A week has passed since Shiro’s training began.
And the gray-haired young man already shows significant results compared to the first day he was brought here.
That’s right, from volunteering to perform the basic tasks, such as cleaning the office or running errands, to navigate without becoming lost.
However, Captain Akira still does not allow him to do the paperwork and only lets him observe.
‘So, the captain still doesn’t trust me enough yet?’ Shiro wonders as he closes his eyes and sighs while hugging the documents.
“However, I wonder what Akira-san could mean by wanting to show me something important.” The gray-eyed secretary murmurs as he picks up a silver pocket watch.
After checking the time and closing the watch, he adds. “In any case, I have to hurry and let him review these papers first.”
But for now, Shiro heads to Akira’s office.
Some time has passed.
After a long walk in the corridor, a couple of secretaries arrive at the iron gate, which Shiro has never seen before.
For some reason, his guts telling him he should turn back and leave.
Despite that, before opening the gate, Akira turns his head and addresses him. “Let’s go.”
No matter how Shiro doesn’t want to go, he understands that he will only get scolded by his senior if he objects.
After he lowers his gaze, he nods. “Yes.”
Even upon entering and taking the first steps into the staircase to the basement, Shiro is already tense.
Just when he thought nothing will beat the intense and cold atmosphere of the office building, he is proven wrong again.
At least by a miracle, Shiro eventually got used to working there as if it was any other job he could imagine.
More importantly, he could still see the daylight and the life on the surface through the office windows and feel like he was in the living world.
However, as he stares into cold, gray concrete walls lighten up with naked light bulbs, he feels like going closer to the gateway to the netherworld.
At this point, it is difficult for him to distinguish which is louder - his heartbeat or the echoing footsteps.
More so, Shiro cannot comprehend how Akira is unaffected by the unwelcoming atmosphere.
‘Perhaps it’s only in my mind. What if the captain only wants me to show me where is the archive? That’s right, there shouldn’t be any reason to be afraid, right?’ Shiro ponders while shrugging and staying close to the military secretary.
After this couple reaches the end, a metal bar door greets them.
When the younger secretary takes a step back, he lands on his bottom and whimpers.
For sure, it makes Akira to turn his head. After he closes his blue eyes, he sighs. “Please be careful.”
While Shiro rests his palms on the stone stairs and tries to get up, he asks. “Sir, where are you taking me? Please… I didn’t do anything wrong. Even if I did, please forgive me!”
Yet, Akira only facepalms and backfires in his usual calm voice. “What are you talking about? If you are going to change me temporarily, then I must prepare you so that you won’t get confused, even for this task.”
As the reserved secretary opens the door, Shiro nods. “Yes…”
Suddenly, the gray-haired male straightens his back upon the door closing behind him.
He follows the military secretary down the dark corridor, feeling goosebumps from the chill air.
More so, the only noise that kills the eery silence is their footsteps. At some point, Shiro can even swear that he can sense the Death itself walking beside them.
Upon reaching the end of the corridor, the gray-eyed secretary notices a pair of guards stationed to the left, standing watch over a secured door.
Even if they are standing still without a single movement, he understands that a single wrong gesture or breath and these men may kill anyone in sight.
‘Just what kind of place is this?’ Shiro ponders.
When Akira approaches the security guards, they salute the military secretary. After they move aside, they open door the door and nod.
Without further ado, he places his hand behind Shiro’s back and gently pushes him forward.
Of course, the gray-eyed secretary has no time for hesitation and enters the protected room.
There’s so little light that only the closing door gap illuminates the room. Even so, they are not alone.
The sound of the rustling chains and the faith moaning with the weak breathing of someone already gives bad shivers down his spine.
Yet, upon the clicking switch, this place lightens up, revealing its form.
Suddenly, Shiro widens his eyes.
As he shakily covers his mouth with his gloved palm, he whispers while leaning against the wall near the exit door that supports his body. “Goodness, gracious me… Where am I?”
Apparently, there is a man in chains wearing torn clothes that resemble the uniform of the recently formed rebel organization. Even through the holes in his tattered outfit, there are visible bruises.
Yet, he shows no signs of life and keeps his hung head.
Meanwhile, Akira walks towards the wrapped water hose hung on the wall.
After the military secretary takes it into his hands and aims at the prisoner, he gazes at Shiro with his ice-cold blue eyes. “Come here.”
Of course, the gray-eyed male’s fear has overtaken his frozen body. However, even in such a state, he knows he is not in a position to disobey Captain Akira.
Shiro heard the talk among the soldiers or even high-ranked generals about how those who dared not follow Akira’s orders or hurt him may face the commander’s merciless judgment.
He also heard Shiki’s personal secretary might be secretly in charge and using the commander as his puppet while whispering to him how to run a country. However, that is only an unproven rumor.
Besides, Shiro noticed the captain is the only person who is not afraid of Shiki while genially believing in him or has never questioned his decisions.
Either way, the gray-eyed secretary forces himself to approach his senior.
After he gets close to the level, he grips it. Unfortunately, no matter how hard he tries to move, it remains still.
“Sir, it stuck. It… it doesn’t move, no matter what I do.” Shiro explains while placing his foot on the wall for a better grip.
Meanwhile, Akira closes his eyes and sighs. “You are turning in the wrong direction.”
“I… I see!” the younger secretary responds.
Soon enough, a powerful stream of freezing water splashes at the prisoner and makes him scream in pain.
“It’s enough. Turn it off!” The military secretary orders him.
This time, Shiro manages to turn off the hose in seconds.
But for now, he lowers his arms and shakes his hands.
Yet, he immediately fixes his posture upon Akira’s strict voice. “You’re finally waking up? Good.”
As the soaked man trembles like a leaf, he closes his eyes and begs. “Please forgive me! I do not know anything! I AM INNOCENT, I SWEAR!”
After Akira tosses the water hose, he backfires while keeping his stoic demeanor. “Is this all you have to say?”
A second later, he turns his head toward Shiro. “Do you see the tool table over there? Please bring me the bullwhip.”
“Y-yes, sir!” The gray-eyed secretary nods and rushes to the end of the room.
Even so, Shiro is confused by such a variety of weaponry. Also, who knows what else is hidden in these rusty metal drawers?
When he picks the first weapon in sight, he hopes that this is what the captain wants.
After he handles a black leather whip, Akira silently nods and asks him while pointing at the exhausted prisoner. “Before we begin, what’s this?”
Shiro gives a questioning look. “Eh?… I don’t quite understand your question, sir.”
However, Akira only closes his eyes and crosses his arms.
After a brief pause, the gray-haired secretary clenches his palms into fists and answers. “Er, a rebel?”
Suddenly, he receives a slap across his face and the captain’s unfriendly reply. “Wrong.”
While Shiro carefully touches his hurt cheek, he nervously bites his lower lip and gives another answer. “A criminal?”
Once again, the room echoes with another harsh hit and Akira’s calm voice. “Try again.”
For now, Shiro shakily closes his eyes and shrugs. “A very bad person?”
Akira only exhales and politely asks. “Is there any other person among us? Please show me because I don’t see anybody aside from us.”
At that moment, Shiro can feel how tense his body is.
However, just as he lifts his arm and points at the chained struggling man, he nearly jumps from the same spot by the cracking whip and that man whimpering.
A second later, Akira scolds the prisoner. “Did you get permission to speak? No? So, stay quiet.”
“S-sir, don’t you think that is too much?” the gray-eyed male asks after nervously swallowing the saliva.
“What are you talking about? Shiro, let me ask you something - what will you do if your crops are being destroyed by the bugs?”
After briefly lowering his gaze, he lifts his gray eyes and replies. “… I would get rid of them or hire who could do it for me, sir.”
“Correct. So, what is the difference between a pest and that man?” Akira speaks and stretches the whip.
Yet, Shiro objects. “But, sir, he is a living person even if he did something wrong.”
In the end, Akira patiently explains. “Wrong. Both are nothing more than insects. One by its nature, while the other one by going against the commander and committing severe crimes. That’s why you should crush them without feeling bad for them. Do insects scream in pain when you kill them? So, let them be while you eliminate these parasites one by one.”
But for now, the blue-eyed secretary adds. “Stand back. As the secretary of the most powerful man in the country, you should never taint your white gloves or uniform with insects fluids.”
After Shiro takes a few steps back, he covers his ears and closes his eyes.
When Akira notices his subordinate’s cowardly behavior, he narrows his gaze. “So, this is how it is…”
Lastly, he approaches the exit door and leaves the room while carrying his trustworthy weapon.
At that moment, Shiro is left alone in the room with a suffering man without knowing what the captain has planned.
Soon, Akira returns. However, he is not alone.
Apparently, the same security guards are behind his back.
After he turns his head, he briefly orders them. “Hold him and make sure that he won’t look away.”.
The guards only nod in synchronicity and follow the command. “Yes, sir.”
Shiro gasps as one man presses his body against him and locks his arms, making sure that he won’t escape.
Such a raw force scares the gray-eyed male, but he understands he cannot fight back on well-trained soldiers.
But for now, as another guard grasps his face and lifts his head, Shiro cannot turn his head.
Lastly, his heart drops to his heels upon hearing Akira’s impersonal voice before he cracks the whip. “Please watch carefully how you should treat the insects.”
Just the sound of the cutting flesh and the prisoner’s screams and cries for help already makes Shiro shiver.
No matter how he instinctively attempts to close his eyes or at least turn his head away, he is forced to witness how the whip gracefully dances in Akira’s hand and tears the prisoner’s skin.
When the gray-eyed male shakily breathes, his skin becomes as pale as a sheet of paper.
Soon, Shiro barely holds back from gagging and throwing out as the piece of the tortured prisoner’s piece of flesh hits the floor.
However, he swallows back the vomit instead of throwing it out and dirtying his and soldiers’ uniforms.
It’s disgusting. It’s wrong. How and why humans are so cruel to each other? Even wild predators are more humane to their caught prey. So, why? Why?! Shiro wonders while doing his best not to cry and feeling the acidic after-taste in his mouth.
Eventually, he cannot remove his eyes from the messed-up view in front of him.
At this point, it’s like watching an awful train wreck. Both are terrifying things, but you are so helpless that all you can do is stare.
In this case, dealing with death and deciding who is guilty and who is not is just a part of the gray routine in the military office.
Even the guards that keep Shiro in his place to observe the captain delivering the punishment to the rebel, as it is nothing new to them.
And these are the same men and women who, after a long day, return to their homes and leave their uniform, can laugh and hug their loved ones, and live an average life like they do not commit these atrocities against humanity… The gray-haired male realizes.
More importantly, the people cherish and respect the military as their heroes because they only see them as protectors of the country, giving them a fake sense of security, without realizing that behind the neat and glamorous uniform, they act like demons.
It’s cruel. However, there is nothing that Shiro can do about this corrupted system nor overturn the ruthless regime.
After all, it’s already decided for him that he is nothing more than another cog in the machine that must live up to someone’s ideals. Shiro thinks as he watches Akira pick his sword from the sheath and cut the prisoner’s life thread.
Some time has passed.
Even after leaving the basement floor, Shiro still cannot comprehend what he had to witness.
But for now, the gray-eyed male finishes washing his face with lukewarm tap water.
As he stares into his reflection in the bathroom mirror, he wipes his face and notices how slightly the colors have returned to his cheeks.
However, that distant gaze in his empty eyes and pale skin remains.
After Shiro closes his eyes and slaps his cheeks, he convinces himself to hurry. After all, he doesn’t want to make the captain wait.
After a while, a couple of secretaries are on their way to the library.
However, only the military secretary’s hit on his head returns Shiro to his senses.
“Please pay attention. Do you know who is in front of you?” Akira reminds him as he slightly frowns.
A second later, the military secretary turns to the commander. After he closes his blue eyes, he lowers his head. “Please excuse me for my disciple’s behavior, sir.”
Yet, Shiro lowers his gaze and murmurs. “I’m sorry…”
Meanwhile, Shiki studies the spacing young man and cracks a smile.
A second later, he addresses his loyal subordinate. “He looks different today. What did you do?”
While Akira keeps his straight back, he honestly responds. “I’ve shown him how he should deal with anyone who dares to go against you, sir.”
“Why?” the commander raises his eyebrow.
Just before the blue-eyed secretary opens his mouth, Shiki interrupts him. “I’ve asked you to train to become your substitute, isn’t it?”
“That’s right! And today I’ve only introduced one of his future duties, sir.” Akira immediately answers.
Yet, the dark-haired male only crosses his arms. “I’m asking you again - Why?”
At first, such a question briefly confused Akira, yet he confesses. “To reduce as much as possible the workload for you if I won’t be able to be by your side. You already carry too much responsibility on your shoulders. That’s why I must prepare someone worthy to serve you.”
These words spark Shiki’s crimson eyes with excitement, but he keeps a proud face while stepping closer to his subordinate. “Hmph. Is that so?”
As he keeps his arms behind his back, he adds. “Are you doubting my power?”
Akira only shakes his head. “No, sir.”
After a brief pause, he places his palm around his heart area and explains with a firm determination. “However, it’s my duty to prepare him for all situations and not to embarrass you by his lack of skills or improper behavior. I know it might be selfish of me. How else I will rest at night by knowing that I didn’t give my best to train him to assist you any time?”
Meanwhile, Shiro silently exhales while holding his arm.
So, does being humane and valuing human life count as a weakness and a bother? The gray-eyed secretary wonders.
In the end, he realizes that he may disappoint Akira by fearing to raise his hand against anybody and not being an excellent secretary. Shiro thinks as he closes his eyes.
But for now, Shiki keeps his poker face. While he holds his chin, he narrows his gaze. “Is that the only thing that concerns you?”
At that moment, Akira loses the gift of speech.
Yet, the commander places his palms on his subordinate’s shoulders.
Such a gesture makes the military secretary widen his blue eyes.
However, he only listens to the reassuring words. “You worry too much. If you won’t be able to carry on your duties, I’ll personally punish anyone who dare to stand in my way. I asked you only to prepare a substitute secretary that will assist me. Nothing more, nothing less.”
As Akira softens his gaze, he nods. “I understand.”
Meanwhile, Shiro only listens to their conversation. Right now, he even lifts his head and hopefully stares at them.
Yet, he isn’t sure if he should be grateful for the commander willing to take this task or feel guilty for exposing his weak side.
Either way, it is still a miracle that he was spared again.
Even if he might not directly inflict damage or kill people, working on the documents may still decide who may or may not live.
Despite that, knowing that he won’t need to see anyone suffering or stain his hands, strangely relieved Shiro as a huge boulder was pushed from his chest.
Lastly, Shiki removes his hands from Akira’s shoulders and addresses him. “Either way, I’ll wait for you in my office.”
As his gaze moves toward Shiro, he orders the younger secretary. “And you. You are dismissed for today.”
“Y-yes, sir!” the gray-eyed male responds. Just before leaving, he bows while checking that his cap won’t fall this time.
A month has passed.
Finally, the important meeting is over, and Shiro can deliver revisited documents to the commander.
However, on his way to the commander’s office, he nearly drops the papers upon noticing Shiki carrying Akira in his arms like a wounded princess and rapidly approaching him.
After taking a better look, the first thing that catches Shiro’s eye is the knife inside the captain’s shoulder and how his uniform jacket slowly soaks in blood.
When Akira shakily grasps around the stabbed area, his chest shakily bloats, and he painfully narrows his gaze.
Lastly, he closes his blue eyes and turns his head away.
Meanwhile, it’s the first time Shiro sees the preserved military secretary in such a state.
Who could do this to him, and how it happened? It can’t be the commander’s work, can it? The gray-haired secretary wonders.
However, his further thoughts are interrupted by Shiki’s strict orders. “Why are you standing here? Fetch medical assistance and summon whoever can attend to wounds to my office, and tell them to escort the traitor to the interrogation room. Immediately!”
Without a second thought, Shiro responds. “Yes!”
Thus, even if he dropped the documents, he ran without knowing where.
As long as he meets anyone soon, that should only matter.
Eventually, Shiro bumps into one of the officers’ back. However, instead of apologizing, he tries to briefly explain the current situation without sounding too nervous to these men.
Fortunately for him, they understand the gray-eyed secretary and act quickly.
A day has passed.
Shiro finally learns that it was a rookie soldier around his age who was responsible for yesterday’s incident.
Apparently, that young man has managed to break into the commander’s locked office. However, his assassination attempt has failed, and Commander Shiki will execute him today.
Meanwhile, the gray-haired secretary still cannot get over how it sounds surreal.
However, he is still Akira’s substitute until he gets well and can serve the ruthless ruler.
Fortunately, unlike the previous time, he has gained a lot of valuable experience from Akira. But he also has higher expectations from Shiki.
Yet Shiro understands better than anyone else that he has no right to refuse but to fulfill his duties.
Besides, he is already a part of this ruthless military. So, he has no choice but to continue living it and never return from where he came from.
After all, upon taking his first steps into the military office, Shiro has already died as an average citizen, a student, a friend, and a son.
Even if he isn’t wearing his uniform, he will still be seen as a military member serving the most powerful person in the country.
In the end, Shiro fixes his cap and uniform before continuing his duties.

Another day passes.
After Shiro receives the permission, he enters Captain Akira’s office without knowing what to expect.
To his surprise, the preserved military secretary politely greets him and even offers to take a seat.
Without a second thought, the gray-eyed male nods.
When he picks the nearest chair, he brings it in front of Akira’s desk.
After Shiro sits, he straightens his back while keeping his clenched hands on his lap.
Meanwhile, Akira doesn’t remove his eyes from the supposed-to-be replacement.
There is simply something off about him he doesn’t like, but he cannot put his finger on it. The blue-eyed secretary thinks while narrowing his gaze.
What does the commander think of picking an inexperienced fellow who is not suitable even for the most basic manual labor? The military secretary wonders.
It may have been nothing more than another decision by Shiki, which he made on a whim. It can’t be otherwise, right? The blue-eyed male ponders after narrowing his gaze and almost making his colleague jump from his seat.
Besides, he knows the commander better than anyone else. So, there is no way he would pick a secretary based on his looks or other unrelated traits. Akira thinks to himself while hiding the rising unexplained irritation towards Shiro behind his poker face.
Yet Akira’s suspicious intuition tells him that something is not right about his new colleague.
Despite that, he has to overcome these irrational emotions and aim for no less than perfection and be praised by Shiki.
More importantly, it would be wrong to judge anyone without knowing them well, or at least their background and true intentions. Or so the preserved military secretary convinces himself.
Suddenly, his further thoughts are interrupted by Shiro’s slightly shaky voice. “Excuse me. Is there anything wrong, sir?”
At that moment, Akira only closes his eyes and takes a breath.
After he opens his eyes, he answers. “Do not pay attention to it. It’s nothing important.”
Nevertheless, the blue-eyed male let his curiosity win.
After a brief pause, Akira opens his mouth to ask. “In any case… Before we begin, I need to ask you something. What exactly were your duties when I was gone?”
At first, Shiro is confused, but a second later, he confesses. “Um, the commander asked me to do is to keep his office clean, prepare him tea, and stay quiet during the meetings. That’s all.”
