eyes and enjoys being pampered by the attention. Eventually, his arms wrap around his most treasured person.

One thing is for sure, as soon as his beloved commander releases him from the hug, Akira would tell him that tonight after sighting the illumined sakura together, he’ll take Shiki to the hot springs and let him relax after a long day.

As soon as the military secretary wakes up, his first thought is to get up and get ready for a new and once again to accomplish his duties. He even forgets for a moment about his wounds.

However, after he suddenly sits up in bed, he turns toward the quiet groaning and notices the not-so-happy half-awake Shiki.

Even so, Akira remains calm and explains “I’m terribly sorry for waking you up, sir. If you excuse me, I need to prepare for the work.”.

“What are you talking about? Go back to sleep. It’s your day-off.” Or so the commander replies.

However, the blue-eyed secretary only politely objects “There is no need for that. I’m perfectly fine and a couple of bruises won’t affect my work.”.

For now, Shiki narrows his gaze and replies “Your task is wash yourself and wait until I check on your wounds. Then, I’ll decide if you will take a day-off. Any objections?”.

Lastly, Akira closes his eyes and shakes his head “Not at all.”. After opening his eyes, he gives a soft look before leaving the bed “If this is what you wish for, then it’s my duty to accomplish it.”. Of course, he is secretly happy with how the commander cares about his well-being, even if he thinks Shiki doesn’t need to worry about these scratches.

After Shiki studies and puts the bandage on his subordinate’s wounds, he told that he should stay in the mansion today and recover.

Despite that, the silver-haired secretary wants to be useful, at least in assisting and properly seeing off the commander.

Just before Shiki leaves, Akira addresses him as he finishes fixing the tie ‘‘Are you sure you will be fine, sir? If you feel slightly overwhelmed or if there is even a tiny inconvenience, do not hesitate to contact me. I’ll come to help you in no time.’’.

However, as his secretary finishes fixing the tie, the dark-haired man only gives a satisfied look ‘‘There is no need unless you’re going to sit all day and wait until the phone rings. And how are you going to do it when you have another important task?’’.

“What do you mean by that?” Or so Akira asks as he helps put on the long coat.

After his subordinate finishes the current task, the commander states “You need to take care of the mansion until I return.”.

But for now, as the natural excitement sparkles in these blue eyes, he replies “Yes!”.

Even after simply putting the same thing in other words works as successfully as usual. Once again, the supreme ruler had to use this method to convince his loyal subordinate to rest.

Lastly, Shiki gives a smug look while ruffling his secretary’s hair. Before taking his leave, he looks at Akira, who politely nods and wishes for a safe trip and return.

A few days passed. Yet, the military secretary is tired of staying in the mansion, and his hands are itchy for any job. More so, the longer he is dismissed from the duties, the more he feels like missing out on something important.

Besides, even if he tries not to show it, he is concerned about Shiki, who is already stressed. That’s right, these days the supreme ruler looks more tired after a long day at the office.

When Akira asks whether anything bothers the dark-haired man, he receives the same reply about not needing to worry and not thinking about the work when he is off duty.

Of course, the blue-eyed secretary tried to use the methods he refers to as drastic ones. Hugging the commander from behind and offering him a shoulder massage might work to help him relax and get any clues. Or so he hopes.

After such a gesture, the red-eyed man cracks a smile and asks his subordinate not to push himself and that everything is under his control.

Nowadays, Shiki doesn’t even act like a lascivious feline demanding attention or intimate moments as well. Even when the secretary expects something to happen, it never goes beyond deep kissing.

Therefore, Akira assumes that the military tyrant is sick or something terrible happened during his absence from work.

Even if it wasn’t a part of his secretary’s duties, he needs to figure out what is bothering the commander and solve this issue immediately. That’s why, if Akira is not allowed to work, he’ll visit Shiki during the afternoon break for a cup of tea or coffee. Besides, the commander hasn’t mentioned that this is forbidden.

More importantly, it might give Akira peace of mind, and he may rest assured, knowing that the supreme ruler doesn’t overwhelm himself with too much work. And thus, after putting on the military uniform, Akira leaves the mansion.

Some time passes. As the silver-haired man walks in the corridor, anyone whom he met from his squad was excited to see their captain showing up and warmly greeting him. More importantly, even some higher rank officers seem to be relieved to see him.

What happened when he was gone? And what kind of changes the commander made while he was recovering? Or so wonders Akira while he continues his way toward the destination place.

Finally, he reaches the familiar wooden door. However, before his knuckles touch the door, his hand freezes after hearing the shattering noise and someone panicking and apologizing in a pathetic voice.

Even if the secretary doesn’t know who this person is or cares about him, he cannot risk the commander’s well-being. When he closes his eyes and wastes no time for formalities, he storms in ‘‘Commander!-’’.

Suddenly, he widens his eyes at seeing the Shiki sitting behind the desk, observing with such disappointment the half-sitting despaired young gray-haired secretary leaning on his arm and the ruined papers splashed by coffee lying on the desk.

Clearly, it is a matter of seconds before the military tyrant is about to lose his temper. Or so Akira assumes.

However, when the red-eyed commander lifts his gaze and fixates on his personal secretary, he asks ‘‘What are you doing here?’’.