After hearing such an answer, the blue-eyed secretary covers his mouth and turns his head away. He even clenches his gloved palm while he slightly frowns and silently exhales.
It is upsetting to hear that the commander is burying himself in more work, if not doing all the work alone, with no one taking care of him.
On the other hand, Akira doesn’t want to allow himself to vent his frustrations on some newbie and disappoint Shiki by recklessly lashing out and not handling it like a professional.
Yet, Shiro’s concerned voice makes him widen his eyes and turn back. “Did… Did I say anything wrong, sir? I… I didn’t mean to upset you.”
Soon, Akira straightens his back and sits back while keeping his serious face. “Either way, do you know why did I called you?”
The younger secretary only shakes his head.
When Akira places his entwined palms on his desk, he explains. “Today, we will start with the basics and I will introduce you to your future routine.”
After he stands up gracefully and takes the papers in his hand, he leaves the desk side and adds. “For today, you will be only foreshadowing me. If you have any questions, do not hesitate to ask me. Is that clear?”
“Y-yes. I understand!” Shiro responds immediately.
It might not be a simple task to train someone like him.
On the other hand, there must be something about this young man if the commander decides to keep him alive. Therefore, it shouldn’t be even a word impossible for him.
Otherwise, the commander’s hair may become gray hair instantly, and his well-being, if not his life, will be threatened. Akira thinks to himself while he keeps the documents close to him.
But for now, he decides to take this as Shiki’s thrown challenge that he cannot lose.
Therefore, he is determined to take this unskilled young man under his wing and train him to become a flawless secretary who will serve the most powerful man in the country.
In the end, Akira prompts the younger secretary to follow him.
After leaving the office, Shiro’s intense training begins.
Unfortunately, the very little that Shiro knows is that Shiki’s personal secretary will not go easy on him.
As time passed, Shiro carefully observed and followed his mentor without leaving his side.
It is impressive to see how Captain Akira, despite his serious demeanor, respects and cares for his squad. Thus, the younger secretary slowly starts admiring him.
More so, his men are not indifferent toward him and follow his every command without questioning him or fear.
Despite Akira’s strict disciplinary methods and not wasting time, even on unnecessary words or actions, his squad trusts him enough to ask him anything and receive brief but precise answers or advice.
Will this be a part of his duties someday?
After all, it’s a challenging task to not only manage that many people but also make them listen to you.
Besides, it might be impossible to handle it alone for someone like Shiro. Not just when he feels that many eyes on him, staring at him like someone who doesn’t belong here or is as confused as he is.
More importantly, even by Akira’s side, he feels nervous that he wants to hide behind his back. So, how will he manage without the military secretary’s guidance? Shiro wonders.
But for now, Akira prompts him to move to further tasks.
Some time has passed. Finally, it is almost time to serve the afternoon tea and snacks.
That is the most basic thing that he can do well despite yesterday’s incident. Shiro assumes as they both head toward the kitchen.
Even in this case, Akira proves him wrong again.
The military secretary not only demonstrates but also explains the proper techniques for brewing coffee or preparing tea.
As Akira places the teapot with a couple of cups and snacks on the silver tray, he is interrupted by Shiro. “Um, wouldn’t be much simpler just to boil the kettle and to wait for a few minutes? It would save some time and it may just taste the same.”
“Wouldn’t be much easier for you to drink from the puddle? The water is water, right?” the military secretary turns his head while balancing the tray.
A second later, he adds in a slightly irritated voice. “Hopefully, you haven’t prepared tea or coffee in such a primitive way and served it to the commander, did you?”
Meanwhile, Shiro only shrugs while avoiding facing his mentor without being sure what to say.
Just before opening the door and leaving, Akira nags at him while trying to remain patient. “I have no interest in how you prepare for yourself. You can do it like you wish.”
After leaving the kitchen and heading towards Shiki’s office, the military secretary lectures his disciple. “However, you must keep in mind that you are serving for the most important person in the country. That’s why you have to aim for perfection and put all your heart into any given task and believe what you’re doing.”
Within each of Akira’s spoken words, his given speech becomes more passionate.
But for now, he closes his blue eyes and respires.
After a brief pause, Shiki’s loyal subordinate continues. “Otherwise, you will only disappoint yourself and the commander by your half-baked work. More importantly, if you prioritize the commander’s well-being and his satisfaction, and respect him, he will notice your effort and you won’t be unrewarded.”
As he finishes his speech, he turns to Shiro’s side. “Hey, are you even listening to me?”
“Y-yes…” the gray-eyed male immediately responds.
The very little that they knew was that Shiki was listening to them just around the corner and delighted not just by Akira’s words but at how he expressed them.
Nevertheless, instead of approaching his personal secretary, he heads to his office and waits for him to show up.
Besides, he will spoil his precious prized possession with attention in private as soon as he dismisses the unwanted company for today. The military tyrant reminds himself while keeping a smug look on his face.
Soon enough, a couple of secretaries reach Shiki’s office.
When Akira straightens his back, he knocks on the door. “Sorry for intruding. I’ve brought you tea, sir. May I come in, please?”
After receiving the permission, he opens the door without making the content of the entire tray shake.
A second later, Shiro understands he should follow his mentor even if he prefers to stay away from the commander, sensing that his presence might be unnecessary.
After Akira closes the door behind them, Shiki’s question makes him lift his head. “What is he doing here?”
“I beg your pardon, sir. Starting today, Shiro is foreshadowing me before he is ready to work,” the military secretary explains.
When he gets closer and places the tray with the afternoon treats on the commander’s desk, he adds while keeping a poker face. “That’s why I need also to show him how to properly to serve and help you to relax, sir.”
While the silver-haired secretary fills his cup, Shiki closes his eyes and raises his palm. “There is no need for that.”
Akira only lifts his eyes. After he places the teapot on the tray, he listens to the commander. “You are back on duties, correct? So, I don’t need anyone else to do it while you are here.”
Hearing these words surprises the preserved secretary that he momentarily loses the gift of speech.
Meanwhile, Shiro leans his back against the closed door and carefully observes.
Yet, he nearly gets startled when Shiki looks in his direction and addresses him. “You are still here? You can leave now.”
Thus, the gray-eyed young man responds. “Yes, sir!”
Lastly, before leaving, he nods.
The military tyrant is finally able to enjoy the company of his loyal subordinate without any disturbances.
But for now, Shiki addresses him. “And you - are you going to stand like this? Sit down.”
Of course, Akira doesn’t object.
After he brings the chair, he makes himself comfortable.
Before he takes a sip of tea, he comments. “You look so happy today, sir. Did anything good happen?”
While the commander’s crimson eyes sparkle with excitement, he cracks a smile. “Is there anything wrong with having my secretary by on my side again?”
Such an answer makes Akira turn his head and hide his blushing gaze.
However, feeling how Shiki places his palm on his hand and strokes it making the secretary face him.
It seems that the commander even goes further.
After Shiki masterly slides his fingers under his subordinate’s glove and gently runs his fingertips against his skin.
At that moment, Akira realizes he has become this large feline toy again.
More importantly, his poker face cracks, and lets out a lovely sigh while Shiki teases him like this.
For now, the military secretary shakily closes his eyes and speaks up in a softer tone. “Sir, it’s not a time or place for it…”
Unfortunately, his words don’t reach the commander.
Soon, Shiki leans closer and brings his subordinate closer by holding him by his tie.
After such a gesture, Akira opens his big blue eyes, and his heart skips a beat upon noticing how Shiki fixates his strangely sleepy eyes on him.
“Looks like I have to remind you of your place.” The supreme ruler comments as he narrows his gaze.
Just before he pulls his adored secretary into a kiss…
Suddenly, the dark-haired male widens his eyes as Akira brings a pile of papers to separate them.
As the silver-haired male lowers, he lowers his gaze. “I’ll ask you again - did anything happen? Or… ”
After a brief pause, he widens his eyes upon the sudden realization. “Are you upset that I work slower than I supposed to?”
When he stares at Shiki with guilty eyes, he adds. “If that is a case, I’m terribly sorry. And I understand that teaching someone while I have my own duties is not an excuse.”
Lastly, the preserved secretary confesses. “However, I have to make sure that if anything happens that I won’t be able to stay by your side, at least you will have an excellent replacement that you can be proud of. And, of course, if you are in doubt or wish to see my training methods, you can check on me whenever you wish.”
‘How adorable…’ Shiki wonders without removing his crimson eyes from his prize-possession.
After Shiki stands up, he approaches his subordinate gracefully, like a feline.
Meanwhile, Akira only gives him a questioning look. “Sir?”
Instead of saying anything, the ebony-haired male takes his partner’s wrist and pulls him closer.
For now, the military secretary has no choice but to stand up while Shiki wraps his arm around his waist.
Even when Shiki releases his wrist, Akira keeps his thrown arm on his shoulder.
As the commander gently tilts his subordinate’s chin, he stares at him with admiring eyes. “How can you always never fail to amaze me?”
At that moment, the silver-haired male does his best to keep a straight face.
Unfortunately, it’s not a simple task. Not when Akira feels how Shiki has wrapped his invisible panther tail around his thigh.
For now, he impatiently waits for his partner’s next move.
To his surprise, nothing happens.
A few moments later, the commander removes his hand from his face and lifts his cap.
Upon Shiki lands his palm on Akira’s head, he ruffles his hair.
Lastly, he puts on his subordinate’s cap back. “What is it with you? That’s all for now.”
When Akira notices that feline-like smirk, he understands it may not end well.
Thus, Shiki’s hand slides down to his bottom and massages it.
Despite that, he listens to the commander’s sweet words. “... Unless you want something specific. Then you have to state it clearly.”
Instead of giving to this man’s provocation, Akira places his palms on Shiki’s chest and replies. “The break may end soon and you won’t rest again, sir.”
After gently pushing him away, the silver-haired male adds while keeping his demanding eyes on Shiki. “More importantly, you haven’t reviewed the documents that I sent you earlier yet. So, please take it more seriously… It’s all I ask for.”
“Duties before the pleasure, as always...” the dark-haired male murmurs while crossing his arms and holding his chin.
When Akira steps back, Shiki takes a step forward and addresses him. “What if one of your duties would be satisfying your master?”
After a brief pause, he smirks and adds in a suggestive tone. “Will you train your colleague for that as well?”
Meanwhile, Akira lowers his gaze and turns his head while biting his lower lip.
Even the thought of the commander embracing anyone else than him alone hurt him like a knife. Or so the military secretary keeps in his mind while clenching his chest.
After he closes his blue, gloomy eyes, he exhales and lowers his shoulders. “Then do whatever you wish or just kill me here. This is the only order that I will disobey… Even if that is very selfish of me.”
Yet, when he feels how the beloved hand strokes his cheek, he widens his eyes.
When their eyes meet, Akira cannot help himself but feel how the heat rushes to his cheeks.
Shiki softens his gaze and comments in a nearly purring voice. “How are you able to spit such adorable words with this mouth?… Hmph. As if anyone else will satisfy me or is worth standing by my side. Never forget - I’m not interested in not my belongings.”
After he sighs, he continues in a more formal tone. “However, if you insist so badly, you will assist me for the rest of the day. Understand?”
Hearing this answer pushes the heavy boulder from Akira’s chest.
Lastly, the blue-eyed secretary closes his eyes and nods. “Yes.”
Unfortunately, very little does the military secretary realize his disciple may display the results of his hard work sooner than he expects.

After the Resistance soldiers reach the end of the end of the Isolation Unit, they get surrounded by the men in black body armor and stainless steel masks wielding massive laser guns and pointing at them.
When the brunette raises her hands, she addresses these troops. “You can lower your guns. I’m on your side.”
She points with her chin at Iori without removing her eyes from the armed soldiers. “All I’m here for is to bring this man to my dad.”
While the troops focus on their targets, Kyoko lowers her hands and adds. “He works here. Does the name Professor Iriyu Kurama says anything to you? So, you have no reason to treat us like this.”
For now, the redhead addresses his partner while he lowers his blade. “You’re wasting your breath… Cover my back.”
Lastly, without hesitation, Iori charges at the enemy.
As the countless bullets fly at Yagami, he reflects on each one by spinning his trustworthy weapon and sending it back to his opponents.
When he gets close enough, he stabs and slashes in half the nearest man.
Meanwhile, Kyoko picks up the handheld gun and blasts whoever aims at them.
Soon enough, the fierce battle is over. After wiping the blood from his face with his uniform sleeve, Iori approaches his battle partner.
However, when he reaches the metal door and is about to slash it, Kyoko’s voice stops him. “Wait! Dad’s office is here. So, we don’t need to go any further.”
“I don’t care about him. We’ll get your original first. Then, that fool.” The redhead backfires without looking back.
After Yagami unleashes a couple of stronger attacks to destroy the door, he briefly orders. “Follow me. Or do you want to wait here until more of these guys show up?”
At this point, the brunette has no choice but to follow the stubborn soldier. “It can’t be helped that I need to protect you until we find Dad.”
Unfortunately, another wave of the NESTS troops already greets them.
Meanwhile, Iori only cracks a smile and mockingly comments. “Oh~ Looks like you want to go to hell that badly. Fine. I’ll send you there.”
Some time has passed. After rushing through the endless corridors and defeating countless enemies, they reached the deeper level of NESTS.
Judging from the endless rows of half-empty rooms enclosed by thick glass doors, this place resembles a prison where unfortunate souls await their death sentences.
After wandering for a long time, Iori freezes in the same spot near one room and widens his eyes.
Apparently, one familiar-looking person catches his eye.
Even the sense of time and place disappears for Iori, and all he can do is stare in disbelief at this male as if he saw a living ghost.
Heck, thousands of emotions that the redhead could not understand, nor did he know he had rushed to him.
Apparently, the Kusanagi sits on the bed, leaning against the corner, staring into nothingness while his arms are restrained with chains.
However, the redhead doesn’t realize that anyone sitting behind the glass door cannot see what is going on outside.
Right now, he can only speak up in a quiet, shaky voice and press his palm on the glass door. “... Kyo.”
Lastly, the brunette faces the door.
When their eyes meet, Yagami’s heart skips a beat.
Despite starting with his empty and tired eyes, Kyo doesn’t react to the person behind the door. A few seconds later, he turns his head away and lowers it, sinking deeper into the darkness.
For sure, it makes Iori shakily clench his palms into fists and lower his head while grinding his teeth.
However, he isn’t heartbroken and frustrated because of traveling across the universe just to get ignored by Kyo.
No. Iori is not certain whether he should be mad at himself or whoever has broken Kyo to such a degree that he cannot recognize his long-time mission partner as turning him into nothing but a shell of his former self.
Suddenly, Iori hits the door as hard as he can and continues doing so while calling the Kusanagi’s name.
At the moment, even Kyoko steps back while observing this from a distance.
Meanwhile, the imprisoned brunette gets alerted and looks in the direction of the banging.
Even if he cannot see behind the white door, he immediately recognizes to whom belongs that familiar voice that struck like thunder from the clear sky.
Despite being confused about whether it is just a hallucination, Kyo carefully stands up while facing the door. “Ya… Yagami?”
A second later, the banging ceases, and the redhead addresses him. “Stay where you are! I’m coming for you!”
Thus, with the sound of scratching the surface, the saber blade penetrates the door and cuts it into pieces.
After Iori enters the cell, he calls the Kusanagi’s name. “Kyo!”
As the brunette barely comprehends the view in front of him, he asks in an unsure tone. “Yagami… What. What are you doing here?”
“It’s you! It’s really you,” Iori says while containing his emotions.
When he approaches Kyo, he instinctively wraps his arms around him, refusing to let him go.
For sure, such a gesture surprises the Kusanagi. After all, it’s the first time when his partner so openly shows any affection.
But for now, while Yagami’s trembling body is pressed against his, he can feel how his hug tightens.
In the end, Iori closes his eyes and whispers. “You’re… you’re alive. Thank the fucking goodness, I’ve finally found you.”
When Kyo notices another person standing behind the redhead curiously observing them, he gives a questioning look.
As Kyoko gets close to this couple, she speaks up in an unsure voice. “Nii-sama? Er, I mean… So, you’re the original?”
Finally, when Iori releases the Kusanagi from the hug, he holds his shoulders and explains in a calm tone. “We need to get out of here.”
However, he suspiciously narrows his gaze upon noticing a strange black collar around Kyo’s neck. “What a hell is this?”
Just before he touches it, a strict voice behind them interrupts them. “Stay away from him!”
Apparently, it’s a fluffy silver-haired scientist wearing glasses standing in the gap of the former door, pointing a gun at Yagami’s head and keeping his other hand in the pocket.
After Kurama gets everyone’s attention, he adds while keeping his poker face. “I warn you - one wrong move and I’ll blast a brute like you.”
Yet, Iori only growls at the impostor and shields Kyo with one arm.
Meanwhile, Kyoko’s face shines with excitement as she approaches the scientist. “Dad, you’re okay!”
However, as the tip of the gun moves towards her, Kurama replies. “Back off, you filthy copy.”
After she steps back, she lowers her head to the side. “Dad? Is everything alright?”
When the female replica places her hand on her chest, she adds. “Hey, Dad, look. The original is here. And that man over there - he helped me to save Nii-sama. So, he is in good hands now, and we’ll bring him to you when he feels better.”
The silver-haired male is unaffected by these words. After he points back the gun at the redhead, he orders. “Let him go and I may pretend that I never met you.”
“Fuck off! Kyo is mine!” Iori growls and points his trustworthy weapon at him.
But for now, Kurama only chuckles and fixes his glasses. “I see… It seems that peaceful negotiation with war criminals has failed. But I didn’t expect more from someone who only understands violence. Unfortunately for you, I won’t allow a bloody murderer like you to harm him any further.”
Meanwhile, Kyo is startled when the professor looks towards him with that warm, innocent smile and a comforting voice that sends cold shivers down his skin. “It’s alright, Kusanagi-kun. Let me finish these barbarians and I’ll take you to a safer place.”
Just before he pulls the trigger, Kyoko closes her eyes and tackles him, making him miss the shot.
While Kurama struggles under the brunette sitting on top of his back, he desperately tries to reach the dropped gun. “What? What do you think you’re doing? Get off me now!”
Unfortunately for him, Kyoko is strong enough to lock his arms.
But for now, she softens her gaze. “I’m sorry, dad. I can’t let you do this. That man may have killed countless of my brothers. However, he proved to me he cares a lot about original and he spared Nii-sama’s life. Dad, he even gave me a name before you did.”
“I knew from the very beginning that you are a defective failure who can’t follow simple orders. But I’m amazed how a weakling like you shares the same genes as Kusanagi-kun. If only the prototype would have developed faster than you, I would have saved my time and energy, and used him to trick that woman and NESTS instead of giving a life to such a worthless creature like you,” Kurama confesses.
After Kyoko releases his arms, she responds weakly while tears run down her face, trying to hold back sobs. “No. Dad, please tell me you’re lying…”
For sure, hearing these words alone boiled Iori’s blood with pure rage and hatred for this man.
At that moment, Kyo lowers his gaze upon such a revelation while the redhead refuses to listen to it any further and turns off his saber blade and attaches to his belt.