As Akira closes the door behind him and straightens his posture, he politely replies ‘‘I heard a weird noise behind the door, and I needed to see whether you are safe, sir.’’. When he narrows his lowered gaze, the secretary lifts his gaze and continues ‘‘Please forgive me for my rudeness, but who is an incompetent fool, and what is he doing in your office?’’.

Meanwhile, the poor light-haired secretary only observes this situation while fearing for his life.

“That is your substitute until you recover and are ready go back to work.” Or so Shiki states.

Of course, such sudden news bewilders Akira, but he forces himself to remain calm in front of the most powerful man in the country.

After swallowing the saliva and taking a deep breath, the silver-hair man replies “I have no right to judge but to support you and your decisions, sir. However, please reconsider who will be able to serve you. If you wish, I can help you with that.”.

However, the commander raises an eyebrow while keeping a serious look on his face “Are you telling me what to do?”.

“No. Not all.” Akira shakes his head. After a brief pause, he points with his palm at his replacement “But this worthless thing will only mess up everything even if you entrust him the most simple tasks. More importantly, you’ll endanger yourself if you let this creature anywhere close to you!”.

As he deeply breathes, he continues his speech while pressing his palm against his chest “I won’t allow him to leave peacefully if anything happens to you... That’s why, if you excuse me, I need to talk in-person with him and discipline him accordingly.”.

Lastly, Akira walks closely to the secretary and crouches. When he grabs by the shirt’s collar the trembling young man, he addresses him ‘‘Get up already! Whining won’t help you. So, at least have some shame to face your punishment properly!’’.

For sure, there is no mercy in these ice-cold blue eyes, which show nothing but pure fury and disgust towards his victim. Or so the poor secretary thinks to himself while staring with his big gray eyes and genially fearing for his life.

As Akira grids his teeth, he raises his palm and decides to give an awakening slap to the other secretary. However, his hand and entire body freeze after hearing the commander’s strict voice ‘‘Enough! Release him and come here.’’.

Suddenly, the blue-eyed man realizes that he allowed himself to be led by his emotions, and the whimpering, light-haired young man whose gaze now begs for the commander’s mercy is a good example. Instead of feeling bad for this person, Akira doesn’t waste time and follows orders. While he ignores this secretary and his made mess, he approaches the supreme ruler.

He understands from that serious gaze alone that he also got on the commander’s bad side. Despite that, he keeps a poker face while accepting his fate.

As Shiki exhales, he narrows his gaze and addresses his loyal subordinate ‘‘When did you grow so bold to lash out at your colleagues?’’.

‘‘That is-’’ Yet before the silver-haired secretary explains, his voice is cut when Shiki lifts his palm.

After the commander lowers his palm, he fixates his piercing red eyes on his subordinate and briefly adds ‘‘Do not argue with me.’’. Certainly, it’s enough to silence Akira, who cannot move a single muscle until further command.

When Shiki rests his chin on his palms, he continues without removing his eyes from his subordinate ‘‘You even disobey and do not follow orders. Perhaps firing you may help you understand your place.’’.

After striking Akira’s most painful spot, the military tyrant observes how his stiff secretary does his best to seal his emotions behind his poker face, which may crack soon. More so, instead of asking to reconsider this decision, his subordinate lowers his gaze like a scolded puppy who will never go against his master’s will.

But for now, Shiki turns his gaze towards the other secretary and briefly studies him.

Good, it will help that fellow understand what happens to anyone who goes against him. Or so the supreme ruler thinks.

After returning his gaze to his loyal secretary, he announces the verdict ‘‘Starting today, you need to treat him as any of your men.’’. While Shiki is amused by his subordinate’s confused face, he adds ‘‘You will be able to do this. So, when you are ready to return to your duties, you will train him to become a fine secretary to replace you when you get sick or need a day off. Any objections?’’.

Even if Akira doesn’t understand why the commander wants him to do such a pointless task, he doesn’t object and briefly replies ‘‘Yes. I understand.’’. For now, he convinces himself that he should be grateful that Shiki didn’t kick him out of the office as he should have. Yet, without understanding why, he doesn’t like this decision.

After all, anyone who opposes or upsets the supreme ruler must be punished accordingly despite their status or connection. Or so the military secretary thinks to himself.

In the end, the commander looks at the other secretary, who is startled by his voice alone ‘‘Call the cleaner to my office, and then you are free for the rest of the day.’’.

Meanwhile, that fear and guilt in these gray eyes fade away and are replaced with the sparkle of hope. Lastly, the light-haired secretary energetically responds ‘‘Y-yes, sir!’’.

‘‘Do you know with whom you are talking? Show the proper respect, you fool!’’ Or so Akira speaks up when he turns his head and frowns.

However, the fellow secretary only silently bows before rushing through the door. Lastly, this couple is left alone.

‘‘How do such incompetent people are allowed to work here? What were you thinking, sir?…’’ The silver-haired secretary murmurs as he lowers his gaze and stares at his new disciple’s left mess.

Yet, the commander’s voice surprises him and makes to turn back ‘‘What are you saying?’’.

As Akira watches how Shiki gracefully stands up and walks close to him like a feline, he gives a questioning look ‘‘Sir?’’.

‘‘I ask you once again - what are you doing here? Haven’t I told you to wait until I return?’’ Shiki addresses his subordinate.

For a moment, Akira turns his head away. However, soon enough, he honestly replies without removing his eyes from the commander ‘‘I wanted to see you. But I knew you would be busy during the day. So, I waited until the afternoon break.’’. As he lowers his gaze, he adds in a slightly gloomy tone ‘‘But it seems that soon you won’t need me any longer.’’.

Suddenly, Akira widens his eyes as Shiki tightly hugs him and refuses to let him go. But for now, the military secretary lowers his shoulders and wraps his arms around his most important person. Lastly, he closes his eyes and enjoys how the commander ruffles his hair.

When the commander gently places his palm on his subordinate’s cheek, he softens his gaze and delightfully observes how innocently his secretary looks at him ‘‘You are really a dog. One that cannot be locked away and always find a way to his master.’’.

After the same hand slides down, Shiki holds Akira’s chin and with his thumb parts his lips and remarks ‘‘Why would I want to get rid of someone who is irreplaceable and valuable?’’. Lastly, he pulls his precious secretary into a deep kiss.

All the blue-eyed secretary can do is blissfully close his eyes, and without realizing it, he moves his hand behind the commander’s head and sinks his fingertips in his hair.

Of course, such a gesture sparkles the excitement in these crimson eyes. But for now, the dark-haired man chuckles in between catching the air.

After a long-lasting kissing, the commander with-draws his face and cannot help himself but adore his subordinate’s still blushing gaze. However, he is pleasantly surprised at how Akira holds his hand and places it on his chest around the heart area.

‘‘What is it with you?’’ Or so Shiki asks while he admires how the reserved secretary now moves his palm on his neck while staring with such an unsatisfied, amorous gaze.

However, instead of answering by using words, Akira places this palm on his cheek and rubs himself against the beloved hand.

Perhaps, this may help the commander to realize that he’ll do anything in his power to make Shiki look only at him. Lastly, the silver-haired secretary attempts to remove Shiki’s glove by using his teeth.

Of course, it’s something new to see how Akira wants to take the initiative for the first time. Yet, Shiki won’t allow his secretary to wrap him around his finger that easily.

After all, it won’t be that interesting if he grants his secretary’s wish that easily. That’s why he needs to remind his precious subordinate about needing to be more patient.

Suddenly, Akira lets out a sweet gasp as his bottom is groped by the commander.

As Shiki cracks a smile, he comments ‘‘Did you miss me that much? Or are you jealous? Either way, you need to wait until we come home. Then, make sure I’ll find you in the bedroom wearing only an unbuttoned shirt.’’.

After hearing such an order, the secretary can feel how the belly-piercing moves as his abs twitch. However, he remembers that the afternoon break is finished by this time. Suddenly, he places his palms on the commander’s chest and pushes him away ‘‘But what about your work, sir? You also haven’t even rested during the break!’’.

Yet, the supreme ruler gives a smug look ‘‘You worry too much. Tomorrow, you will help me finish it.’’.

‘‘Please, take it more seriously!’’ Or so Akira politely objects.

‘‘Then, who’s the fault for disturbing my work? You need to take responsibility for your actions and behavior today.’’ The commander backfires.

Even if the military secretary realizes it is pointless to argue with this stubborn man, he only nervously swallows saliva and prepares himself for whatever Shiki has planned for him tonight ‘‘I… I understand.’’.

In the end, the red-eyed man gives a satisfied smile and ruffles his subordinate’s hair.

After entering the interrogation room, Shiki locks the door from the inside, and his subordinate already knows what he needs to do.

When Akira removes his uniform jacket and gives it to the commander, he walks to the wall and waits while preparing himself for the punishment.

Yet, one thing is to deliver anyone the punishment they deserved, while another is being a prisoner. Although, he is not afraid or will beg for mercy like his victims. If this is what the commander wants, he has to accept it. Or so the secretary convinces himself as he kneels and gives one hand to Shiki.

Even if Akira is restrained by the chains, he keeps his faithful eyes on the supreme ruler.

However, he is caught off guard when Shiki removes his tie and blindfolds him while asking ‘‘Sir, is this necessary?’’.

Instead of answering, the dark-haired man asks ‘‘Have you ever been left in the uncertainty of what happens to you next? Or the feeling of what you should do when you cannot see what is happening behind your back?’’. And thus, with these words, he leaves the room.

Meanwhile, Akira patiently waits for his return. Yet, no matter how much time passes, there are no signs that the commander will return soon.

At this point, he focuses all his senses on hearing while hoping he’ll catch even the slightest noise from outside. Although, the only sounds that keep him company are his own breathing, his cloth rustling, or the moving chains.

Suddenly, the creaking metal door alerts him. Yet, soon enough, he recognizes to whom belong the footsteps.

Even when the blue-eyed secretary calls the commander, he doesn’t receive any response. On the other hand, he can sense that Shiki is close to him.

As Akira’s chin is roughly held, he asks “...Sir?”.

Once again, no reply, not a single word. Yet, he can sense the commander’s gaze on him, even if he cannot tell whether it is a disappointed, mad, or upset look.

After Shiki removes his hand from his subordinate, the secretary can only hear further steps and how he unwraps something.

Suddenly, the secretary gasps as he feels an instant burning slash across his chest. Before he says anything else, he hears another cracking noise and how the whip stings his body.

Strike after strike, the silver-haired man’s body aches from the constant burning pain and the feeling of how warm blood runs against his skin. Soon enough, even his remains of clothes soak in the crimson liquid and stick to his skin.