When Iori lowers his head, he addresses Kyo without looking back in as a chill voice as possible. “Stay still and do not interfere. It’s something personal between me and him.”
After he approaches the dumbfounded and shaky Kyoko and her oh-so-adored father, he pushes her away. When he squats, he roughly grabs Kurama by his shirt and makes him stand up.
In the end, Yagami narrows his gaze and looks down at the professor with pure disgust and hatred. “So, you’re the one who took Kyo away from me and made him suffer …You fucking bastard!”
Thus, Iori launches a punch into Kurama’s face.
Despite that, Kurama remains silent and gives a smug look while the blood runs from his nose and the corners of his lips.
As soon as Yagami tosses down the silver-haired male, he approaches Kyo. “We’re leaving.”
Meanwhile, the brunette objects while sitting on her knees and making big eyes. “But what about dad? We can’t just leave him like this, can we?”
“You’ve seen just now how much he cares about you. Besides, your brother is waiting for you.” Iori explains.
For now, the brunette lowers her gaze and follows the command. “Yes.”
When he gets close to Kusanagi, he takes his hand. “The same goes for you. Let’s go.”
However, just before Kyo opens his mouth to protest, Yagami interrupts him. “You can say whatever you want when we reach the base, you fool!”
Lastly, the redhead starts running and grabs Kyoko’s arm, making sure they will escape NESTS together.
Some time has passed.
After finally reaching their spaceship and entering it, Iori hears a short beeping noise from his sound transmission device and answers it. “What do you want?”
“This is the Headquarters. What are you up to this time, Yagami-san? And where in the world did you took Kyoko-san? Pl… please return to the Headquarters immediately!” The young female operator’s voice burst through speakers.
“Why do you have to be so annoying? Your precious princess is here with me if you care that much about her. Besides, we’re not coming back alone.” Iori explains in a slightly irritated tone.
“What are you talking about? Care to explain?” The operator asks.
Instead of wasting his time, the redhead replies before turning off the transmission device. “When we return, you all will see. Over.”
Meanwhile, Kyoko switches to the auto-pilot mode and turns her head to check on the other two Resistance soldiers in the back. “What was that, Yagami?”
“It seems that someone only now noticed that you’re missing and worries about you.” The redhead answers.
“I knew that I should have warned Kagura-san and Nii-sama before I left…” the brunette murmurs.
Several minutes have passed. While the auto-pilot mode is still on, Kyoko takes a longer nap before they reach the Headquarters.
In the meantime, Kyo stares through the window and sighs. “You should have left me. After all, not only I’ll cause trouble for you, but also I’ve killed him.”
Yet, Yagami leans closer and gives a questioning look.
Even if the words stuck in Kusanagi’s throat and he avoids facing Iori, he continues. “It was my fault that Shingo died twice. I’ve let him suffer in that abandoned spaceship, and now his dead body lies somewhere in NESTS labs. More importantly, NESTS and the Empire are probably tracking us and soon will discover our base.”
Suddenly, he widens his eyes when a couple of palms rest on his cheeks, making him face the redhead.
At that moment, the brunette silently stares at Iori, who narrows his gaze and studies him.
A second later, Yagami closes his eyes and exhales. After he lowers his hands, he replies. “Is this what concerns you? Then you definitely need to see something by yourself once we return.”
After a brief pause, he adds. “If you still blame yourself for what happened, show me your wrists.”
Of course, the brunette doesn’t question such a decision.
After Kyo raises his restrained hands, he looks away and impatiently waits for his partner’s next turn.
However, he gets alerted by the sound of a saber blade cutting and the sensation of his wrists being so light-weighted.
After Kyo checks his hands, he lifts his amber eyes, which question Yagami’s actions.
“I should have done this earlier.” Iori comments.
But for now, Kyo nervously swallows the saliva when their eyes meet.
Meanwhile, the redhead places his fingers under the brunette’s collar. “There should be a button somewhere around here to remove this thing, right?”
Thus, with the clicking noise, the black collar opens and releases the Kusanagi’s neck.
Unfortunately, it doesn’t fall on the ground and rests on the nape.
“The hell? Why is it still there?” Iori speaks up in an indignant tone while reaching out for it.
When he tries to pulls it, he withdraws his hand upon the Kusanagi’s sudden gasp.
A few moments later, the brunette only lowers his gaze and explains in a gloomy tone. “You won’t remove it that easily. It’s deep down inside me.”
‘These bastards… What they have done to him?’ Yagami thinks to himself while grinding his teeth.
A second later, he addresses Kyo in a serious voice. “This may sound like a stupid thing to say, but I need you to lie down on your stomach and on my lap.”
To his surprise, Kusanagi doesn’t protest and does what he says.
When Iori brings his hand in front of his partner’s mouth, he orders him. “You may want to bite into it. Here.”
For sure, such a gesture bewilders Kyo, making him hesitate.
“It may hurt you. That’s why I don’t want you to harm yourself.” The redhead persists.
After the brunette opens his mouth, he gently bites into Yagami’s hand.
When Iori grasps with his fingers around the exposed wire under the collar, he warns. “I’m going to pull it out now. Nod me if you’re ready.”
Lastly, Kusanagi lowers his gaze and nods.
Suddenly, Kyo widens his eyes and loudly gasps.
While his partner’s teeth sink into his flesh, Iori endures the pain and deeply breathes.
Fortunately, he pulls out the entire metal thread out of Kusanagi’s body.
However, when Kyo stops breathing and loosens his bite, Yagami slightly panics. “Kyo!”
After immediately removing one glove, Iori presses it against the brunette’s nape and checks his pulse on his sleep artery.
When he senses a weak pulse twitching against his fingers, he lowers his shoulders and exhales.
As Yagami brushes the hair from Kyo’s face, he whispers. “Thank goodness… He only passed out.”
A few minutes have passed. After Iori puts a medical plaster on disinfected Kyo’s nape, he lays him down on the entire back seat and rests the brunette’s head on his lap.
As he takes off his uniform jacket and covers himself, he gazes upon the peacefully sleeping Kusanagi, still in disbelief that Kyo is here with him.
More importantly, even staying like this for a while makes Iori happy secretly. After all, Kyo is safe by his side and does not need to suffer anymore.

A week has passed.
As soon as the detailed examination results showed up, they were delivered to the commander. Thus, after the meeting, the commander decided that Kusanagi’s clones did not pose any threat to the Resistance Force.
However, while the female replica was safe to leave the Medical Unit, the male one had to remain under the supervision of the medical staff until he was ready to be trained as a soldier.
Starting today, the female Kyo’s look-alike has officially become a member of the Resistance Force and received the title of Private Kyoko.
Meanwhile, for Iori, it is a long-awaited day as well. After all, he can finally progress his plans further.
But for now, he finishes preparing for tonight’s departure.
“Hopefully, that idiot won’t forget about the meeting nor do anything reckless.” Or so the redhead murmurs when he picks up his light saber.
As he stares at it, he softens his gaze. “You better be not dead. So, wait for me for me, Kyo ... Just a bit longer, and I’m coming for you.”
Lastly, he attaches his trustworthy weapon to his belt.
Some time passes. It is already a late night. After a while, the redhead reaches the port. However, when he looks around, he notices that there is no sign of one certain brunette yet.
But for now, he leans his back against the nearest wall. After he picks a pack of cigarettes from his uniform jacket, he lightens one.
Another few minutes pass. Soon enough, one certain brunette shows up. “There you are. So, what did you want to show me so badly, Yagami?”
As Iori steps on the burnt cigarette, he states. “We’re leaving.”
Kyoko only widens her eyes and raises her eyebrow. “Where?”
“We’re going to visit your father and your original,” Yagami explains while keeping his hands in his pants pockets and approaching the nearest spaceship.
While she follows her partner, she objects. “What you mean by that? But what about Nii-sama? Dad might be upset if I won’t bring him.”
“That’s his problem.” Iori backfires.
‘If anything, he should be afraid for his life and god forbids it if he was one of these bastards who hurt Kyo.’ Or so the redhead thinks while clenching his palm into a fist and momentarily baring his fangs.
After exhaling and lowering his shoulders, he adds. “Your brother is still too weak to go with us. So, you can tell this to your father. Besides, if he is such a kind person as you claim, he should understand you. Don’t you think so?”
At first, the brunette steps back while giving a questioning look. Yet, she follows Iori and nods.
That’s right, during her stay in the Resistance Force, Yagami used to visit her in the Medical Unit every day. Despite these being short ones, it strangely brighten up her day.
Thus, eventually, she started to trust the redhead and noticed that he didn’t mind that much when she tried to tease him.
After getting into the spaceship, Iori allows Kyoko to sit in the pilot seat while she turns her head and stares at him.
As the redhead sits down next to her, he asks. “Why are you staring at me like this? You should know better where is your father than me. Unless he didn’t tell you how to return home and wanted to get rid of you.”
“You’re wrong! Dad would never do this. Just you wait ‘til you meet him.” The brunette indignantly replies.
Iori only rolls his eyes and points at the display panel with his palm. “Go on and prove to me I’m wrong.”
While Kyoko enters the needed coordinates, she complains. “But thanks to you, I won’t be able to contact him. So, how he’ll know that I’m coming to see him?”
When they finally depart from the Resistance Force, Kyoko sits back and frowns. “Besides, based on what I’ve seen so far, I’m surprised that you rely on a piece of clothing that has zero protection instead of having body armor. You also use such primitive weapons. And I’m not talking about the outdated technology in your base… It’s still amazing how you survived that long.”
Instead of saying anything, Yagami removes the sound transmission device from behind his ear and passes it to the female replica. “Here. Even if it’s an old model and not whatever you used, at least the Empire or anyone else won’t be able to listen to you.”
While Kyoko studies the small device, the redhead’s question makes her turn back. “What’s wrong? Now you can call your oh-so-precious father. Or you don’t know how to use it?”
“Of course, I know! …I think.” The brunette immediately responds.
“Let me give you a hint. You need to scroll the switches until you set to your wanted frequency. Then, if you want to hear anything, put it behind your ear,” Iori explains while he relaxes in the chair and crosses his arms.
Meanwhile, Kyoko carefully follows the instructions and remarks. “It’s a pretty primitive-looking thing. However, I saw something like this lying around in Dad’s room. In any case, hopefully, he is not busy...”
Lastly, Iori closes his eyes and exhales. For now, he waits until they arrive at their destination place, where Kyo is imprisoned.
At the moment, he isn’t much concerned that whoever created this clone would pick up their signal to lure them into a trap.
That’s right, someone bred these replicas for the Empire, and the one sitting next to him might have been not an exception.
More so, she is as naïve as a child creature who would betray him without any sense of guilt or a second thought and wouldn’t understand what she has done.
On the other hand, it’s not important right now. After all, Yagami’s determination to see his long-time partner is stronger than anything.
Even if they are greeted by the armed forces, Iori will unleash his blade and fight anyone until either he or the enemy remains on the field.
He’ll even challenge the Death itself or the entire world if that’s the only way to get to Kyo. Or so the redhead ponders while observing the vast of the never-ending universe through the front window.
A couple of hours have passed. Thus, the Resistance soldiers finally arrived at their destination place.
The only light source that touched this land was from the spaceship, which revealed a grim and neglected scenery by mankind for years.
Judging from the empty, spacious area surrounded by the dark mist, it was used as a parking area.
But for now, when they step on this strange land, Iori turns on the flashlight and passes it to his partner. “What are you waiting? Show me the way. Or did you think you would trick me into going to the middle of nowhere?”
“Why would I? Dad taught to me to never lie or hide anything from him. Besides, how else I would prove him that Nii-sama is alright? That’s why you need to stay close to me because dad warn me that if you get lost here, no one will help you.” The brunette replies while keeping an eye on Yagami.
As they go deeper into the never-ending darkness, Kyoko explains. “It shouldn’t be far from here. So, we should reach the backdoor of the lab facility where dad works for the evil people. However, I wonder if he is doing fine or if he knows that we’re here…”
Of course, the redhead could tell her why her oh-so-adored father didn’t bother to pick up the signal. However, it would be as pointless as asking the wind not to blow.
More importantly, it may be wiser not to agitate or to stress this replica and play along with her, no matter how ridiculous her world is painted by whoever made her.
For now, Iori closes his eyes and sighs. “I’m sure that he is doing something important.”
In the end, the brunette’s face lightens up, and she nods. “That’s right!”
A second later, she proudly adds. “Perhaps right now he is waiting for me. So, you better be prepared to show him no less than respect when you see him.”
Lastly, Iori only rolls his eyes. “Whatever.”
After a while, their path becomes brighter. As the female clone of Kyo promised, she kept her word. Thus, soon, they reached the poorly lightened iron gate.
Meanwhile, Kyo only crosses her arms and holds her chin while staring at the pin code panel close to the door.
“What’s wrong? Have you forgotten the password?” Iori asks.
For sure, the redhead’s question makes her turn her head. Yet, she lowers her gaze. “Dad never told me.”
Yagami only indifferently addresses his partner. “And what are you suggesting to do next? Wait until anyone will unlock for us?”
“That’s right.” The brunette briefly answers.
For now, Iori steps forward and pushes Kyoko to the side. “Move.”
A second later, he picks up and lightens his saber blade. After he turns his head, he adds. “Or do you wish to be sliced into pieces?”
“What are you?-” The brunette speaks up before her voice is cut off when Yagami unleashes a powerful strike.
A slash after a slash, and Iori kicks out the cut door.
As soon as the sirens howl and the white corridors flash in crimson, he grabs the stunned brunette’s arm and announces. “We’re going in. Stay close to me or else you’ll meet your father faster than you think. ”
In the end, Yagami storms in through the gateway to hell.
Meanwhile, in one of the researchers’ rooms. One silver-haired professor is about to doze out before finishing working on the papers.
Suddenly, his guard is caught by the loud sirens and the robotic voice warning. “EMERGENCY ALERT! EMERGENCY ALERT! A GROUP OF TERRORISTS ARE ROAMING FREE IN ISOLATION UNIT!”
After Professor Kurama pushes the chair away and stands up, he fixes his glasses and delightfully smiles like a fox. “My... it was a matter of time before the inevitable happens.”
Just before taking his leave, he adds. “Looks like Miss Fortune favoring us, Kusanagi-kun.”
Despite the midst of the panic and chaos, he walks with noble elegance until someone rushes into him.
“The hell you’re doing? Don’t just stand here!” The senior scientist yells at him.
While the silver-haired male keeps his hands in the medical coat’s pockets, he pulls the pistol and pulls the trigger.
With a bang, the middle-aged scientist’s life thread is cut, and his dead body hits the ground.
For now, Kurama squats and searches that man’s pockets. “Please, you do not need to worry about me.”
When he picks up a key card and puts it into his pocket, he stands up and addresses the corpse. “On the other hand, I would be very grateful for this.”
In the end, the professor heads towards the facility where one test subject is kept before he is sent off to the Imperial Army.
And thus, the great race with time begins in which only one side can succeed.

Thus, within the first sunbeams breaking through the gaps of the curtains and the chirping birds outside, Shiro finally stretches out and opens his eyes.
However, when the silver-haired young man instinctively rolls to check the time, he realizes his mother won’t call him for breakfast this morning. After all, it’s not even his room, or he belongs here.
Shiro is still surprised at how he slept in such a place.
Even the luxurious, pre-war Western design apartment, which the most powerful man in the country assigned to him after learning about his new routine, is alien to him, and he cannot get used to living there.
More so, unlike Shiro’s home, it lacks comfort and warmth.
Thankfully, the old wall phone links him to a bygone era he can't revisit. That’s why hearing his mother’s voice brings him an overwhelming sense of comfort.
In any case, he understands that he must get up and prepare for today.
Some time passed. As Shiro stands before the mirror, he fixes the tie and the collar and puts on the military cap on his head.
When his gloved palm brushes through the fabric of his uniform, he softens his gaze and sighs.
No matter how difficult for him to believe, the military secretary who faces him in the mirror reflection is him.
It’s not just a strange dream, but a new reality he must accept. After all, he is now a subordinate of the ruthless tyrant who rules with an iron fist, no longer a student of Heisei University.
He also understands that this uniform is not a decoration, but a sign of high status. With it comes a mountain of responsibilities that Shiro hopes not to be overwhelmed in a single day.
Suddenly, his further thoughts are interrupted by the beeping car outside. Currently, the secretary with silver hair recollects Commander Shiki mentioning that he will be picked up by one of his drivers in the morning.
Instead of wasting more time, Shiro puts on the long, dark coat and leaves through the door.
Thus, he mentally prepares himself for starting not just a day but also a new chapter in his life, with its challenges and hardships.
After a while, he arrives at the office building. Unlike yesterday, the driver holds the car door open for him, and the guards salute him and allow him inside.
For sure such a change of attitude towards him contrasts with day and night.
At the moment, he is unsure whether people around him respect him out of fear of violating the commander’s orders.
Even when a few officers see him, they fix themselves when they accidentally speak Captain Akira’s name.
Yet, he cannot bring himself to be mad at the same people who mistreated him. He was just an alien here, and they were only following the orders, right? Shiro wonders while being escorted to Shiki’s office.
Soon enough, the gray-eyed male arrives at the office, and the person leading him knocks on the door, informing him about his presence. After receiving permission, this man opens the door and lets Shiro inside.
When the door closes behind the silver-haired secretary, he politely bows.
Meanwhile, the commander instructs him. “Hang your coat and come here.”
“Y-yes, sir.” Shiro briefly answers in a gentle voice. But for now, the old typing machine catches his attention.
When he handles the current task, he receives another one. “Hopefully, you can type fast.”
As Shiki stands up and his gaze points to his chair, he continues. “Sit. Or do you prefer to stand?”
Instead of saying anything, the secretary remains silent, and before sitting down, he nods.
“Today, your task is to prepare me a report detailing the current status of personnel within the division. Include information on deployments, training schedules, and any personnel changes. Ensure accuracy and timeliness. Understand?” The commander instructs.
“Yes… Right away, sir.” The silver-haired secretary immediately yet politely answers.
Lastly, Shiki adds while keeping a stoic posture. “Good. But first, you will help to write a couple of letters.”
And thus, Shiro’s first day as a secretary begins.
Some time passed. After Shiro finishes working on the requested documents, he sits back and checks the time on the clock hanging on the wall.
Suddenly, he widens his eyes and stands up. After all, it’s already past the supposed afternoon tea time.
Without wasting time, the silver-haired secretary rushes through the door while he forgets to take the papers.
After a while, Shiro reaches the commander’s office door. Of course, he struggled to navigate in the new place, and he couldn’t memorize the directions on his first day at the job.
While he still catches his breath, he knocks on the door. “Pardon for the intrusion, sir. However, may I come in, please?”
When he receives the permission, he enters inside while preparing himself for the worst.
“Close the door and come here.” The dark-haired male orders with sensible irritation in his voice while sitting behind his desk.
As Shiro lowers his gaze and nods, he does what is said. At least, it’s the least he can do to avoid further angering the commander.
“Do you ever check the time? Next time, set a reminder or use the alarm clock if get lost in time.” Shiki speaks while observing how his subordinate is so stiff.