Despite that, he swallows his pride and refuses cowardly beg for mercy or to stop.

Yet, the military secretary realizes that something is off.

As someone who is taught by the supreme ruler how to crack a whip and inflict most of the damage and deadly accuracy, Akira can sense Shiki refuses to unleash the bullwhip’s full potential.

After all, such a heavy whip made from sturdy leather can separate flesh from bones. Therefore, this whip should have torn his skin as paper.

However, there is also another possibility. Perhaps Shiki uses a light whip, which barely scratches.

Why should the commander go easy on him? It doesn’t matter whether or not he is a personal secretary. Because anyone who opposes the commander must be judged and punished for what they have done. More importantly, such words as an exception should not exist. Or so Akira believes.

Just as the blindfold around the silver-haired man’s eyes loosens, he is shocked to notice that Shiki is holding back from using the full power of the bullwhip.

In the end, the supreme ruler lowers the whip and closes his eyes ‘‘You finally had enough of it.’’.

After a brief pause, he opens his eyes and continues while fixating his gaze on his tortured subordinate ‘‘Have you been counting how many strikes you received? …I thought so. However, this is as many as you got these letters. Now you also finally understand what it feels when you were dealing with all this behind my back.’’. Lastly, he adds ‘‘Fine. You are dismissed.’’.

Meanwhile, Akira lowers his head when he hears such words. Even when Shiki approaches him, he accepts the fact that as soon as he’ll be released from the chains and is left alone to lick his wounds.

Perhaps, the commander might be kind enough to return his jacket. At least he would wrap it around his shoulders and stay here for a while before he can walk to the nurse’s office. Of course, it won’t be surprising if Shiki fires him because of how he behaved. Or so Akira convinces himself.

However, the commander’s voice returned him to this world ‘‘Lift your head. Or do you want to stay here?’’.

Even if his subordinate keeps his head hung, Shiki only kneels in front of him and sighs while undoing the chains from one hand and another.

Instead of harshly hitting the ground, Akira widens his eyes as he is caught in the Shiki’s arms and pulled into a hug.

At first, the poor secretary attempts to push him away and not dirty the commander’s uniform with his blood.

Yet, the dark-haired man refuses to let him go and pulls into a tighter hug.

For now, all Akira can do is shakily speak up in a dumbfounded tone while ignoring his aching body ‘‘Co… commander?’’. He genially cannot understand such an unexpected gesture from the supreme ruler. Lastly, he closes his eyes and exhales.

Finally, he realizes maybe Shiki didn’t want to do this, yet he had no other choice.

What if he has driven the commander insane by unintentionally turning his back on him by stubbornly refusing to rely on him? Maybe if he told about his harassment since day one, he would have ended up with only Shiki executing this person and not stressing himself.

What if the commander misunderstood Akira’s intentions to solve such a minor problem on his own, without ruining Shiki’s reputation by how he cannot handle anything? Or could it be that even someone like the military tyrant himself was simply concerned about his subordinate’s well-being and wanted to rely on him no matter how small or big is the problem?

For now, the blue-eyed secretary smiles and thinks to himself ‘‘If this is what you were trying to say all this time?’’. Lastly, when he closes his eyes, he wraps his arms around Shiki ‘‘…You are too kind, sir.’’. Yet, he keeps silent these three simple but most difficult-to-say words.

After all, Akira is afraid to ruin such a moment by how he refers to unnecessary words. Instead, he decides his actions should speak louder than any words.

No matter how much the blue-eyed secretary politely insisted that he can walk, his shaky standing ended up in failure. And thus, Shiki carries him like a wounded princess to the nurse’s office.

Of course, the least worrying thing for Akira is if anyone notices how he is carried in such a manner and makes the commander look like he returned from the massacre. Yet, he is more concerned that he is giving Shiki unnecessary trouble and would only exhaust him.

After a while, they reach the destination place, and the door is unlocked.

As the dark-haired man lays down his subordinate on the procedure bed, Akira addresses him “It’s okay, sir. I can wait here until the nurse comes.”.

When the secretary expects Shiki to leave, he notices that he locks the door from the inside and hangs his uniform jacket. More so, he rolls up his sleeves.

Did the commander plan to bring him here to relieve his needs? Or so Akira wonders while he gives a slightly irritated look.

Yet, he is not that afraid that his wounds will get worse. He is concerned that his pathetic face and whining will disappoint Shiki.

As the commander sits close to him and leans to his neck, the secretary turns his head “I don’t want to ruin your mood, sir. However, can it wait for another time?”.

“What? If I don’t clean it, it will get infected.” Or so Shiki replies.

Before Akira says anything, he widens his eyes as the commander pins his hands with one hand while the other tears his shirt. Lastly, he closes his eyes when Shiki licks his neck.

However, the secretary is surprised that even someone like the merciless military tyrant would kiss him in whatever place his tongue traces.

More so, as soon as Shiki’s tongue reaches his fresh wounds, all Akira can do is turn his head away while trying to surpass these silent groans.

Suddenly, the secretary opens his eyes as his hands are released, and how the same hand that held his wrists now sinks into his hair.

Even if he is confused by such a commander’s unusual behavior, he allows him to do as he pleases.

At this point, the secretary even feels like being groomed and cleaned by the giant feline.

Nevertheless, he doesn’t mind the pain when his injuries all over his upper body are touched. Besides, it almost gives a weird ticklish sensation mixed with pain. And without realizing it, Akira’s hand reaches to touch Shiki’s hair.

Yet, the secretary gets alerted when the commander freezes at the same point and understands he did something wrong.

Despite that, when Shiki lifts his head and their eyes meet, Akira feels his heart skips a beat.

Instead of seeing the irritated commander, Akira is bewildered by how Shiki gives him a delighted look and lets out purring-like noises.

In the end, Shiki gracefully leaves his subordinate’s side and orders him to remove his shirt and pants while he needs to wash his hands and look up something in the drawers.

Meanwhile, the secretary doesn’t question such a decision and does what he needs to.

After Shiki returns caring a bunch of medical bandages, clothing, and alcohol spray, he asks his subordinate to sit for a better examination of his wounds.

Suddenly, Akira gasps as the burning pain spread through his chest when the alcohol reaches his wounds. Yet, he turns his head away and deeply breathes while the commander sprays the medical alcohol on his wounds.

As the alcohol runs down his skin and washes down the light red blood, the secretary can feel how a tiny piece of clothing gently taps against his injuries and rubbing around the healthy spots.

It isn’t a pleasant procedure, but Akira reminds himself that he has to endure for a bit longer and not embarrass himself in front of Shiki.

He doesn’t know why instead of leaving the wound treatment to the medical staff, the supreme ruler treats him. After all, it’s not the obligation or responsibility of the most powerful man in the country to aid his subordinates. If anything, someone like Shiki should discard and replace anyone who is not suitable to serve him.

Although, instead of further wondering why the commander keeps spoiling him, the military secretary only silently exhales while reminding himself that he should think about how to repay for such kindness and mercy.

Suddenly, a dark-haired man’s brief command makes Akira face him ‘‘Lift your arms.’’.

With no second thought, the blue-eyed secretary follows the orders while Shiki covers his wounds on the chest and waist with several large medical clothing.

After this task, the crimson-eyed man quickly picks the snow-white medical bandage into his hand and wraps it around his subordinate’s upper body while addressing him ‘‘Don’t lower them yet.’’.

Even if the commander asks Akira to do this, his arms feel exhausted and tremble from being in such a position for too long. Nevertheless, he endures it and patiently waits until another command comes.

When Shiki finishes wrapping the bandage and ties a knot, he lifts his gaze ‘‘Fine. You can relax and lower one arm. However, I’ll need another one.’’.

After the secretary gives him his arm, Shiki carefully holds it by the wrist while studying his left injuries. Fortunately, these are scratches compared to the upper body area, but they still need attention.

When he takes the bottle of alcohol spray, he cleans his subordinate’s arm up to the upper arm. Even if he can sense how Akira’s hand twitches when alcohol washes his wounded skin, he remains silent and continues taking care of his personal secretary.

After a while, the commander covers the cleaned limb with the medical clothing and wraps it with the bandage, he repeats the same procedure with the other arm.

When he finishes with the upper body, Shiki asks Akira to lie on his back and bend his legs.

Of course, the secretary doesn’t question the supreme ruler, but he is surprised at how Shiki sits next to him and places his legs on his lap.

‘‘What is it? If you struggle, your wounds will open, and I need to do it again.’’ Or so the commander remarks as he lifts his subordinate’s leg and inspects it.

Fortunately, only the thighs are injured. Nevertheless, Shiki cracks a smile as he observes how Akira turns his head and tries to remain as calm as possible. Lastly, he treats his secretary’s legs.

Some time passes. After taking care of Akira and helping him to put on his uniform jacket and pants, Shiki is about to place his arms around his subordinate and carry him, but he hears a polite objection ‘‘Please, excuse me, sir. I’m grateful for your concern, but I can walk on my own now.’’.

‘‘What are you talking about? You are a patient, and you need to rest.’’ Or so the supreme ruler backfires. As Shiki takes Akira into his arms, he adds ‘‘Until you recover, you are dismissed from your duties. That’s an order. Understand?’’.

After lowering his gaze, the secretary replies ‘‘Yes.’’. No matter how much he wants to object to this order but realizes that, perhaps, it is Shiki’s way of showing his concern and care. If that is the case, Akira has to do his best to get well as soon as possible until he can assist and take care of the commander.

It is already late evening. After returning to the mansion, Akira expected that for today he can call it a day and rest before tomorrow.

However, he doesn’t realize that the commander has other plans for him tonight.

That’s right, the military secretary already can sense that something is off when Shiki suggested he’ll wait for him in the bathroom. Nevertheless, he believes that there is an important reason for this.

Lastly, after swallowing the saliva and fixing his pajama, he knocks on the door and asks for permission to enter inside.

The secretary widens his eyes for a moment after noticing the supreme ruler chilling in the spacious bathtub. More so, he straightens his back when the commander looks at his side.

Despite that, Akira tries to remain as formal as possible ‘‘Sorry for making you wait. However, did I interrupt you, sir? Or do you prefer for me to wait outside?’’.

As Shiki leans on the bathtub, he brushes his hair ‘‘Why do you think I called you? Come here.’’.

Perhaps, the commander just wanted him to wash his back. If so, the only issue might be not wetting the bandage on his arms. Or so the silver-haired secretary wonders. But for now, he briefly answers as he approaches the dark-haired man ‘‘Y-yes…’’.