For sure, the gray-eyed secretary can see that the supreme ruler is containing his disappointment. Nevertheless, he tries to appeal to him. “I’m terribly sorry… I… Let me rush to the staff kitchen and quickly- ”
However, when Shiki raises his palm, Shiro immediately closes his mouth and straightens his back.
After a brief pause, the military tyrant lowers it. “There is no need for that. You are dismissed.”
“What about the report you’ve asked for?” Shiro objects. After he realizes perhaps he used the wrong tone, he covers his mouth with his palm and shrugs.
But for now, he notices the commander keeps his anger and annoyance behind his poker face.
As Shiki clenches his fist, he replies. “Leave it on my desk. Then you can leave for today.”
In the end, when Shiro bows, his military cap falls from his head. Despite embarrassing himself like this, he remains as formal as possible. “I understand. And I’m sorry for causing the problems. I’ll make sure it won’t happen.”
After the silver-haired male leaves, Shiki face-palms and rubs his temples.
This boy resembles his prized possession. Yet, he strongly lacks his will and discipline. In this case, training a bear to ride a bicycle is much simpler compared to whatever he is. Or so the supreme ruler ponders.
A couple more days have passed. However, instead of being responsible for the paperwork or attending important meetings, Shiro was assigned to clean the commander’s office and run basic errands.
For sure, the silver-haired secretary was partially relieved that his shoulders were lifted from carrying so much responsibility. On the other hand, he senses that it might be a bad sign.
After all, if he makes another mistake, Commander Shiki might silently discard him, and no one will notice it.
But it’s okay. Shiro avoided getting into trouble that would upset the commander this time.
More so, he hasn’t received any complaints from the others either. Or so Shiro comforts himself as he prepares a pot of tea and sets out cups on the silver tray before leaving the kitchen.
Some time passes. Finally, as the gray-eyed secretary takes a deep breath and straightens his back, he enters the supreme ruler’s office.
After politely greeting Shiki as usual, he closes the door behind him.
Unfortunately, one wrong step on the tiny wrinkle on the crimson carpet is enough for Shiro to trip over.
At that moment, he can swear that the time has stopped, and he hears his slowdown respiring and his heartbeat ringing inside his head.
However, the harsh landing on the ground and shattered porcelain is enough to return him to his senses.
After the silver-haired secretary manages to get up shakily and half-sit, he widens his eyes and lifts his head.
All he can do is stare at the military tyrant, who is irritated and disappointed.
When Shiro places his shaky palms on the ground, he closes his eyes and bows. “I-I’m... I’m terribly sorry! Please forgive me! I-”
Suddenly, the door opens and the loud, rushing footsteps silence him and make him turn toward the concerned young male’s voice. “Commander!-”
For now, Shiro only observes the other military secretary, who not only wears the same uniform as him but also looks identical to him.
However, when that unknown young man notices him, he only dumbfounded stares back at him.
“What are you doing here?” The commander asks the blue-eyed male, who stormed into the room.
Meanwhile, Shiro decides to wait silently and see how this plays out before receiving his punishment.
“I heard a weird noise behind the door, and I needed to see whether you are safe, sir,” Akira politely replies.
When his blue eyes point at the supposed-to-be impostor, he returns his questioning gaze to Shiki. “Please forgive me for my rudeness, but who is this incompetent fool? And what is he doing in your office?”
“That is your substitute until you recover and are ready to go back to work,” Shiki states while keeping a serious look on his face.
Meanwhile, Shiro is concerned that the preserved military secretary’s posture and face change into briefly bewildered.
Soon, Akira fixes his shoulders while being as professional as possible. “I have no right to judge but to support you and your decisions, sir. However, please reconsider who will be able to serve you. If you wish, I can help you with that.”
However, Shiki raises an eyebrow while keeping a serious look on his face and asks. “Are you telling me what to do?”
The blue-eyed male shakes his head. “No. Not all.”
After a brief pause, Akira points with his palm at his new threat to the commander. “But this worthless thing will only mess up everything, even if you entrust him with the most simple tasks. More importantly, you’ll endanger yourself if you let this creature anywhere close to you!”
When he deeply exhales, he continues his speech while pressing his palm against his chest. “I won’t allow him to leave peacefully if anything happens to you... That’s why, if you excuse me, I need to talk in-person with him and discipline him accordingly.”
Shiro only gasps and crawls back when the ruthless secretary approaches him.
After Akira kneels and roughly grabs him by his uniform, the gray-eyed young man shrugs and whimpers.
However, he ignores Shiro’s discomfort and scolds him. “Get up already! Whining won’t help you. So, at least have some shame to face your punishment properly!”
Certainly, there is no mercy in these ice-cold, unforgiving blue eyes, showing pure fury and disgust towards his victim.
So, it’s a matter of seconds before he’ll be shredded into pieces. Or so Shiro assumes as he trembles like a leaf.
Lastly, Akira raises his hand and is about to send a powerful slap. However, his palm stops in the middle and freezes upon hearing Shiki’s strict command. “Enough! Release him and come here.”
Meanwhile, after Shiro carefully opens his eyes, his gaze follows the other secretary, who faces the supreme ruler.
As Shiki exhales, he narrows his gaze and addresses his loyal subordinate. “When did you grow so bold to lash out at your colleagues?”
“That is!-” Akira objects.
However, his voice is cut off when the military tyrant raises his palm.
After Shiki lowers his palm, he fixates his piercing red eyes on his subordinate and orders. “Do not argue with me.”
At the moment, only observing how Akira keeps a straight posture without moving makes Shiro worry about his well-being.
When the commander rests his chin on his palms, he continues to discipline the blue-eyed secretary without removing his eyes from him. “You even disobey and do not follow orders. Perhaps firing you may help you understand your place.”
These words finally crack Akira’s poker face, and he lowers his head like a guilty puppy who only accepts his master’s harsh decision.
But for now, Shiro’s heart skips a beat when Shiki looks his way for a while.
Lastly, the fearful tyrant turns his gaze to his personal secretary and announces his final verdict. “Starting today, you need to treat him like any of your men.”
For now, Shiki is amused by his subordinate’s confused face, and he adds. “You will be able to do this. So, when you are ready to return to your duties, you will train him to become a fine secretary to replace you when you get sick or need a day off. Any objections?”
No matter how Akira dislikes this decision and finds it a pointless task, he doesn’t object and nods. “‘Yes. I understand.”
Meanwhile, even the gray-eyed male still cannot comprehend what just happened and feels like it is nothing more than a strange dream.
Suddenly, he gets startled by Shiki calmly addressing him. “Call the cleaner to my office, and then you are free for the rest of the day.”
Fortunately, it’s enough for the fear and guilt to vanish in Shiro’s eyes and to be replaced by the sparkle of hope and innocent excitement. Thus, the light-haired male immediately responds. “Y-yes, sir!”
However, Akira’s strict voice ground him. “Do you know with whom you are talking? Show the proper respect, you fool!”
Lastly, after Shiro stands up and before taking his leave, he silently bows and closes the door.
For sure, it was a close one. So, it’s a pure miracle that he managed to survive. The secretary ponders while feeling like a huge boulder was removed from his chest.
On the other hand, Shiro is uncertain about what awaits him tomorrow.
After all, Commander Shiki’s personal secretary is scary and strict. So, who knows whether he’ll prepare a living hell of training for him? Suddenly, Shiro shivers and rubs his arms just at the thought of what Akira will do to him when they are alone in his office.

Finally, with the sounds of a ringing bell, the last lecture is over. And thus, after picking up his textbooks, one silver-haired male with gray eyes in his twenties leaves the auditorium.
After walking in the corridor, he turns his head and gazes through the window. However, the sun’s reflection on the rustled tree leaves makes him gloomier.
After all, just when he managed to settle down in the new place for a while, the recent news struck like lightning from the clear sky and ruined his momentary happiness.
Apparently, Shiro’s days of reckless freedom are counted, and soon he’ll be placed in the meat grinder. That’s right, Shiro received a recruitment letter from the military a couple of days ago.
Of course, he didn’t tell about it to his mother because he perfectly understood that it might break her heart, and she wouldn’t let him perish on the battlefield like his late father.
Unfortunately, he knows well that he won’t be able to hide the needle in the bag for too long or ignore this cursed piece of paper that kills countless men. However, he doesn’t care about being taken by the force but is afraid of what these awful, unpredictable, corrupted officers may do to his mother if he doesn’t cooperate with them.
But for now, Shiro continues on his way, trying to forget that letter, focusing on group assignment tasks, and thinking about what place he should pick for incoming practice.
Some time has passed. As Shiro expected by this time, the streets are already crowded by the mass of constantly changing people, and he blends into the moving gray mass in no time.
Suddenly, he widens his eyes as someone from behind grabs his arm. At first, he shakes off the stranger’s hand without turning back.
Besides, maybe it’s just a random stranger wanting to mess around. At least, it’s not as uncomfortable as the passengers on the train either being too close to him.
Therefore, Shiro decides not to pay too much attention to such a petite thing and minds his business as usual.
Unfortunately, another stranger is bolder than the previous one and slips something small inside his uniform pants pocket.
Yet, the silver-haired male’s reaction is faster, and as he grasps the white-gloved hand, he turns back. “What do you think of doing?”
To his surprise, it’s a middle-aged man in a military uniform grinning at him like a hungry wolf.
As that man grips Shiro’s wrist, he addresses him. “Where do you think you’re going, you little thief?”
“Let... let me go!” The gray-eyed male resists. Yet, he gasps as another officer holds his other arm.
“Not only you’ve caught stealing, but you also have an audacity to disrespect the authority.” Another officer replies in a mocking tone.
While one of them puts the handcuffs behind his back, he adds. “You have a lot of guts, kid…”
Despite being the center of the crowds’ attention, Shiro struggles. “I didn’t do anything wrong.”
“Then, what’s this? How did end up in your pocket? Or are you telling us it jumped right into your pocket?” The middle-aged man asks as he pulls a tiny plastic bag filled with white powder and shows it in front of the poor student.
Shiro freezes in the same spot while his eyes follow the small object swigged. A few seconds later, he only closes his eyes and calmly explains. “You are the ones who slipped it in. So, please do not blame me for it.”
“Still playing innocent, eh? Perhaps staying in the prison cell will fix your rotten behavior.” The officer replies as both start dragging him.
In the end, the scared crowd distances themselves from a couple of officers taking away the young criminal while murmuring between themselves or rushing from the crime scene.
Meanwhile, Shiro is stubborn and indignantly addresses the people. “Help me! Let me go! How… How can anyone can be so blind and allow these bastards to do as they wish and commit crimes? You clearly have seen how they just taking an advance of their position and bullying average people! If we all unite, we can defeat these coward men and bring the justice!”
Yet, his speech is silenced by receiving a hit into his head by the sword handle.
“Hey, you better be careful with that! The commander may dislike him and we’ll get no reward if that brat is injured or dead.” The older man scolds his colleague.
After they approached their car and opened it, the other officer replied. “He’ll take him anyway and will even applaud us. Just look at him. He is the copy of that lousy secretary.”
When he picks an empty sack and rope, he orders. “Just make sure that he won’t try to escape.”
While his colleague holds Shiro tight, he puts the bag over him and wraps the surrounding rope.
“Where are you taking me?” The silver-haired male asks.
“Don’t worry, you’ll learn soon. So, you better behave yourself or else your parents may get very upset finding out that their dead son was a drug addict.” The older man explains as he tosses him like a sack of potatoes to the back seat.
Lastly, Shiro remains silent and feels anxious, without having any idea where he is taken or how these cruel men will torture him before his corpse is disposed of.
Some time passed. After the car stops, these men drag the restrained student and prompt him to go. However, very little he knows how drastically his cursed fate will change.
As time passes, Shiro becomes more uncomfortable and stiff by only walking in the never-ending corridors.
One thing is being treated like a criminal who gets closer to his execution. Another thing is the heavy, chilling, and unwelcoming atmosphere in the air and feeling watched by countless eyes that he cannot see.
Even on their way, Shiro becomes more concerned and pale after listening to how the older officer proudly explains to someone how they brought something that should interest the commander.
But for now, a couple of officers finally reach their destination place. Or so the silver-haired male assumes as he hears how one of these men knocks on the wooden door. “Commander, we brought him as you requested and you would love to see him.”
After a brief pause, the supreme ruler permits this couple to enter the office while dragging the sacrificial lamb.
Just from the menacing and cold energy surrounding this room, Shiro feels as if the ruthless tyrant’s eyes pierce his body. He can even swear that there is an invisible wire wrapped around him that cuts him if he makes a single move.
Perhaps this is how small animals feel being cornered and looked down on by the serpent. The gray-eyed male ponders.
“Show him to me. Or do you intend to waste my time?” Shiki briefly orders.
“R-right away, sir!” the older man agrees.
When the surrounding rope becomes loose and falls off, the bag is finally removed.
Suddenly, Shiro widens his eyes in terror and gasps upon seeing the military tyrant indifferently staring at him behind his desk. At that moment, the poor student trembles like a leaf and falls on his knees like a rag-doll. Fortunately, his weak body is supported by these men.
Meanwhile, Shiki stands up and approaches the offered creature, studying his every movement and facial expression.
After the red-eyed male stands in front of the unfortunate young man, he narrows his gaze.
For now, Shiro hisses in pain as one officer pulls his hair to lift his head and fixates his eyes on the supreme leader.
“How is it? Will he be enough for you, sir?” Another man asks impatiently.
Shiki only states. “His eyes are gray.”
“We can easily fix that! Please, just tell us what color you prefer and it will be done in no time. Whatever you wish for, we will adjust him in shape or form until you will be satisfied.” The other boasts.
Even if Shiro is speechless, his teary eyes speak louder than any words that beg for mercy.
In the end, the dark-haired male announces his final verdict. “There is no need. Leave him and you are dismissed.”
“B-but what about our reward for our hard work?” The older officer objects.
‘Tsk, what a bunch of greedy vermin…’ Shiki gives them a cold, disgusted look before picking a thick pile of bills from his uniform jacket and tossing it like food for the pigs, which eat anything like shameless animals.
As these men pick up the money, one of them bows and thanks before leaving the room. Lastly, Shiro is left alone to face the ruthless tyrant.
“Your name?” The supreme ruler addresses him. After receiving no answers, he adds. “Or do dogs like you don’t have it?”
Instead of saying anything, the silver-haired male only turns his head away and closes his eyes. Even if he accepts his bitter ending, he refuses to see it.
However, he immediately opens his gray eyes as the commander takes something from his pants pocket and fixates his eyes on him.
While Shiki studies the student ID card, he cracks a smile. “Heisei University? Isn’t it where you learn a bunch of useless nonsense?”
After he gracefully places the card on the desk, he continues his speech. “Well, whatever you’ve been taught here, you’ll be still a fine replacement.”
When Shiki walks behind his prey’s back, he picks his sword from the sheath. Lastly, he cuts the handcuffs.
At that moment, Shiro stares at the floor while leaning on his shaky hands.
A second later, the military tyrant orders. “Strip.”
For sure, it shocks the gray-eyed male, who only hugs himself. “No…”
Unfortunately, the poor student realizes he made a terrible mistake, and these red judging eyes will be the last thing he sees before he perishes.
Suddenly, he loudly gasps and closes his eyes as the naked blade slashes his uniform jacket and shirt.
Although, he still cannot comprehend how he is alive or even scratched as if the sword didn’t aim to cut through his flesh.
As soon as Shiro realizes that his back is exposed, he covers his chest with the remains of his clothing and murmurs. “Barbarian.”
As Shiki allows his sword to rest in the sheath, he gives a questioning look at the creature below him.
After he kneels in front of Shiro and grips his throat, he makes him face him. “Did you say anything? Speak louder.”
Without a second thought, the gray-eyed male shouts. “Barbarian!”
Meanwhile, Shiki only narrows his gaze after he grabs the student by his uniform and sends a harsh slap across his face. After removing the bothering clothing, he looks down on the fallen Shiro covering his stinging cheek. “You don’t understand against whom you raise your voice?”
When Shiro sits on one leg, he lowers his head and bites his lower lip. After a brief pause, he speaks up, nearly sobbing. “Why me? Why are you doing this? I did nothing wrong to deserve this!… First, these bastards framed me, then kidnapped me… And for what? Is human’s life worthless to you!? I hate this… I hate how it’s nothing more than a joke to you… So, kill me as anyone else who is nothing more than a pest for you… It’ll just prove that this country has fallen from the grace and rotten like a fish - starting from the head of it…”
The military tyrant only indifferently stares at the silver-haired male, who barely holds back from crying.
But for now, he reaches out for his unsheathed sword. When he is about to point the tip of it at Shiro’s cheek, the poor young man closes his eyes and shrugs while whimpering.
Who knew that someone similar to his personal secretary trembles like an aspen upon the smallest threat? On the other hand, maybe it’s for the better. After all, this stray animal learns quickly its place. More importantly, it might be interesting to see how his prized possession will react to this cheap imitation of him. Or so Shiki ponders.
When he narrows his gaze, he instructs him before taking his leave. “Wait here until I return.”
In the end, Shiro is left alone in the supreme ruler’s office while being eaten by uncertainty and anxiety.
A half-hour passes. However, the military tyrant hasn’t returned yet.
In the meantime, Shiro investigates his surroundings and realizes that he won’t escape this hell place in one piece.
Firstly, if he jumped through the window, he’d splatter his brain on the pavement.
Secondly, he may get shot or cut by the security guards. After all, the commander might be the unpredictable man who can think of anything to get what he wants.
Even if he stays here obediently, he may suffer like a war prisoner for speaking up his thoughts about this dictatorship and tyranny. On the other hand, he doesn’t understand why the commander hasn’t ordered to execute him or sent him to the labor camp as a dangerous person.
But for now, Shiro sits and leans his back against the leg of the desk while sinking deeper into despair.
Some time passed. Finally, the opening door and someone walking in makes the silver-haired male lift his head.
When Shiki approaches him, he tosses a pile of neatly folded clothes at him. “Wear this.”
After Shiro studies the given clothes, he notices it is some military uniform. Instead of asking unnecessary questions and not to anger the most powerful man in the country, he nods and answers in a gloomy voice. “Yes…”
Meanwhile, after Shiki sits behind his desk and crosses his legs, he places his elbows on the desk and rests his head on his hands.
At the moment, Shiro feels like he’ll burn from the embarrassment of being watched by how he undresses before changing his clothes.
It doesn’t help that the commander keeps the same poker face, making it difficult to read what is hiding behind these crimson eyes.
Despite that, the gray-eyed student doesn’t dare to ask Shiki to leave and endures such humiliation. On the other hand, it’s better than being forcibly undressed or threatened.
After Shiro handles the current task, he fixes his posture upon hearing the commander’s question. “Do you know why I asked you to wear this?”
“N-no, sir.” The gray-eyed male immediately replies.
“Starting today, you are my personal secretary.” Shiki announces.
“Then what about my studies?… Excuse me, but I cannot simply drop them.” The silver-haired male politely objects.
The supreme ruler gives a mocking look. “When you were supposed to be recruited in the army?”