However, once he gets close enough, he hears another demand ‘‘You are weird fellow for washing yourself while fully clothed… Undress.’’.

Even if Akira is slightly concerned that both of them won’t fit, he follows the orders as usual. Lastly, when he carefully unwraps the medical bandage, he removes the last piece of clothing.

After carefully sitting in the bathtub, he only gives a questioning look to Shiki while hugging his knees.

Certainly, this gaze amuses the commander. Yet, instead of wasting more time, he leans closer to his subordinate ‘‘What is it with you? Show me your hand.’’.

With no hesitation, Akira extends his hand toward Shiki.

Even so, one thing when the commander studies this injured limb, and another one is when these crimson eyes move up to his chest.

The secretary softens his gaze when Shiki concentrates his gaze on the wounds and gently strokes the held arm.

However, he suddenly widens his eyes as he gets pulled closer to the dark-haired man.

“What is the meaning of this, sir?” Or so Akira speaks up when his back is pressed against Shiki’s chest. Yet, he still attempts to escape from the big cat’s grasp.

Meanwhile, Shiki replies as a delightful feline while observing his struggling subordinate “Have you forgotten? You are a patient. Therefore, you need to be treated as one.”.

Just when the secretary is about to object, he gasps at how a wet sponge rubs across his abs and chest. At first, he attempts to brush away the same hand that cleans him. However, he realizes it is a useless struggle and that the commander will act as he wants.

While Shiki cleans his subordinate, he hears a polite objection “I’m sorry, but you don’t have to do this. I can handle it well on my own.”.

Instead of wasting time arguing, he closes his eyes and gives another brief command ‘‘Bend forward. Right now, your main task is to recover. Understand?’’.

While the secretary only nods “Yes...”. Lastly, he ends up being pampered with attention.

Even if Akira feels spoiled for no good reason, he secretly admits that being under someone’s care is rather enjoyable. More so, he is pleasantly surprised at how the commander knows when and where to rub stronger and avoid using any pressure on the wounds.

Whether it is another whim of the supreme ruler or not, it doesn’t matter. As long as it is something that Shiki enjoys doing, that all matters for the secretary.

More importantly, Akira feels that, perhaps, it’s alright to relax and leave everything in the commander’s hands. But for now, he closes his eyes and lowers his guard.

Some time passed. Even after leaving the bath and putting on the pajama, the secretary cannot escape from the big feline who keeps taking care of him. Even such a simple task as drying hair with a fluffy, soft towel is done by Shiki.

Meanwhile, all Akira can do is accept that until his wounds are healed, the commander might behave like this and it will be a part of his temporally routine.

As the silver-haired hunter storms inside, he declares ‘‘I finally found you! You won’t! - Won’t run… away?’’.

After noticing a familiar figure sitting on the throne as it was his, his eyes widen. All he can do is dumbfounded stare at this person, who wears a long coat with short sleeves and leather pants ‘‘Shiki… What are you doing here? Isn’t it where your master supposed to be?’’.

However, instead of giving the wanted answers, the dark-haired man stares at him with a calm look on his face. Even if these crimson eyes glow with impatience, the nocturnal creature continues observing how this human behaves. For now, he rests his head and hands on his sword.

Suddenly, the hunter straightens his back as Shiki addresses him ‘‘What’s wrong? You are doubting.’’.

Yet, Akira takes a deep breath and clenches his hands into fists. After he approaches the protector of the throne, he declares ‘‘I’m not here to fight you. All I’m here is to take down your master - Il Re! However, you leave me no choice if you stand in my way. That’s why, if you summon your owner, I will spare your life. After all, you saved my life before.’’.

The nocturnal creature only cracks a smile and chuckles ‘‘If that’s so? Then, answer me this. Are you truly here by your choice? Or did you come here by following orders like a dog?’’.

‘‘It should not concern you! Nor, it’s important.’’ Akira instantly backfires.

After a brief pause, he adds ‘‘Why should I tell anything to the domestic cat, who is sent to do his lazy owner’s work?’’.

When he picks up his trustworthy knife, he points it at Shiki. Now, he continues ‘‘I will not fight for someone’s entertainment - not for the Count’s, or anyone else. Neither to prove anything. However, if this is the only way to get him, so it be.’’.

Even if the hunter’s blade is close to him, the supposed-to-be panther doesn't feel threatened. Contrary, he is entertained by facing a human who doesn’t shrug in fear at his presence.

As the tip of the knife follows the dark-haired man, he proudly stands up ‘‘Hmph. You keep barking, but can you bite?’’. Lastly, he declares ‘‘Do not disappoint me, vampire hunter!’’.

After the nocturnal creature draws the katana out of the sheath, he lowers the blade and closes his eyes.

The vampire hunter didn’t expect such a gesture. Yet, it doesn’t matter if Shiki is mocking him. Akira will use it to his advantage.

That’s why one sudden strike into his chest should be enough, right? Or so, he thinks as he prepares for the attack. In the end, the silver-haired man charges at his opponent.

Suddenly, he widens his big blue eyes as he hits the thin air. Fortunately, the hunter’s reaction is fast, and he dodges the long blade from behind.

When he rolls to the side and turns back, he glares at Shiki while defending himself. For sure, these ice-cold eyes alone warn that the hunter is ready to kill if anyone will try their luck.

After putting his knife aside, he picks several knives from the knife bag.

Without wasting a single second, Akira throws multiple blades at his opponent. However, Shiki instantly reflects the attack by spinning the katana with one hand.

Just before the knives touch the ground, the ebony-haired man turns into the liquid shadow and becomes the panther. Lastly, he dashes at the hunter at full speed.

Unfortunately, Akira had no time to react and crashes into the stone wall. As his back touches the wall, he lets out a gasp and nearly loses consciousness. After his body slides down until it reaches the ground, he can feel warm blood running from his head.

For now, he can only roughly breathe without removing his eyes from Shiki bouncing back and landing on his paws.

Meanwhile, the big feline turns into his formal shape and observes his fallen prey.

It was too quick a victory and, perhaps, a mistake, having high expectations of this human. On the other hand, his blood scent is too good. Or so, Shiki wonders while approaching the hunter.

In the end, he raises the long blade, which reflects the suffering hunter, and swings it at Akira. One sudden cut and…-

Suddenly, the crimson-eyed man is surprised by the sound of clashing metal and the white sparkles around their blades. However, it’s nowhere close to an appealing view as those Akira’s deep blue determined eyes.

As Shiki’s katana slides down, the hunter speaks up ‘‘I’m not done yet! Nor you’ll kill me that easy.’’.

It only makes the nocturnal creature curve a smile on his face ‘‘Hmph. Then, get up and entertain me more, vampire killer.’’. And thus, with these words, Shiki places his hand to reveal the side behind his long coat. After removing the attached katana from the belt, he tosses it at Akira.

Even if the silver-haired man catches it in his hands and briefly studies it, he gives a suspicious look while shakily standing up.

‘‘You shouldn’t give your weapon to the enemy.’’ The hunter addresses him, reveals the naked blade, and points it at its previous owner ‘‘Unless you want to fall under your own blade.’’.

However, from the hunter’s battle stance alone, Shiki can see that his opponent is not used to holding a sword. Although, the nocturnal creature admires Akira’s fighting spirit.

Like the previous time, the silver-haired man makes the first move and unleashes the powerful slash.

Lower guard, upper guard, mixed guard - the ebony-haired man gracefully blocks each strike. It’s already clear that this foolish human won’t last long with such aggressive thrusting and heavy strikes.

Nevertheless, he admits the hunter’s stubbornness is amazing despite the lack of practice.

Suddenly, even Shiki widens his eyes as he feels the blade touching his face and the red liquid running down his cheek. Yet, as soon as the cut appears, it fades in seconds.

Just as the nocturnal creature wipes the old blood with his gloved hand, his instincts quickly act.

He blocks the hunter’s diagonal slash. As the snow-white sparkles cover their touching blade, Shiki’s eyes glow in rising excitement. Lastly, he pushes his opponent’s sword.

For sure, even a millisecond of being dumbfounded costs Akira a lot. Suddenly, he receives a strong kick into the stomach.

As he harshly hits the ground, he lets out a painful groan.

Despite Akira being on the verge of death when Shiki slowly approaches him with the lowered katana, which thirsts for his blood, he remembers the cross on his neck.

For now, all he needs is to distract the man in front of him, even for a moment. While the blue-eyed hunter leans on his elbow, he picks up the remaining knives in the bag.

After Akira closes his eyes and tightly grasps the last blades between his fingers, he hopes for the best. It doesn’t matter if he won’t hurt his opponent or not - all it matters is to buy time.

As he opens his eyes, the hunter throws his weapons at Shiki, who instantly reflected his attack. In the end, Akira grasps the cross around his chest and shouts at the top of his lungs ‘‘GRAND CROSS!’’.

However, as Shiki remains standing, he remains unaffected. For now, he only raises his eye-brow and stares at his foe.

In the end, Akira widens his eyes and opens his mouth. Even through his trembling lips, he speaks up in a barely hearable voice ‘‘Shit… Did I do anything wrong? Why did it fail?’’.

Finally, the crimson-eyed man stands in front of him. While the tip of the katana is close to his throat, Akira stares at the victor of the fight.

‘‘What’s this?’’ Shiki asks as his blade traces down the hunter’s neck. After it lifts the silver cross, he continues remarking ‘‘So, this is on what you rely to save you? Tsk. What a waste of time.’’.

Lastly, the silver-haired hunter briefly gasps as the silver necklace is torn by his enemy’s blade.

After the ringing sound of fallen jewelry, the red-eyed man allows his katana to rest in a sheath. When he kneels closely to Akira, he grabs him by his t-shirt. However, he smirks as the hunter places his hands and grasps his holding hand.

‘‘Do you still resist even if you know you’ll die?’’ Shiki addresses his target. For now, noticing how behind these deep blue eyes, the furious flame dances entertains the nocturnal creature.

‘‘The hell with you!’’ Akira backfires through a groaning voice. Lastly, he gathers his remaining strength for his final attack.

Unfortunately, his sent kick to the side is instantly ceased by Shiki catching the leg.

While the nocturnal creature holds his shank, he comments ‘‘Good. It wouldn't be interesting if you don’t struggle.’’. However, he releases this limb after smelling the hunter’s strong scent of his blood.

Even during their battle, Shiki could sense it, but he believed maybe it was all in his mind.

That scent is too tempting that Shiki’s eyes glow even brighter, and he feels how a pair of sharp fangs touch his lips. But not now - it’s too early to taste the hunter’s blood.