After noticing how the secretary in front of him lowers his shoulders and widens his big, gray eyes as a scolded puppy, he cracks a smile. “After contacting the director of your university, I canceled them. Your mother was also informed about this as well. However, if you serve me well, I’ll fund your university.”
Yet, Shiro becomes pale and hangs his head as he sells his soul to the devil when he hears such a decision.
For sure, such an unexpected reaction entertains Shiki, and he asks. “What’s wrong? Anyone else would be ready to bite into each other’s throats just to be in your position. You’ll even support and honor your family.”
Meanwhile, Shiro understands that no matter how far he runs from the war and to avoid staining his hands with blood, he doesn’t escape his bitter fate. Yet, he is still curious whether he’ll be killed like Shiki’s previous secretary.
Therefore, he gathers all his courage and acts as formally as possible. “I’m… I’m sorry, sir. I just got overwhelmed a bit… and I won’t do it again. However, there is one thing that I need to ask, of course, if I can.”
After clenching his hands into fists, he asks. “If I’m not mistaken, you already had a secretary. Did anything happen to him?”
Unfortunately, he doesn’t realize that the commander can read him like an open, predictable book or that it is just a quick pass of time for him.
“He decided he needs to take a long vacation before he’ll be able to continue his duties.” Shiki calmly explains.
“I see…” the silver-haired secretary replies.
In the end, even if Shiro is aware this won’t end well, for now, he has to play along with his new role. Otherwise, his fears will come true.
After all, like any great leader, Commander Shiki is like a sun - for those who are far away from him will freeze to death, while those who are too close will burn. Therefore, one should aim for the perfect balance of staying around the middle.
Unfortunately, Shiro understands the harsh truth that his side was picked for him. And thus, he has to learn to live like constantly walking on eggshells for his own survival.

Meanwhile, in one room of the Isolation Unit. One certain Kusanagi is sitting in bed, and while he leans against the wall, he turns his head away from his cell door and stares at a blank wall.
It has been a couple of weeks since he was imprisoned by NESTS, and a few days since he learned about his mission partner’s tragic fate. However, he is slowly becoming accustomed to this place and doesn’t mind spending the rest of his life here.
At least, this is a suitable punishment for a criminal like him who failed the mission, and his mistake cost him Shingo’s life.
Therefore, perhaps he is kept alive to repent of his sins. Or so the brunette thinks as he closes his eyes and exhales as he sinks into a gloomier mood.
At this point, he is too exhausted to end his miserable life and has given up the hope of leaving this place. Even if he attempted to escape, he would have nowhere to stay. One worry is adopting a new identity, while another is the potential discovery of his involvement in the rebel movement.
Besides, Kyo does not wish anyone from the Resistance Force to see him deeply fall from his grace, especially Yagami. After all, his long-time partner will be disappointed if he discovers how easily he was defeated and marked by the enemy while submitting to these shameful acts.
“Whatever you are planning to do, please do not seek for me or come anywhere close. I don’t think that I could endure grieving another loss, Yagami. So, please forget me for your own sake. And do not try anything reckless, you fool…” The brunette silently prays while just imagining the redhead clenches his heart.
But for now, the sound of the automatic door opening startles him.
“How are you doing today, Kusanagi-kun?” The silver-haired scientist with glasses asks.
When he approaches Kyo, he notices that his test subject hasn’t touched his food or water ratio for two days. As he softens his gaze, he sits next to the Kusanagi.
After he wraps his arm around the brunette’s shoulder, who shows no reaction, he brings him closer. “I understand you are still not over your friend’s death. However, you cannot neglect yourself.”
“Not because you’ll grow weak and die, but I might get into deep trouble, and it would cost me my job, and we do not want that, do we?” Or so Professor Kurama keeps in his mind.
“Unfortunately, I’m afraid that this is the last day of your stay here. Starting today, you will be transferred to the research facility.” He adds in a chill tone.
When he presses Kyo against his chest, he ruffles his hair. “But you do not need to worry. You will be under doctor Makishima’s care. As long as you follow hers or the researchers’ instructions, you should be fine.”
At the moment, the professor’s words have no weight or meaning to him. It is just sweet nothing before he is sent to the deeper level of his own Avici.
After Kurama releases the brunette from the soft embrace, he kneels in front of him. As he holds his shoulder and stares into these dull amber eyes, he gives him a comforting smile. “The doctor is already waiting for us. So, shall we go?”
When he helps Kyo to stand up, he walks him through the door.
While on their way, the brunette hung his head.
Meanwhile, the blonde doctor fixes her glasses while keeping her hand in the coat’s pocket.
As this couple stands in front of her, she briefly cracks a smile. “It’s been a while, Kusanagi. How was your stay here?”
Yet, she receives no response from the silent brunette. “Either way, I assume that the professor Kurama informed you about your further plans.”
But for now, Makishima addresses the silver-haired male. “So, from now, we’ll take him over, professor.”
“You heard her, Kusanagi-kun? So, why don’t go with her?” Kurama speaks up.
After he turns his back to the blonde, he wraps his arm around Kyo. As he grins like a snake, he whispers into his ear. “Just wait for me, and will come to rescue you, Kusanagi-kun.”
For sure, it makes Kyo widen his eyes and freeze in the same spot as if being in the giant snake’s grasp, which flickers its split tongue. However, when he feels how gently the professor’s hand pushes him forward, he returns to this world.
In the end, as he walks with Makishima, he turns his head and notices that the silver-haired male closes his eyes and innocently smiles and waves while keeping his other arm behind his back.
A couple of days pass. The fluffy silver-haired male twice looks around his shoulder, making sure that no one follows him into his room.
Fortunately, none of the blonde doctor’s underlings are anywhere around.
After the brunette arrived in his new cell, he accidentally chirped too much for the doctor about the unauthorized test samples that Kurama took.
Even if the silver-haired male wasn’t aware of what Kyo had told, he was certain - Makishima wasn’t too happy about it.
Therefore, all the Kusanagi’s clones, which were not fully developed along the prototype and all documentation, were confiscated, and Kurama’s research ceased.
Even a few scientists who assisted him turned their backs on him and witnessed against him.
After Doctor Makishima reported the current situation to NESTS, instead of being shot, Professor Kurama’s every movement was monitored while working in the isolation unit.
However, his old friend still passed him a pair of communication devices, which signals cannot be tracked even by the NESTS or the Empire.
Who also knew that not murdering that defective, undocumented clone and keeping her locked in the closet during the investigation could be his key to retrieving Kyo and escaping from this place?
More importantly, showing decent behavior towards that replica brought a fine harvest. After all, that clone was blindly trustful and obedient, and she could do anything without questioning if Kurama just asked.
But for now, as the silver-haired male enters inside, the automatic door closes behind him.
After he reaches his bed and sits on it, he turns on the transmission device. Unfortunately, when he tries to dial one certain brunette, the blue holographic screen turns red, showing an error message.
At the moment, Kurama bites his nails and hisses. “Strange… She always picks it up. Don’t tell me she was killed. I knew I shouldn’t have expected much from a mere copy. How unfortunate...”
As he lowers his head and grids his teeth, he grasps the transmission device and tosses it on the ground.
When he lowers his head, he cracks a smile. “Well, even if my last hope has died, I will still find a way to how to get you out of there. So, wait for me for a bit longer, Kusanagi-kun.”
Back to the Resistance Force Headquarters. As soon as one couple of soldiers returns, Shingo hands over the slumbering male clone of the Kusanagi to the group of medics and leaves him under their care.
Meanwhile, the restrained brunette shrugs and steps back after seeing so many people in white coats in one place.
What if they are working together with the same person who imprisoned her dad and going to bring her back to the same white room and run tests on her? More so, this time nobody will ruffle her hair afterwards and praise her for enduring another experiment.
“Where are you taking Nii-sama and what are you going to do with him?” The female replica indignantly asks one of the medical staff while staying close to Iori and refusing to leave his side.
“We’re taking him to the medical unit, ma’am. However, we would also ask you to go with us.” One medic briefly explains.
“I’m not going anywhere.” The brunette backfires. After a brief pause, she continues, pointing in the redhead’s direction. “Unless he is coming together. How else I can be sure that you won’t trick me?”
For sure, such an attitude slowly gets on Iori’s nerves, and he rolls his eyes.
Yet, he tries to remain calm and addresses the remaining personnel. “Why are you still here? Don’t you have a job to do? I’ll take that woman to the medical unit even if I need to drag her, if that concerns you.”
And thus, after the medic nods, he rushes towards his team.
Lastly, he grabs this replica by her arm and prompts her to go.
Meanwhile, the brunette frowns and objects. “Oi, what do you think you’re doing?”
However, Iori only murmurs. “Why do you have to be so annoying?”
The female replica only raises her eyebrow. “Eh? Did you say anything? If you have anything to say, say it clearly, and not mumble like an old grumpy man.”
“Of all clones, why does this one have to have such an attitude?” Yagami wonders while hoping that the sooner he brings this Kusanagi’s look-alike, the sooner he can have peace of mind.
More so, no matter how he doesn’t want to admit it, he has to get along with this replica, because she might guide him where Kyo is.
Some time passes. On the way to the Medical Unit, the brunette realizes she is the center of everyone’s attention.
At first, she does her best to keep her pride and confidence despite being a prisoner in unknown territory.
Unfortunately, it becomes a difficult task when she can feel the male soldiers fixating their eyes on her with such morbid curiosity. For now, she gives a questioning look at Yagami. “Hey, why are they staring at me like that? Do I look that weird?”
Meanwhile, Iori only grids his teeth and gives a deadly glare to anyone who looks in their direction.
At the moment, he can swear that even one wrong gesture or word will be enough to send anyone flying across the hallway.
He's not interested in a fake version of Kyo or the attention of these men they are giving her, but he's just tired and frustrated. Or so Iori convinces himself.
But for now, he exhales. “Just don’t pay too much attention to it.”
“If you say so. However, they are not dad’s co-workers. So, why they are so fixated on me and can’t mind their own business? It’s not that they need to test or confirm something for the research.” The brunette honestly replies.
Instead of making unnecessary comments, Iori holds back.
After reaching their destination place the automated door opens, and both enter inside.
As Yagami makes his way through rushing medical personnel, he notices the staff gathered around one healing capsule.
“Hey, Kagura. I brought that pesky clone.” The redhead addresses the certain doctor.
When the ebony-haired woman turns back, she replies. “Welcome back.”
As she takes a better look at the tied-up Kyo’s look-alike standing next to him, she briefly gets confused. Despite that, she comments. “You do almost resemble Kusanagi as if you were his sibling…”
Yet, the brunette demands the answers. “I dunno who is Kusanagi, but all I know is that Nii-sama is here. So, where is he, and what have you done to him?”
“You can rest assured. Your brother is fine, and he just needs plenty of rest.” Chizuru reassures her and lets her get closer to the capsule, where the prototype peacefully slumbers.
“Nii-sama…” the female clone whispers in a nearly pitiful voice.
A second later, the dark-haired woman adds in a serious tone. “But for now, I would ask you to cooperate with us. At first, I would need to need to examine you properly.”
Lastly, she addresses Iori. “You can leave now… And thank you for what have you done.”
“Whatever… Just be careful and don’t be tricked by her. She might look weak and innocent, but she is as strong as Kyo.” The redhead replies as he turns back and raises his palm. Finally, he walks away while keeping his hands in his pants pockets.
Meanwhile, the female replica tries to over-talk Kagura. “Do I really I have to do this?”
“I’m afraid that this is the only way how can I can check if you are injured. However, later on, you can change into clean pajama.” The dark-haired doctor patiently replies.
“That is the very first thing that dad gave me. So, there is no way I’ll let you discard it!” The brunette objects while pointing out at her body suit.
“But what if I promise you I will keep it for you? And I’m sure that your father would be relieved knowing that you are alright or not sick.” Chizuru continues negotiating with the brunette.
At first, the female replica doubts her intentions, yet she lowers her guard temporally. “Alright. I trust you for now, I guess. Besides, you wear the same coat as my dad. So, you can’t be a bad person, right?”
In the end, Chizuru closes her eyes and ruffles the clone’s hair as a small sign of gratitude.
Several hours pass. It is the middle of the night, and everyone is already asleep in the bunkers.
Unfortunately, one redhead’s peaceful rest is disturbed by the sensation of someone sleeping next to him.
Suddenly, he widens his eyes and turns to check whether he is still dreaming.
Not only does he realize he is not alone, but he also has a weird feeling about who might be that fearless fool who asks for their death wish.
No matter how much he is tempted to kick out the sleeping brunette, he understands it will awaken everyone, and he’ll get into trouble.
For now, Iori nuzzles the female clone while whispering. “Hey, enough sleeping. Wake up.”
Yet, the brunette only frowns and replies in a sleepy voice. “What is your problem? If you can’t sleep, at least let the others, you know.”
That woman wants to test his patience limits, doesn’t she? Iori thinks to himself while facepalming.
Instead, he shortly instructs. “Get up. We’re leaving.”
“Where? I’m fine staying here.” The Kusanagi’s look-alike objects. When she climbs on top of Iori, she rests her arms on his chest and smiles like a feline. “And I could use you as a pillow.”
It might be pointless arguing with this pesky troublemaker any further. Therefore, he has to figure out how to make this creature leave without causing problems.
“How did you get there? And what do you want from me?” The redhead asks.
The brunette lowers her gaze. “I didn’t want to sleep alone, and dad didn’t mind it either when I was still in the lab because he told that it would be warmer. So, I don’t get why are you complaining?”
After a brief pause, she confesses. “Even if I had no idea that you were staying here, I just simply followed my intuition.’’
When she places a palm on her chest, she continues. “As if, deep inside me, there was a part of me telling me I should trust you and seek you despite you being such an idiot. Heck, just listening to that strong feeling, I also guessed the password of this room. So, now I wonder what kind of relationship you had with Nii-sama…”
After listening to these words, Yagami explains. “I have nothing to do with that cheap copy.”
Surely, it confuses this clone. “But dad shown me a photo of Nii-sama, and asked me to bring him. He even entrusted this task to me because he told me I was the only one who could do it.”
“Then your father tricked you. You two are nothing more dull replicas of Kyo.” Iori briefly replies.
The brunette only gets bewildered by this man’s words and speaks up. “You’re… you’re lying. Dad is a very kind person and why else he would have told me that everyone else who looked like Nii-sama were fakes and I shouldn’t feel bad for them? Or that a bad people, who are stole his hard work, made them?”
“If your father truly cared about you, why hasn't he reached out? You are just a tool for him or for whoever these bastards to kidnapped Kyo and made you. For fuck's sake, even after you reunited with your brother, you should have noticed any differences between that photo or him in person.” The redhead backfires.
The female clone hangs her head and remains silent for a while.
After receiving no answers, Iori asks while keeping his poker face. “What’s wrong? Does the truth hurt you?”
She only shakes her head in disbelief. “I… I don’t understand. Why dad wanted me to bring Nii-sama to him, if he isn’t Original? It makes no sense.”
“This is what I want to know as well, and you will help me find Kyo and rescue him.” The redhead replies in a calm tone.
Meanwhile, this replica remarks. “You seem to adore and care about my original a lot. Now, I kinda get it why that one part of me cannot help but feel attracted towards you. Maybe you are not that bad person if he feels that way.”
As the brunette genially smiles, she adds. “After all, dad mentioned to me once that I share not only Original’s skills but also his emotions and at some point his memories.”
Yet, when she notices the dumbfounded redhead, she raises her eyebrow. “Hey, what’s wrong you with you? Did I say anything wrong? Or didn’t you know this?”
After Iori turns his head and closes his eyes, he tries to remain calm. “And you are poking your nose into the others’ business like him.”
When he gets up, he addresses this replica. “Either way, let’s get you back to your room.”
Despite not comprehending Yagami's reaction earlier, the brunette still does what he asks.

Another day, another daily morning checkup. That is just a part of the military secretary’s routine. Despite it being only an ordinary procedure, Akira treats it as a responsibility as the captain of his squad.
After all, no matter how big or small his task, he takes it seriously and carefully. Akira finds the greatest reward in not only preparing a proper report but also making the commander happy.
But for now, as he reads the next name on the list, he closes his eyes and frowns after he doesn’t receive an immediate answer.
“Tatsuya.” The silver-haired secretary repeats.
The rookie soldier gets startled, yet after he straightens his back, he responds in a confused voice. “Y-yes!”
“Haven’t you slept enough at home? Pay attention next time.” Akira reminds.
As soon as the entire squad either snorts or murmurs among themselves, it gets cut by the cold, piercing glare of the military secretary alone.
After he closes his eyes, he continues checking the list.
Meanwhile, the scolded brunette lowers his head, wondering how someone almost the same age as him, if not younger, is already acting like a cold, bitter old man who never lived a day as a human.
More so, he heard the rumors that even off his duties, Akira kept that strict, stoic posture and married his job.
He can't use his position to treat people badly or expect too much from new recruits. Tatsuya thinks while remembering his sore arms and back from the captain’s last punishment.
Apparently, last week, he was late for only five minutes.
Yet, the military secretary didn’t bother to listen to any excuses and made him stand outside the corridor holding a water bucket in each arm without lowering them.
One thing was enduring the weight, and another was being an entertainment for anyone who passed by.
The captain was a demon who enjoyed torturing anyone for the tiniest mistakes. Tatsuya was convinced. Soon, he completely changed his mind.
A few days ago, he was minding his own business until he accidentally saw Captain Akira carrying a pile of papers and stopping for a bit.
At first glance, it may look like nothing unusual. However, something caught the brunette’s eye.
When the secretary checked the documents, his stone-cold face changed by something that might be considered impossible and even out of the mortal realm.
Apparently, the silver-haired male softened his gaze and smiled when his fingers picked one of the papers without caring about anyone in the world.
Of course, Tatsuya was in awe by spotting that the captain was showing human emotions and realizing that he witnessed a miracle.
Unfortunately, such a sight lasted as long as a shooting star. Thus, when the blue-eyed male fixed the papers, he returned to the known preserved secretary.
Despite this moment being brief, it left a lasting impression on the rookie soldier, who couldn’t stop thinking about it and longed to see it again.
Back to the present. Some time passes, and it’s finally the afternoon.
Today, the brunette hopes he’ll break the ice between them and befriend the captain.
From what he heard, Akira should prepare and serve the afternoon’s tea and snacks around this time. If so, perhaps, if he is in a better mood, he might spare even a single minute of his precious time.
Of course, if they won’t miss each other, which would be a shame. After all, the brunette had to pay one of the soldiers to cover his back to skip the duties. Or so Tatsuya thinks to himself.
The blue-eyed secretary leaves the kitchen with the goods and goes to the commander's office, unaware of being followed.
A few minutes pass. Finally, it’s the moment of truth!
After the brunette fixes the collar of his shirt and takes a deep breath, he approaches his unsuspecting captain. “Captain. Um, there is something I need to talk about with you.”
Akira only glimpses at him before shooing him. “Did anything happen? Whatever it is, if that is not urgent, it can wait.”
Yet, the rookie soldier is more stubborn and doesn’t give up.
“Captain, that looks heavy. So, let me help you.” The brunette insists.
However, as he is about to take the tray, Akira stops and gracefully lifts it.
“No, thank you. I can handle it on my own.” The silver-haired secretary declines.
After he lowers his arms, he raises an eyebrow. “By the way, if I’m not mistaken, there is supposed to be a first aid course in the afternoon. So, what are you doing here?”
“Shit, that’s no good! I’m deep in trouble now. He’s going to ditch me for real. Mom, Dad, sorry for disappointing you.” Tatsuya bethinks when Akira narrows his gaze, judging him like a criminal and waiting for his explanation.
After a temporary pause, the secretary closes his eyes and sighs.
Lastly, he addresses Tatsuya. “I wouldn’t have arranged these courses if that was a waste of time. It’s a crucial skill that is mandatory to know because it will help you to survive. More importantly, instead of fleeing away and abandoning your team like a coward, you could save someone’s life and have a higher chance of defeating the enemy.”
The brunette only lowers his head like a scolded puppy. “Y-yes, sir… Then, I will be going!”. Despite convincing himself that he should be glad he paid off only getting lectured, he is more upset that his plan didn’t work.
Perhaps another day will be better. Tatsuya ponders while heading back to the auditorium. Right now, he takes it as a defeat in the fight but not in the battle and plans for another move.
Another day, another chance. This time, the brunette plans to wait as soon as his break starts and check if the captain is in his office.
Suddenly, the morning checkup is interrupted by someone opening the gate.
While Tatsuya is as perplexed as anyone else in his squad, he observes how Akira salutes the approaching commander without hesitation or fear, only showing pure respect for this man.
“I beg your pardon, sir. It’s a huge honor that you decided to pay a visit. But what brings you here?” The reserved secretary asks.
Perhaps the captain is numb or lucky not to feel Shiki’s lingering, menacing, cold energy. The brunette wonders.
“Do I ever needed any excuses to check on anyone?” The red-eyed male asks.
“No. Not all, sir,” Akira politely replies.
Lastly, the commander orders. “Good. Continue your work.”
Meanwhile, the brunette feels nervous about Shiki’s presence alone, and he can swear that the commander isn’t that focused on the captain, as he is waiting for any soldier to make a single wrong move or breath at the wrong time.
More so, he doesn’t understand how the military secretary acts as if the most powerful man in the country is not next to him.
Some time passed. Finally, it’s time for the break.
Who knew that the military tyrant was much scarier in person than he heard? In any case, his plan should go smoothly, and it was only a once-in-a-lifetime experience to encounter That Man. Tatsuya wonders as he shrugs at the thought of Shiki alone while wandering in the corridor.
Speaking of which...
Apparently, as he gets closer, he notices Akira leaning against the wall next to his office door while being cornered by Shiki, talking about something.
Soon enough, the military tyrant wraps his arm around his subordinate’s waist and brings him closer.
More so, the brunette cannot unsee the commander’s possessive eyes focusing on his prey while placing his palm on his cheek, nor how the captain is calm.
At this point, Tatsuya feels he is walking into the wrong place at the wrong time. Therefore, it might be wiser to turn back and withdraw.
When he turns his head, he notices Shiki is giving him a victorious glare as a giant feline who shows its conquered territory while the once-serious secretary closes his eyes and submits to the supreme ruler.
That fucking ugly bastard is using his power to take advantage of Akira! So, who knows how long the captain was enduring this? However, he cannot do much in his current position nor oppose the supreme leader without risking his and his family’s life. Tatsuya realizes as his rage grows.
Despite that, the brunette has a powerful urge to snap out of Akira and make him realize he needs someone better who would treasure him instead of bullying him. Someone who will protect him and keep him safe from the rest of the world.
And thus, a few days pass.
Perhaps the captain will change his mind and go out with him today. After all, it’s Friday, and it should be fine to relax by the end of the week. The brunette thinks to himself while following Akira from a distance.
For now, the unsuspecting military secretary’s eyes carefully scan through the bookshelves. As his fingers gently run through each book, his hand gracefully picks the wanted item.
However, the silver-haired male widens his eyes upon hearing a familiar voice behind him. “There have you been, captain. I was looking for you for a while.”
A second later, he closes his eyes and briefly exhales before facing a certain soldier.
“What you want?” Akira strictly asks.
“Um, I want to ask you one thing. You see… I was meaning to do it earlier, but I didn’t know how to say it and you seem to be always so busy…” Tatsuya replies while rubbing his nape and lowering his head.
“You can tell me whatever it is.” The silver-haired secretary replies.
As Tatsuya straightens his back, he clenches his hands into fists and announces. “Please, go out with me!”
When the blue-eyed secretary steps back, he raises his eyebrow and hugs the held books. “Huh?”
After noticing such a genial reaction, the brunette shakily raises his palms and defends himself. “I, I didn’t mean that way!… What I meant is… Well, not quite that but…”
While he observes the doubting secretary, he proposes. “You know, I thought maybe we could go out for a couple of drinks and have a good time. You’ve been so tensed and maybe that could help to forget about the job or the commander, even if that is for a moment.”
After hearing these words, even the preserved military secretary’s poker face slightly cracks and frowns. Yet, he does his best to contain his emotions and holds back from the violence.
When Akira closes his eyes and lifts his head, he walks by the pesky soldier. “If you have nothing to say and are planning to waste my time, I’m leaving.”
Suddenly, Akira widens his eyes and stops as someone grabs his arm.
“Wait! I… I didn’t mean to upset you. All I want is to help you because… because I care about you, -er, I mean your well-being.” The brunette confesses while giving a begging gaze.
The silver-haired male only narrows his gaze and immediately brushes his arm. “Let me go.”
When he reaches the exit door and places his hand on the handle, it freezes after hearing Tatsuya’s comment. “I know that the commander harasses you. I saw it several times.”
For sure, it makes Akira’s heart drop down on his heels, and his stomach twists. Despite that, he turns back and keeps a serious face.
Meanwhile, the brunette gives a concerned look. “You don’t need to pretend that you have the feelings for that twisted bastard or endure it. I don’t like how someone touches you. That coward is using his power and taking advantage of your naiveness. It’s not alright. Just because the commander sees you as his personal whore, you don’t have to pretend to be one. But I’m here for you and to support you because, because I…”
He wanted to tell him how much he loved him, but… if only it was that simple.
Firstly, Tatsuya understands that both of them have different positions of power. After all, he is just a private soldier, and Akira is the right hand of the most powerful man in the country.
Therefore, it’s understandable if the secretary won’t want to ruin his reputation by messing around with a low-rank soldier like him.
Secondly, what if the blue-eyed male’s heart is taken by someone else? There is a chance that his precious captain doesn’t feel the same.
More importantly, what if Akira was disgusted by something weird and gross as another guy confessing his feelings to him?
But for now, Akira only gives a questioning look and approaches him.
On the other hand, it seems that luck is on the brunette’s side.
Perhaps his words reached his adored person’s heart. Or so Tatsuya believes when the military secretary silently stares at him and extends his palm to touch his cheek. “…Captain.”
Suddenly, the harsh sound of slapping echoes through the entire library.
While the brunette remains shocked, Akira gives him a cold shoulder. “Keep your foul thoughts to yourself. This time, I’ll let you go with a warning. However, if such behavior repeats in the future, the outcome will be different. Please, think twice before opening your mouth.”
In the end, Private Tatsuya is left alone with a pulsing sensation of the stinging pain on his cheek and betrayal. Nevertheless, it only makes him desire Akira much more.
After all, the captain is brainwashed and manipulated by the commander. Yet, the blue-eyed male did this to protect him, didn’t he?
Therefore, he must free Akira from that twisted man’s claws and make him realize what is good for him. Soon, Commander Shiki should face his downfall and pay for what he has done. Or so the brunette realizes while scheming how to achieve his plan.
It’s the beginning of another week. This time, the brunette uses his chance when Akira has an important meeting with the commander and other high-ranking officers.
That’s why, when no one is around, Tatsuya picks a small flathead screwdriver and a thin nail file and begins to break the locked office door.
Of course, he has to work carefully, but fast. Otherwise, he’ll get caught in the same spot.
Gladly, it’s not a complicated lock compared to what he had picked in his childhood. Or so the brunette thinks as, eventually, he hears the cracking noise.
And thus, without wasting time, he enters the commander’s office.
For now, all he left is to wait until Shiki shows up to strike him.
So, it’s only a matter of time before the captain will be rescued and safe from that awful man. Or so Tatsuya convinces to himself as he takes the combat knife from the side of his belt and stares at the naked blade.
Some time passed. Suddenly, the brunette is alerted by the opening door.
Despite having a loud heartbeat, he takes a deep breath and grasps the knife.
One sudden move and the blade sinks into his enemy.
However, Tatsuya becomes pale and freezes in terror upon hearing a yelp and barely comprehends what he has done.
While Akira’s face twists in pain, he shakily places his gloved palm around the stabbed shoulder. “Co… commander… run! It’s… it’s a trap…”
Just before the military secretary collapses, Shiki manages to wrap his arms from behind and slowly sits Akira against the wall.
Soon enough, the commander’s face darkens, and lowers his head. After he stands up, he turns around and pulls the sword from the sheath.
At that moment, the rookie soldier shakes his head while muttering and stepping back.
Even if he tripped over, he desperately crawls backward, begging for forgiveness, and without removing his eyes from Shiki, who radiates a pure fury and hatred for his opponent.
“That’s your last words, you filthy trash?” The red-eyed male growls.
However, just before Shiki swings the blade and slays the terrified soldier, he is stopped by his secretary’s voice. “Not yet, sir!”
The supreme ruler turns his gaze at his secretary.
But for now, he listens to his wounded subordinate, who remains professional even in situations like this. “You can do whatever you please with that traitor, sir. However… however, first, I need to know how… how did he get here… Or… or if someone else helped him.”
Yet, instead of wasting time on unnecessary sentiments, Shiki cracks a smile and fixates his attention on the brunette.
Now, he aims at the same hand that hurt his precious secretary and cuts it.
As Tatsuya screams, he covers the lost limb and pleads for mercy.
Meanwhile, Shiki remains indifferent to the brunette’s suffering and looks down on him. “Pathetic. A worm like you don’t even deserve to die.”
A second later, he curves a sadistic smile. “…Not yet.”
When the military tyrant proudly turns around, he walks toward the injured secretary to pick him up. And thus, Tatsuya is left alone.
Eventually, a group of officers shows up. As the brunette’s cut arm gets aided, he listens to how one of these men briefly informs him about his incoming punishment tomorrow and how he’ll need to answer a few questions for the supreme ruler.
In the end, Tatsuya remains silent and closes his eyes as he gets lifted and dragged to the interrogation room. At that moment, he realizes that his death is inevitable and he should accept it.
After all, Tatsuya was so blinded by the rage and bloodlust that he didn’t realize he’d end up harming the person he swore to protect. Therefore, that’s his price to pay before reaching the gateway to hell. Or so the brunette wonders as he gets closer and closer, reaching the interrogation room.

After Iori carefully lowers the supposed-to-be Kyo, he growls without removing his gaze from his opponent. "The hell with you!… Kyo is mine!" Lastly, he stands up and turns on his saber blade.
When the redhead turns his head towards Shingo, he orders, "Stay out of this, got it?"
Yet, the younger brunette objects, "But we may defeat him easier if we team up, Yagami-san."
"I said, DO NOT INTERFERE! Just keep Kyo safe, you fucking idiot!" Iori briefly retorts. Finally, he rushes at his new opponent while Shingo only silently stares.
Meanwhile, the dark soldier places their hand on the helmet’s side and speaks up. “Dad, can you hear me? These two guys refuse to cooperate. What should I?-”
Suddenly, this person dodges Yagami’s attack.
“Is everything alright?” Kurama’s voice asks while the black soldier blocks the upper slash.
“I’m… Yeah. It’s just… All I need is to defeat these two types. So, wait for me, Dad… Over.” The mysterious person replies while evading and counter-attacking each Iori’s strike.
For sure, such an arrogant attitude only boils the redhead’s rage, and he uses more heavy slashing.
However, he notices the dark Imperial troop’s movement is as agile and graceful yet deadly as the original’s.
There are moments when Yagami doubts if it’s brainwashed Kyo.
After all, this soldier aims not to kill his opponent but to knock him out or injure him.
Suddenly, Iori widens his eyes as he blocks the enemy’s lower cut. Even while their blade clashes, his heartbeat becomes rapid and loud.
More so, he cannot read what kind of face his opponent has behind the platinum helmet with intimidating, sharp fangs. All he can see is the colorful sparkles reflecting on the metal mask.
When the black soldier lowers his blade, Iori uses his chance and aims at the open torso.
Unfortunately, his strike is blocked.
“Give up. You have no chance against me. Besides, you are just a waste of my and Dad’s time.” This troop calmly addresses him as he picks up the laser gun and points it against Iori’s forehead.
However, the redhead only lowers his head. “We’ll see about that.”
When he drops his saber blade, he reveals his bare fangs and picks up the pistol. “Eat this!”
Suddenly, as the metal helmet and body armor explode and shatter into pieces, the soldier screams in a too-high-pitched voice for a guy.
For now, Iori only observes how his opponent hits the ground.
“It… it hurts!” The soldier speaks up in a pitiful, feminine voice while shakily covering their face with the palm.
The first thing Yagami notices is that this wobbling person has slightly longer hair than Kyo, a rather curvy, slim figure, wearing a torn in several places body suit.
Lastly, Iori freezes in the same spot and remains speechless when the mysterious person removes their palm from their face. “The fuck is this?”
Apparently, it’s a female Kyo clone. When she wipes the dripping blood from her forehead and lifts her head, she adds. “You won’t get away with this.”
Yagami only cracks a smile as he approaches the clone. “This is where you are wrong, bitch.”
When he places his palm on the brunette’s shoulder, he chuckles. A second later, he punches her stomach. “Know your place, you filthy trash!”
While the poor replica covers her stomach and shakily breathes, she refuses to cry and show weakness in front of this cruel man. For now, she only painfully stares at the redhead.
Yet, Iori shows no mercy. After he grabs the female clone by her throat, he lifts her. “Look at you. You’re disgusting and shouldn’t be born at all. It’s all your fault. I don’t care if you are a woman. You’ll die like the rest of your kind!”
Meanwhile, Shingo only observes in terror how his partner is about to take another life while hugging the pale, unconscious Kusanagi.
“I don’t want this… No, I don’t want to see anyone dying on me. Not anymore.” The brunette soldier thinks to himself, as he cannot remove his eyes from the struggling clone who desperately clings to her life. In the end, he closes his eyes and turns his head away.
In the meantime, the female replica holds onto Iori’s wrists while her throat is under pressure. She's aware that her death may be near. Despite that, she says in a weak voice. “Because… because of you… I’ll upset Dad… Dad… Dad will be sad… I… I… won’t forgive you!”
When Iori notices that this clone doesn’t have a metal plate on her forehead like other replicas, he shakes his head and grins. “You should be thankful to me. At least you know when you die.” And thus, he activates his saber blade. “Rot in hell!”
Suddenly, the laser bullet closely flies to his face, and he freezes in the same spot. As he drops the struggling brunette, he hears a voice behind him. “Enough! I will not stand this any longer, Yagami-san!”
As the ferocious redhead approaches him, Yabuki adds while grinding his teeth. “Too many innocent people died in vain death… and all because of you and your blind rage! I can bet my life that Kusanagi-san would also hate you now! Wake up. YOU BECOME A MONSTER, YAGAMI-SAN!”
It was the last drop of Iori’s patience. Now, he grabs Shingo by his uniform and brings him closely. “What did you just say to me? Repeat it one more time, you little dipshit!”
Shingo only replies while having nothing to lose. “Do it. I’m not afraid of you. I know that you just shake off my corpse. Then, you gonna murder these two and aimlessly go after another victim until you’ll get killed by another bloodthirsty killer like you.”
“What are you talking about? It’s Kyo, and he is going with me.” Iori briefly backfires.
Meanwhile, the female clone only sits on her knees and hugs herself while regaining breath. “Leave Nii-sama alone, you freak!”
Yet, she refuses to give up and weakly approaches them.
After Iori turns his head and glares at this replica, he immediately turns back upon hearing the pale brunette groaning.
In the end, the supposed-to-be Kusanagi’s heir shakily opens his eyes.
Yet, both Resistance Force soldiers are in deep disbelief after noticing how Kyo’s eyes glow in crimson color.
“Nii-sama!” the wounded brunette addresses him while making her way through to hug her sibling.
“Everything gonna be alright, Nii-sama. Soon we’ll see Dad and the three of us will live happily forever and after.” She continues comforting the other clone, who isn’t aware of his surroundings or understands anything.
Meanwhile, Iori is still in denial. “The hell? Who is that freak? Why he is not Kyo? Did I come all the way here just to see another trash?” As he clenches his hands into fists, he lowers his head.
Fortunately, this time Shingo notices his partner’s actions. And thus, before Yagami raises his blade, he sends a harsh slap across his face.
For now, he calmly adds. “Please, don’t, Yagami-san. We’re going to report about it to the Headquarters. What if they may help you? No, to help us find Kusanagi-san’s whereabouts. Believe it or not, but I, like everyone else, want to save Kusanagi-san and see him again.”
Certainly, it was a good wake-up call for Iori, who is still shocked. Soon enough, he returns to his senses. Yet, he only turns around and keeps his hands in his pants pockets. “Do as you wish… But it’s your fault if they will choke you in your dreams.”
Lastly, Shingo extends his hand to these clones. “I know nothing about you. However, all I know is that you want to live as much as anyone else. And that is enough for me.”
Yet, the female clone hits his hand and backfires. “Stay away! I won’t let you hurt Nii-sama! Just you wait until dad shows up! He’ll punish you for bullying us!”
Meanwhile, Iori rolls his eyes and face-palms. “This ain’t going anywhere, you fucking idiot. Why do I have to do everything by myself?”
Poor Yabuki is confused about what to do. He even keeps his palms away from these replicas. “Um… well, I. I mean, we won’t hurt you. All we want is to help you. I… I promise that guys in the Resistance will treat you well. And we are also looking for your dad. So, we are the Good Guys, I guess...”
“I warn you. Back off before I punch you!” This artificial creature replies while giving a fierce, protective gaze.
Suddenly, Yagami makes his way and parts the clones. “You’re so annoying, you stupid woman!”
When he pushes the resisting brunette to lie on her stomach, he holds her wrists behind her back.
For now, he turns his head to Shingo and orders. “Give me your jacket.”
Meanwhile, this replica continues to struggle and gives an indignant look. “Let me go, you ugly bastard! Get off me! Or else you gonna regret it.”
Yet, Shingo doubts his partner. “Yagami-san, do you really need to do this? She clearly doesn’t like this.”
“No shit, huh? And you were happy when she attacked us? Just hurry up, and do it.” Iori replies while ignoring the struggling clone’s threats.
In the end, Yabuki sighs and follows the command. “I’m sorry. So, please, don’t get mad at me because I have no other choice. All I want is to help you two.”