Besides, if he sinks his fangs into Akira’s neck, it won’t taste as good as when he would give it by himself.

Meanwhile, Akira is in shock after the sudden revelation ‘‘It can’t be true… You are… Shiki… Are you a vampire?’’.

‘‘You only realized this now? Hmph. It doesn’t matter. You’re going with me~’’ The vampire replies to him in a nearly purring voice while ignoring his question.

Of course, such an answer is not promising, nor does not know what awaits him next concerning the hunter. That’s why he has to know what the red-eyed feline has prepared for him ‘‘Wait! What do mean?-’’.

Yet, he couldn’t finish his question when Shiki places one arm under his shoulders and another - under his thighs.

More importantly, the silver-haired hunter has to check that he won’t fall from the arrogant vampire’s arms.

In the end, he understands that no matter what he might say, his words won’t reach the nocturnal creature, who will act as he wishes.

Even when he is being lifted and carried like a wounded princess, he has to figure out how to leave this place.

But for now, after opening the door, they leave the master room.

Of course, the hunter wonders how long and where he is taken. Yet, his further thoughts are interrupted as Shiki jumps off the edge.

‘Does this fool tries to kill me?’ Or so, Akira thinks as he tightly holds into the reckless red-eyed man.

As these two are falling down, the silver-haired hunter closes his eyes.

Soon enough, the vampire safely lands as the feline while making sure that his prey is also unharmed.

For sure, that indignant look on his face is excellent proof that this human is fine. ‘‘What is it? Be grateful because I decided to take a shortcut.’’ Or so, Shiki replies.

While the crimson moonlight enlightens their path, Akira observes the new surroundings. From what he notices, he can tell that it appears to be a courtyard, separated from the outer world.

More so, unlike the top floor, it's not snowing. Another detail that catches his eye is the giant fountain in the center of this area, which is decorated with various statues of the ancient gods, and on top of it, the golden statue of the goddess that proudly raised a sword and spread wings.

Perhaps even someone like Count Il Re is chilling out near the fountain and enjoys the calming sound of streaming water.

However, the blue-eyed hunter almost gasps at how the crystal-clear water dyes in the crimson and eventually turns into blood as they pass the fountain.

Is it the dark ruler’s mercilessly slain victims and a reminder of his cruel and bloodthirsty nature and great power? Or is it the wicked magic of this castle to scare away the wanderers?

But for now, Akira knows he shouldn’t let his guard off and wait as much as needed until Shiki rests. Then, it will be a perfect chance to steal his weapon and run away.

After a while, this couple reaches the large wooden gate. Lastly, the vampire opens the door, and both enter this building.

Some time passed. After arriving at the bedroom, Shiki drops Akira on the double-sized bed and gives a brief command ‘‘Undress.’’.

Yet, the blue-eyed hunter only half lies and dumbfounded stares ‘‘Huh?’’.

‘‘Did I stutter? You’re staying here. Or do you need help with that?’’ The vampire adds as he places his knee on the bed and leans closer to Akira.

‘‘Stay away!’’ The hunter warns as he launches a fist.

However, Shiki instantly catches and grasps it while his gaze remains calm. For now, he cracks a smile ‘‘When did you grow this bold to object? Aren’t you afraid your hand will dry and fall off by hurting your owner?’’.

Meanwhile, Akira grids his teeth and uses his chance to grab the nocturnal creature’s weapon.

Surprisingly, the owner of it doesn’t mind it and even releases his hand. After with-drawing, the vampire waits for how this human will act.

Instead of pointing the blade at Shiki, it is close to the hunter’s neck ‘‘Who told you that I’ll submit to the creature of the night, who acts like nothing but a spoiled cat? I’ll rather die than bow before you!’’. Without removing his eyes from Shiki, Akira adds ‘‘It’s too bad that you thought you use me as a toy or your food. Good luck cleaning this!’’.

Just as he closes his eyes and is about to slice his throat, he cannot move the katana as it is stuck.

After the hunter opens his eyes, he is shocked to see that Shiki grasps the naked blade and retrieves it ‘‘Hmph. Are you still going to act though? Fine. I’ll see how long it takes for you to realize your place.’’.

When the dark-haired man leaves the bed and is about to leave, he turns his head ‘‘You better get rid of that coat because you are no longer a hunter.’’.

However, he is stopped by the hunter’s voice ‘‘Wait! Aren’t you concerned that if you turn your back even for a second, I’ll try to kill myself?’’.

For sure, hearing such a question makes the vampire chuckle ‘‘Hmph. Then, I’ll resurrect you as many times as I need to.’’.

And thus, the crimson-eyed man leaves the room and locks the hunter. For now, he needs to give Akira some time to cool down and allow him to realize that it’s pointless to escape.

Meanwhile, even if Akira knows that his effort will be useless, he bangs on the door and demands to be released. After receiving no answers, the poor hunter falls to his knees and punches the ground as hard as he can ‘‘Shit…’’.

However, despite his aching body and hurt pride as a hunter, he is determined to make the vampire go through the same pain and humiliation once he restores his strength.

Some time passed. Shiki finally unlocks the door and enters while carrying the first aid kit. Yet, when he notices Akira, who not only did what he was told to but also seems to fell asleep already while he is curled into a ball.

After the red-eyed man sits on the bed, he silently observes the slumbering human. Perhaps, for tonight, he would allow him to peacefully rest.