When he hands his jacket to the redhead, Iori uses it as a rope and ties the replica’s hand. After he throws the brunette over his shoulder like a sack of potatoes, this look-alike demands. “Don’t you dare? Do not think of doing it! No… Put me down! I said, put me down and untie me!”
However, Iori remains unaffected by such indignant demands when she kicks him back. For now, he only rolls his eyes, checking that the brunette doesn’t fall. “Say what you want, but you’re going with us. Then you can tell us about your father from all your heart’s content.” After he walks, he prompts Shingo to take the other clone with him and leave this place.
On their way, Yabuki contacts the Headquarters and tells them about the underground laboratory, cloning, and that they are not coming back alone.
Some time passes. Somewhere in the vast of the galaxy. While Iori chills in the pilot seat, he comments. “It’s unusually peaceful here. Did that stupid clone finally snap out?”
Instead of saying anything, Shingo remains silent without interfering. After all, his presence will be ignored again.
After Iori turns to see what is happening in the backseat, he sees how a male replica of Kyo is dozing while the restrained brunette sits back and turns her head away.
“Not only you took the wrong spaceship, but you also heading the wrong direction. You know, it’s only the matter of time when dad will find you. So, I’m not afraid of you and I’ll stay strong for him.” She replies while lowering her gaze and refusing to face the redhead.
Yagami only cracks a smile. “Do you still believe in that? Whatever suits you. But soon you’ll speak differently when you realize that you were used by him to get his job done.”
As the brunette faces him, her eyes burn with determination. “You’re wrong! Unlike you, dad is a very kind and strong person. I know that he’ll come and when I’ll show him that Nii-sama is with me, I’ll make him happy. Then, I’ll finally become dad’s bride and I could show him how much I adore him. So, just you wait and see!”
After Yagami face-palms, he murmurs. “Sure you will… Just what the hell are these sickos up to? And why do they need Kyo?”
For now, he understands that if he wants to get actual information about his former partner; he has to befriend this artificial creature before finishing her.
When Iori brushes the hair from his face, he addresses the female clone. “Listen up. You’re not going to see him soon. However, once you’re recovered, we’ll bring you and your precious brother to your father. Any problems with that?”
The brunette only makes big eyes and dumbfounded stares. “What do you mean?”. After a momentary pause, the artificial creature’s eyes sparkle with excitement. “Oh… I see! But don’t you think that you’ll make me like you more, mister. You’re just slightly better than your friend. So, don’t set your hopes high, got it?”
In the end, the redhead returns to his seat and wonders. “If any of these clones are as intelligent as a child, what shady works or services they are trained for? After all, they cannot be just biological weapons.”
But for now, Yagami rests his head behind his hands and closes his eyes.

Several minutes pass. After the terrific screams and insane laughter ceased, the massacre is over. Or so the junior soldier assumes.
When he opens his eyes, he notices that the entire laboratory already looks like it after the powerful storm. Expect all that is done by the army of one man.
A second later, Shingo nearly jumps from his seat after hearing how footsteps getting louder. Soon, the redhead smeared in blood from head to toe looks down on him as an emotionless doll.
However, the brunette spots something behind his partner’s back. That naked body still weakly fights for its life and cries for help.
Suddenly, Iori brings Kyo’s clone next to him and holds it in front of him. Despite this poor creature grimacing in pain and whining, the redhead addresses the junior soldier in an exhausted voice ‘‘This is your last chance. Take responsibility.’’.
However, Yabuki does not know what Yagami is talking about and doesn’t know how to respond.
After a pause, the redhead demands ‘‘Pull the trigger. Now!’’.
Lastly, as the brunette stares at the begging clone, he shakes his head and objects in a nervous voice ‘‘No. I won’t do this! Please, do not make me do this. What if he is Kusanagi-san?’’.
Unfortunately, such an answer dissatisfied Iori, and when he lowers his head, he grids his teeth. ‘‘So, this is how it is. Coward…’’ Yagami spits out in a hateful tone.
Suddenly, he pushes Kyo’s look-alike and grabs his light-saber. One sudden move and the poor homunculus is cut in half.
As the corpse lands on Shingo, the redhead addresses him without showing mercy ‘‘Tsk. Let’s move on already.’’. When Iori turns around and wanders into the lab, the brunette remains frozen in the same spot as a cold body is pressing against him.
He is still in disbelief at how cruel his partner can become, why Kusanagi-san teamed up with him, and how he can stand this behavior.
However, instead of wondering any longer, Shingo closes his eyes and apologizes to the clone before carefully removing it and placing it on the ground. After standing up, he looks for the redhead.
Lastly, he finds Iori at the end of the laboratory and looks down at something. After looking closer, he notices a ladder leading to the lower floor.
‘‘We’re going in.’’ The redhead speaks up.
‘‘But what if there is nothing there? We are going to waste our time, Yagami-san.’’ The brunette politely objects.
Unfortunately, his words don’t reach his partner, who shakes his head and climbs down.
Such reckless behavior makes Shingo concerned, and he tries again to over-talk his partner ‘‘W-wait, Yagami-san! Should we report this to the Headquarters?’’. In the end, he is ignored. But he has no other choice than to follow the stubborn soldier.
After a while, the Resistance soldiers reach the bottom. Yet, the redhead gets alerted upon landing on something soft, wet, and squishy.
After looking around, Iori realizes both are in a corridor covered in flesh and intestines. Of course, such a scenery perturbs him, yet he is more determined that Kyo is waiting for him, and nothing else should matter to him.
On the other hand, the junior soldier is convinced that this place is not worth exploring because he can sense that something vile may attack them.
Although, instead of begging Yagami to listen to him and return to the base, Shingo understands it will be a useless effort. Yet, he cannot turn back and leave Iori to die alone. After all, Kusanagi-san would be upset to learn that his old-time partner was left to rot in the enemy base.
The further they go, the brunette realizes they might be wandering in the basement where are disposed the dead or defective testing subjects.
Yet, Yabuki feels bad for them because not only they were treated in the most inhumane ways but also how they lost the privilege to be buried before their eternal rest.
Even when he glances at these bloody lumps of meat and internal organs pulsing, he closes his eyes and shrugs. He isn’t sure whether he is more scared of what he sees or of the idea that even after these clones are dismembered, their remains are alive.
In any case, the brunette understands he needs to keep going.
The deeper they go, the more it feels like wandering inside a huge macro-organism. Even time from time, one of the glands of the wall aimlessly squirts stomach acid.
However, as a single droplet lands on the redhead’s uniform, he stops walking and exhales. Suddenly, he picks up his trustworthy saber and activates it. Lastly, as he slashes one gland, he remarks “You’re so annoying... STAY QUIET!”.
When the blood splashes like a stream next to Iori, a high-pitched scream can be heard in the distance.
Meanwhile, Shingo widens his eyes in terror and gasps as the several rising arms cling to his legs and slowly sink him into the meat floor. While the fear paralyzes the brunette’s body, he looks at the Iori “Ya-Yagami-san! Wh-what have you done!?”.
However, instead of picking the saber blade to cut the ferocious limbs, Shingo picks the handheld gun in both hands and aims at his partner.
For sure, the redhead only widens his eyes as the laser bullet flies next to him. Lastly, the spurted arm falls next to him. All he can do is dumbfounded stare at the rookie soldier and move his gaze down to the twitching fallen limb.
As soon as the brunette shoots all the arms crawling up to him, he runs as fast as his legs allow him. In the end, he grabs his partner by his uniform jacket and drags him together forward to the end of the corridor.
Some time passes by. Finally, this couple reaches the dead-end, which is a spacious meat cave. The only difference between this place and the corridor is that the pulsing sound resembles the loud heart of an enormous beast. More so, the large smooth lump of meat is the source of this sound.
‘‘This is it. If Kyo is inside of this creature, then I have to cut it and save him.’’ Or so Iori thinks to himself as he picks up his saber blade again and approaches his enemy.
However, as the redhead raises his blade and is about to slash this creature, the giant skinless palm spurts and sends him flying until he hits the wall.
‘‘Ya…YAGAMI-SAN!’’ Shingo screams for his partner, who shakily stands up while ignoring his pain.
Although, the brunette falls to his knees as soon as the beast’s heartbeat ceases. Soon enough, he only shakily stares at the countless eyes open up on the walls, which look at their prey.
After these eyes are closed, the giant piece of meat drowns in the living flesh.
Suddenly, the ground shakes, and the new creature emerges. Apparently, it is a few meters tall, a skinless humanoid with melting meat from its distorted face and body. Even if its arms and the rest of the body below the ribcage remain buried in the flesh floor, the least of these Resistance soldiers’ concerns is how tall their enemy is.
While the brunette screams in terror and crawls back, his partner dashes with his sword at this monster.
Unfortunately, just before impact, the giant palm appears from the ground and slaps the redhead like a bug. A second later, the same hand grabs its victim and brings it close to the monster’s face. Lastly, as this thing opens its mouth and is about to swallow the struggling Iori.
Instead of meeting a horrible fate, the redhead is dropped on the ground as the colossal monster lets out a painful screech.
When Yagami forces himself to half sit and lifts his head, he dumbfounded stares at this creature covering its injured eyed with its palm.
Even so, the infuriated beast’s fist aimlessly smashes the ground.
At this point, Yabuki doesn’t feel how he stands up and runs. All that matters to him is to leave this place together. He understands he may get crushed by this mutant. Yet, the brunette doesn’t want anyone to die in vain because of him.
Kusanagi-san would be upset to learn that his long-time partner had recklessly perished. So, at least Yagami-san needs to survive and leave this hell. That is all Shingo thinks as he rushes to the redhead’s side.
In the end, the brunette picks up and lightens his saber blade. After he closes his eyes, he yells while slashing the monster’s hand.
After the cut body part hits the meat floor, the flesh mutant lets out an agonizing high-pitched scream. For now, this creature covers its bleeding limb while closing its remaining eye.
Meanwhile, Iori realizes this creature may not last long. Not after keep losing that much blood. Therefore, he has a perfect chance to slit its neck and finish it.
Suddenly, he widens his eyes as his arm is thrown on the brunette’s shoulder and takes him away from the battlefield.
‘‘Ya…Yagami-san? Are you okay? Any… anywhere injured? Hang in there! Just a little bit… Just a little bit, and we should escape this place.’’ Or so Shingo addresses the other soldier through panting.
Yet, the redhead only grids his teeth and clenches his hands into fists. When they leave the room, Iori bends his elbow and strikes the junior soldier’s guts ‘‘Don’t interface, you fool!’’. Lastly, without looking back or showing any concern for Shingo, he pushes the brunette away.
‘‘Yagami-san…’’ Or so, Yabuki manages to speak up while all he can do is stare at his partner rushing to the battlefield. Although he tries his best to ignore his pain and follow the redhead.
After Iori enters the room, he notices that the flesh mutant is not as hostile as before. However, he is not affected by its weeping and howling. Step after step, the redhead approaches his target.
Even so, the monster does what it can to defend itself from this pesky human. After the countless pores on its head open up, it shoots the corrosive acid.
However, Yagami’s reflexes are quicker, and he dodges the sent attack. ‘‘What’s wrong? Do you want to die that badly? Fine, I’ll grant your wish.’’ He mocks this creature as the acid burns the flesh floor.
Without wasting a second, Iori jumps as high as his strength allows and stabs the monster in the heart’s area. Lastly, when he lands on his feet, the beast lets out a final scream as it collapses.
Meanwhile, the Resistance soldiers observed how the flesh and organs melt from this creature’s bones. Eventually, the bones sink into the meat floor, leaving nothing but a human-sized cocoon covered in dark purple flesh.
As the flesh layer gets torn, Iori widens his eyes and speaks up in a barely hearable, desperate voice ‘‘Kyo…’’. While Shingo is speechless in the view in front of them.
Apparently, this naked sleeping figure curled into a ball resembles one familiar Kusanagi heir. Despite being covered in blood, he has unusually pale skin.
With no further hesitation, Yagami rushes. After kneeling close to him, he takes him into his arm ‘‘KYO!’’. However, the Kusanagi’s body is still warm, and Iori even manages to grasp the pulse. Even after pressing his ear against Kyo’s chest, he hears weak breathing.
‘‘Wake up, Kyo!’’ Unfortunately, the redhead’s voice doesn’t reach him. No matter how hard Iori shakes his shoulders or slaps him, there is no response.
Meanwhile, Shingo only stares at them without being able to move. More so, he isn’t sure which is more stunning, reuniting with Kusanagi-san or how someone as merciless as Iori is vulnerable.
However, the sudden voice behind this trio makes Iori and Shingo alert ‘‘Leave Nii-sama alone!’’.
After turning back, these two notice the soldier in black body armor and shiny metal helmet. Lastly, this person points with the crimson saber blade at them ‘‘Handle him to me, and I may reconsider leaving alive.’’. And thus, a real battle is still ahead of them.

The longer Iori and Shingo wander in the endless, silent corridors, the more the redhead feels anxious. He cannot understand why such an enormous place like this is lifeless and unsecured.
Suddenly, Yagami gets alerted as dark shadow dashes behind him. As soon as he turns around, he sees no one. Strange, because he could swear that someone follows them.
However, the brunette’s concerned voice returns him to reality ‘‘Are you okay, Yagami-san?’’.
‘‘Shut up! And mind your own business, you stupid brat.’’ Iori backfires in a grumpy tone. Lastly, he pushes the junior soldier forward to keep him walking.
Some time passes. Aside from countless messy office rooms filled with scattered papers or other trash, the Resistance soldiers found nothing that might be useful or interesting to the Headquarters.
However, some rooms look renewed and even had vending machines with restocked drinks and food.
Despite the temptation to break these machines and relax before continuing their journey, Iori drags Shingo with him.
Who knows, maybe it is only a trap for the intruders. Besides, the redhead has no desire to listen to the complaints that some rookie was stupid enough to die.
The further they proceed, this couple encountered the locked rooms with the most advanced locks and unbreakable steel doors. However, whatever is inside isn’t important at the moment, and Iori decides to revisit these rooms as they come back after discovering the entire facility.
In the end, they finally reach the dead end and spot an old rusty elevator.
Just before the redhead presses one button, he gets stopped by his partner, who politely asks ‘‘Um, Yagami-san? Shouldn’t we just report to the Headquarters and return to the spaceship? Because that thing doesn’t look like it was used for ages and there is nothing we can take.’’.
‘‘No shit, huh? How about we’ll check it by throwing you as the testing dummy?’’ Iori backfires while giving an icy gaze. After pressing up and down buttons, he adds ‘‘What will your Headquarters do? They won’t come here to save you just because you called them. Tsk, let’s just get going, you coward.’’.
Meanwhile, a pair of glowing green eyes shine and observes its new targets in the distant corner.
A few minutes pass, and the elevator finally stops. After the heavy metal door opens, the Resistance Force arrives at the underground laboratory.
This floor isn’t lightened as much as the previous one. The only light source is the countless monitor screens, which constantly update the changing data and lighten up large testing tubes with the green fluorescent color.
More so, from time to time, the bubbling noise from one of the countless tubes and rarely quiet beeping from the monitors are the only sound here.
As a couple of soldiers explore the laboratory, they notice that inside of these tubes grow humanoid figures. Some of them are already resembling full-grown adults. Some - are still immature and hairless. Even their skin is transparent, and all the vessels and internal organs are visible to a bare eye.
There is also a group of artificial creatures that are hybrids of other alien species and humans.
However, this couple does not know whether all testing subjects are alive or hibernated.
Another detail that catches Iori’s and Shingo’s eye is that the most recent group of fully developed humanoids resemble one certain Kusanagi.
After Yagami walks toward one of the replicas and studies it. Just seeing the peacefully resting brunette connected to the wires and feeding tubes boils the redhead’s blood. His hatred for all the Kyo’s look-alikes grows stronger with each second.
While Iori places his palm against the glass, he wonders ‘How much Kyo needed to suffer that these bastards would bring these disgusting creatures to this world? Whoever has done this will never peacefully rest, nor have a day without shrugging in fear and shame. It doesn’t even matter why these abominations were created. Whoever took Kyo away from me will burn in hell!’.
A second later, he lowers his head and grids the teeth as his hand grasps the artificial creature’s chest behind the glass. Lastly, the redhead picks up the lighting saber and stabs the clone.
As the glass shatters and liquid splashes around, the homunculus lets out an agonizing scream and hits the ground. However, Yagami only silently observes the cut and suffering brunette.
‘That creature shouldn’t be alive. It’s not even Kyo, nor look anywhere close to him. So, that’s fine. It’s just a dirty animal. It’s not a big deal. Killing someone who wasn't supposed to be born should be fine. That fucking creature asked for it. Because of this degenerate, Kyo got captured.’ Or so, Iori thinks to himself as he hears the heartbeat ringing in his ears.
For now, he stomps on the wriggling body until the glass shards penetrate the flesh. In the end, the poor clone lets out his last gasp. However, Yagami is unaffected at the slightest and kicks the corpse’s side while taunting “Is that all you got? That’s not even close to your original... Pathetic.”.
Meanwhile, the junior soldier is in shock by not being able to comprehend the sudden redhead’s behavior. Despite that, Shingo knows he must do something.
He is afraid, yet he approaches his partner, who just looks down on Kyo’s look-alike without saying a word. Unfortunately, this is where the brunette makes a mistake.
After Yabuki pats Iori’s shoulder and calls his name, he receives an elbow strike into the guts.
While the brunette groans in pain and holds his hand on his stomach, he dumbfounded looks at Yagami, who gives a cold, piercing glare.
“Do not fucking interface. Just stand in my way and I’ll slay you like a pig.” Iori growls through his teeth as he grips the saber. Lastly, as the redhead slashes through the nearest testing tubes, the bloody massacre of the clones begins.
One after another, the replicas and testing subjects fall by the madman’s blade, who barely resembled a human anymore.
That wild beast is driven by nothing more than bloodlust and vengeance for his enemies, nor it will calm his wrath down. Even if he remains the last one standing on the top of the dead clones and claims his victory, it won’t be enough until he has Kyo back.
Meanwhile, without realizing it, the young soldier fled to hide behind the safest spot he could find. He doesn’t know how long he will be safe behind one of the computers, yet it was still a better choice than nothing.
As Shingo trembles in horror, he closes his eyes and covers his ears. However, he can still hear the Iori’s howling, shattering glass, and the sound of the tearing flesh.
Suddenly, something warm and wet hits him. Hell, whatever it was, it also covered him with the liquid reeking of iron. After the brunette opens his eyes, he screams at the pile of torn internal organs and kicks them away.
In the end, Yabuki hugs himself and desperately begged to anyone to pick him up or wake him up from this terrifying dream.
However, he doesn’t dare to dial the Headquarters and possibly become a disappointment to the Resistance Force again. While Shingo shakily holds his gun, he waits until the murderer soaked in red will come for him next. No matter how he wishes to avoid taking another life, he is ready to do anything to defend himself and stop Iori.
As the splashing blood and guts continue to paint the lab while the primal beast roars and hysterically laughs, the new threat lurks just around the corner. Eventually, the shadow figure reveals its form.
This person wears black body armor and a shiny metal helmet with intimidating closed sharp fangs and a couple of three round spots in the triangle on the eye level. While this soldier carefully observes, they dial someone.
Although, it was hard to tell whether this soldier’s voice belongs to a woman or a man. Yet, as soon as the receiver picks up the call and the holographic image of the scientist appears, the armored person speaks up without holding back the excitement ‘‘Dad, you are here! So, this thing works. I got to the place where Nii-sama is kept. But I encountered one little problem.’’.
‘‘What do you mean? Did anything happen to you?’’ The fluffy silver-haired with the glasses asks in a serious tone.
The black soldier briefly explains ‘‘I’m fine. But I’m not alone. There are other people in this building. One of them is the ferocious red-haired man called - Yagami-san, who destroys everything in his sight. Another one is a lousy, whiny brat. Hey, dad, what should I do? What if they are also after Nii-sama? They’ll ruin your plans. I… I cannot let this happen.’’.
‘‘Calm down!… Listen, I have little time. Can you record and send me what you can see?’’ Kurama patiently replies.
‘‘Y-Yes! Leave it to me, dad!’’ The armored person answers.
Before cutting off the contact, the silver-haired professor bids a farewell while keeping a poker face ‘‘Good. I need to go now. Stay safe, and if anything bad happens, contact me immediately.’’.
After setting the needed program in the helmet, the mysterious soldier thinks ‘‘I’ll make you proud, dad. Just wait for it. Then, you’ll praise me and love me the most.’’. Lastly, as they continue the mission, they patiently wait for the new targets to make one wrong move.

It is a harsh and cold evening outside unlike during the day, which was perfect for skiing or skyboarding. Even so, one familiar couple enjoys the warmth inside their cabin near the woods.
That’s right, Ethan and John have finally saved up for nearly a year for their first vacation together. This time, the blond bartender was the one who showed the initiative and offered a trip to the mountains for a week.
Even if at the beginning, Ethan was slightly concerned whenever it was a good idea, but after his partner reassured him, he believed in his partner.
Surprisingly, John is not only a great bartender but also a quick learner. That’s right, the blond easily follows Ethan’s given instructions, and with his help, he can even properly walk on skis and slide.
But for now, the blond stops stirring the hot cocoa and turns off the stove. After serving the sweets-scented liquid into a couple of mugs, he carefully grates a bit of nutmeg on top of it.
Yet, John is surprised how Ethan hasn’t shown up even once during this process. Nor, ‘‘assisting’’ by taking the samples.
‘Perhaps, he caught a cold after today. Don’t tell me that he got the high temperature as well.’. Or so, John wonders while remembering the big battle earlier on the same day.
_______________
That’s right, after spending a day in the local skiing resort, this couple takes a slightly different route to the town, which is going through the woods.
Suddenly, John realizes that something is wrong. Where in the world is his boyfriend?
After looking around, there was no sign of him.
Soon enough, the familiar voice, behind one of the trees, addresses him ‘‘Hey, I’m over here! Catch this!’’.
Gladly, the blond somehow manages to dodge the sent snowball at him. After standing up, he addresses Ethan in a determined voice ‘‘Don’t you think that you’ll get away so easily, pal!’’.
In the end, John counterattacks by throwing a quickly made snowball at the dark-haired man.
“Hey, jerk! That could have hit me in the – wuh?” Ethan replies. Yet, his other words are cut by him widening his eyes as the sent ball flew nearby his stomach.
This is when he realizes that he shouldn’t have lowered his guard. That’s right, John sent another snowball at him.
Fortunately, John doesn’t make hard snowballs. Otherwise, someone might have ended up with a bruise under the eye.
Nevertheless, Ethan doesn’t intend to give up so easily.
And thus, the great snowball fight begins.
_____________
Back to the present time.
After the blond reaches the living room while carrying two mugs of sweet drink, he feels relieved when he notices Ethan. So, all his worries were for nothing, and it was just a bad feeling.
At the moment, the dark-haired man cozily sits on the couch and enjoys the warmth of the fireplace. More so, he wrapped himself in a warm blanket and doesn’t aware of anyone approaching him from behind.
So, it is still surprising how after getting bathed by snow. After all, one of the snowballs hit the leaning-down tree branch from the heavyweight. On the other hand, John could barely hold his laugh.
Meanwhile, Ethan lifts his head after smelling a sweet scent. There can be only one person who can not only prepare almost all known drinks but also add a little sparkle, which makes them so unique and delicious.
When the dark-haired man turns his head and notices John next to him, he asks in an excited tone ‘‘Oh, what do you have there? Is that what I think it is?’’.
‘‘I would let you take a guess.’’ The blond calmly replies. ‘‘Besides, I thought you would like something to warm up. But this time I added something different from usual.’’ John adds.
‘‘What do you mean?’’ Ethan raises his eyebrow.
Lastly, the blond bartender calmly explains ‘‘I decided to try a new recipe. Not sure if you would like it. So, hopefully, you are not allergic to any nuts.’’.
After removing his arms from the blanket’s cocoon, the dark-haired man takes one mug into his hands ‘‘Knowing you, you would always ask before doing anything. Besides, I would warn you too’’.
While he holds the mugs, Ethan thanks in the most cheerful voice he could make ‘‘Thank you, and you are the best!’’. Of course, he also uses his chance and gives a quick kiss on the blond’s cheek.
Later on, Ethan moves a bit and addresses John ‘‘Come here~’’.
After the blond joins him on the couch, the dark-haired man draped the same blanket around his boyfriend’s shoulders and leans close to him. And thus, for the rest of the evening, they enjoyed watching the fireplace and each other’s company.
After all, the ambiance of the fireplace, enjoying the warm drink with your beloved person - what else do you need for such a lovely evening?

Finally, the two Resistance soldiers arrived at their destination place. And thus, after leaving their spaceship, they are greeted with the deadly world of the Metal Jungle.
Metal Jungle, formerly known as Heart of Gaia, was like a paradise because of its variety of flora and fauna. However, everything changed after the Empire colonized this planet and abused it for its never-ending resources. Later on, it would help them win the Great War in the future.
Unfortunately, it only took less than a century until the colonists damaged the ecosystem of the Heart of Gaia beyond recovery. However, humans realized this when it was already too late to do anything when the ecological disaster would happen soon.
Nevertheless, the Empire forced the scientists to restore the former paradise. Those who refused to cooperate were eliminated, and any trace of their existence was destroyed.
With each failed attempt, the government was outrageous. Yet, one day, a strange group showed up. Their leader explained they are a powerful organization - NESTS, which is neither against nor on the Empire’s side, just a bystander.
After all, they have their own goals. However, NESTS offered a better solution, which, according to them, would make the Empire so powerful that no force in the entire universe wouldn’t stop them.
The Empire was interested in the NESTS’ plan and generously paid them in advance. After the ruler of the Empire and the leader of NESTS shook hands, these organizations worked as one and gave an oath to never betrayed each other.
However, the leader of NESTS secretly cracks a smile while holding his other hand behind his back.
Years passed, and the surface of the Heart of Gaia changed drastically. Once known as the pinnacle of nature and all life forms, this planet now wears an iron mask. Eventually, it was named Metal Jungle.
As the name suggests, cyborgs and other advanced robotic creatures replaced all the life-forms to protect the dozens of weapon and armor factories. However, to keep the plants alive and serve as a protection from entering deeper into the Metal Jungle, NESTS scientists modified them.
In the end, this highly protected place kept the Empire strong.
After the Resistance Force learned about the Metal Jungle, they saw this as an opportunity to have a greater chance to fight back against the Empire.
The commander is aware of the dangerous nature of this place, but he takes the risk and sends some of his soldiers on a looting mission.
But for now, while Shingo follows Iori, he asks him in a polite tone ‘‘Um, Yagami-san… Should we contact the Headquarters first?’’.
‘‘Do as you wish. You can talk with these fools all you want until I return.’’ The redhead backfires without looking back.
The brunette politely objects ‘‘But we’ve been told that-’’.
However, Yagami interrupts him while giving a cold glare “You’re staying here, got it? I don’t need a useless brat who would just bother me.”.
In the end, Shingo remains silent and lowers his gaze, but he refuses to listen to his partner’s request.
Some time passes. As they go deep into the mechanized forest, Iori feels that something is off. It’s too quiet for a place which supposes to be heavily protected.
Nevertheless, he is ready to draw his trustworthy laser blade at any time.
Meanwhile, Yabuki is about to contact the operators through his transmission device. However, after hearing a cracking noise and the operator responding, the brunette freezes at the same point.
“This is Headquarters. Can you hear us?” The operator’s voice speaks, even if her voice cannot reach the brunette anymore.
Shingo got barely time to react when Iori charges his blade at the roaring beast behind him. One sudden move and the junior soldier feels how the warm, dark liquid splashes on him.
As soon as the slain creature hits the ground, Yabuki shakily holds the buster gun and shoots at the swarm of flying mechanic insects.
He is terrified, but he continues to blast his targets while Yagami covers his partner’s back. For now, if the redhead wants to survive, he has no other choice than team up with that brat.
Besides, he can use Shingo as a momentary distraction and escape while searching for Kyo or use that brat as a meat shield. Or so, Iori convinces himself as his instinct to kill takes him over.
Unfortunately, the more mechanic creatures the duo has destroyed, the more of them keep spawning. There is no end to it, unlike the stamina of the Resistance Soldiers.
Even Yabuki fears that it is a matter of minutes, if not the seconds, before their demise.
Suddenly, the brunette remembers about one item, which one member of the Rescue Squad gave to him after he recovered. That tiny oval-shaped metal was supposed to be like a gift for the rookie, and it should be used when he would be in danger.
As the young soldier fighting back the enemy, he grasps a small item in his chest’s pocket.
“Yagami-san! Start running as fast as you can when I give a signal!” The brunette addresses his partner. Lastly, he twists the tiny bomb and launches it at the insects that almost over-whelmed Iori.
There is no time to waste, nor a second chance! Shingo grabs Iori by the back of his uniform and drags him.
He doesn’t care if Yagami yells at him - all he cares about is staying alive.
As soon as the Resistance soldiers run, the loud explosion echoes through the area. A second later, the blinding white color and high-pitched beeping surround everything.
Suddenly, Shingo trips over the fallen vine and drags Iori down with him.
After the brunette sits up while groaning, he opens his eyes and notices that the white light is gone. More so, all mechanical creatures are disabled.
Even Yabuki is unsure what just happened.
‘‘So, maybe this is what these guys meant when they said that this little device holds a huge destructive power…’’ Shingo remarks in a shaky voice while he rubs his nape.
After the redhead gets up, he looks around and scolds his partner ‘‘Tsk… Why haven’t you done this earlier, you stupid, useless brat?’’.
When Yabuki gives him such a guilty gaze, Iori continues lecturing him ‘‘Whatever… You’ll explain to me later. For now, who knows how long these bots are disabled. So, let’s move. Or do you prefer to sit here and get killed?’’.
In the end, Shingo follows the Yagami’s given orders.
On their way, the brunette tries to contact the Resistance Headquarters again. Fortunately, this time he could do it and give a brief report of the current progress. Although Iori remains silent and grumpy during Yabuki’s speech.
Some time passed. Finally, the duo reaches an enormous building, which they assume is one of the weapon factories.
Yet, as soon as Iori spots in the distance that there are a couple of soldiers in black biometal armor and white shiny metal helmets, which cover their faces, he gives Shingo a command to hide behind the nearest tree.
‘‘Listen carefully, you fool. You won’t move a single muscle until I say so, got it?’’ Yagami quietly addresses his partner while they observe the guards.
Yabuki only silently nods and listens further to the commands ‘‘There won’t be any second chance. If you fail, it’s your fault for dying. When I give you a signal, you will shoot at one of the guards. So, while you distract them, I approach them and kill them. Do you understand?’’.
Shingo nods again ‘‘Yes.’’.
‘‘Good. So, let’s split out.’’ Iori adds in a strict tone.
After doing as he was told, the redhead raises his arm and instantly lowers it ‘‘Now!’’.
Suddenly, the brunette shoots at the alerted guards, who are focusing on their new target. Fortunately, he can blast one of the soldier’s shooting guns.
Meanwhile, Yagami draws his laser blade and charges at one of the guards. Soon enough, Shingo joins him.
As the brunette is busy dealing with one guard who only possesses the laser blade, Iori focuses on another one.
No matter how fast is the enemy’s bullet, the redhead successfully blocks them with his blade. When Iori is close enough, he slashes the guard’s gun.
A second later, Yagami kicks into his opponent’s stomach and forcing him to fall to the ground.
However, just before the redhead claims the victory, the guard picks the laser blade from the pocket on his thigh and swings the blade.
Fortunately, Iori’s reaction is faster, and he dodges the attack. After his opponent stands up, he keeps attacking the redhead.
The more they fight, the more Yagami realizes that his opponent’s style is similar to Kyo’s.
The redhead can hear his heartbeat ringing inside his head. However, he cannot let his emotions control him. After all, he is still not sure if it is his old-time partner in missions.
Even if it is the brainwashed Kusanagi, Iori still needs to defeat him first. Either this way, either only by killing the guard in front of him is the only way to find out the truth.
This is the first time in his life when he prays to the god that his guess should be wrong.
As he blocks and dodges his enemy’s attacks, the redhead notices that the guard’s movements are less agile and more aggressive. Nevertheless, Iori uses this as an advance.
Lastly, Yagami aims at his opponent’s arm, which holds the blade. One sudden strike, and the armored fellow bleeds.
While the guard is paralyzed in pain, Iori slashes his opponent with an uppercut. In the end, the guard falls while the dark red liquid splashes like a fountain.
However, as the redhead mercilessly observes the killed guard lying in his blood, he suddenly widens his eyes and turns his head towards the terrified scream ‘‘KUSANAGIIIII-SAAAN!’’.
As Yagami runs in the direction where was his partner, he notices how Shingo’s knees give up on him and how he covers his face while sobbing.
Even Iori can barely comprehend the sight in front of him. He refuses to believe that he is not dreaming.
Next to the younger brunette lies Kyo with the stabbed chest. The paled-face Kusanagi remains dumbfounded while the small bloodstream runs down the corner of his lips.
Meanwhile, the tears don’t stop flowing through the gaps of Yabuki’s palms as he sobs ‘‘I’m… I’m… sorry… I… I… killed him… I… killed… Kusanagi-san… Wha- what… What have I done?… why?… Kusanagi-san…’’.
Even Iori feels heartbroken while refusing to accept the Kusanagi’s demise. Yet, it doesn’t change the fact that he failed to protect the only person in the world who mattered to him. After the redhead sits near Kyo, he brushes the brunette’s bangs from his face.
However, something catches Yagami’s attention. Iori cannot understand why a metal plate is attached to his forehead. More so, when he turns Kyo’s head, he notices the tattooed barcode with the serial number on his nape.
Suddenly, the redhead comes up with a crazy idea. Yet, he hopes he might be right this time. After leaving the grieving Yabuki, Iori checks his killed guard.
When Yagami squats near the corpse, he turns the guard’s head and notices the same barcode with the serial number. Yet, he still needs to remove the helmet to see who this person is.
After pressing the button on the bottom backside of the helmet, it loosens and fall-off.
In the end, all Iori can do is stare in belief. The lying person in front of him is also the Kusanagi. The redhead covers his mouth with his palm and shakes his head.
‘‘There is no way any of these bastards are Kyo… It’s not Kyo. It’s not him! It can’t be him! IT’S NOT KYO! WHERE THE FUCK IS HE?! I WON’T FORGIVE TO THOSE WHO TOOK HIM FROM ME!’’ Yagami howls as the beast. Suddenly, his sorrow grows into a pure rage.
As he shakily holds his palms into the fists and grinds his teeth, Iori swears to hunt down and murder everyone who stole his Kyo from him and made him suffer.
But for now, Yagami aggressively approaches Shingo.
When Iori squats, he roughly grabs the brunette by his uniform and lifts him. Despite the sudden behavior of his partner, Shingo keeps his head hung and refuses to face the redhead.
Suddenly, Iori harshly slaps the junior soldier’s face and yells ‘‘Get a hold of yourself! There is no time for that! It’s not Kyo!’’.
Meanwhile, Shingo dumbfounded stares with his red and teary eyes at the redhead.
Even after Yagami releases him, the brunette barely stands on his feet. For now, he listens to Iori, who threatens him ‘‘If that was Kyo, I would make sure that you will have a living hell until you’ll die like a dog. Understand? But now, it means that he may be still alive somewhere.’’.
After a brief pause, the redhead continues his speech ‘‘We need to see what’s inside this building. But before that, contact the Headquarters.’’.
When Iori stares at his partner, who is about to weep again, he dials the Headquarters. Besides, he might get into trouble because of one brat who can’t behave properly. Therefore, no matter how Yagami hates talking to these lousy operators, he has to do it.
After giving a quick summary of the discovery, Iori picks up his blade and cuts the door until he makes his way through. Lastly, he prompts the junior soldier to go inside.
However, neither they nor the Resistance Force is aware that there are not only weapon factors on this planet. Nor about the NESTS buildings where they dispose of the remains and corpses from the failed experiments.
And thus, Iori and Shingo enter the den of various creatures lurking in the dark and waiting for a new meal to play.

Since their high-school days, Albus always sees his classmate Noctis as his worst arch-nemesis. He cannot understand what is so special about that guy.
That’s why the long silver-haired man constantly throws various challenges at him: from who would get a higher score in exams to who is better at sport. At some point, even who is worth claiming the title of being the king of arcade.
However, the fluffy ebony-haired student takes these challenges so lightly and as personal entertainment.
‘‘How dares he? Who does he think is he? One day, I’ll wipe that smug smile from his face and crush him like an insect!’’ Or so, Albus keeps telling himself as he observes his rival either from the nearest corner or whenever Noctis is chilling with his friends.
As time passes by, both enter the college. Yet, their never-ending fight continues. Or this is how Albus calls their relationship until they finally settle the score.
Perhaps this is what you call your desire to compete with someone worthy of your time and attention. It can’t be anything else, right? Or so, the long-haired man convinces himself.
Meanwhile, Noctis cannot help but feel amused by Albus’ dedication and passion for him. Besides, it is fun to hang out with his number one fan.
One day, the dark-haired man shows initiative first and challenges his old-time rival. Besides, he is curious about what kind of reaction Albus would have.
Finally, the long-awaited day arrives. It is a warm autumn afternoon in the local shopping mall.
‘Where is that stupid idiot? Did he trick me?’ Albus wonders while he checks the time on his phone.
After he looks around, he notices a familiar figure cheerfully waving at him ‘‘Yo! Have I made you wait?’’.
Yet, the silver-haired man replies while swooshing his hair ‘‘I just got here.’’. When Albus approaches his rival, he keeps his hands in the jeans pocket and thrusts his chest towards him ‘‘You wanted to see me. So, what kind of challenge are you up to?’’.
No matter how much he attempts to look intimidating yet, Noctis sees him as just a small animal trying to act like a big one.
It is still surprising how he endures the temptation to ruffle Albus’ hair and tease him. Although the silver-haired man is older than him, he still looks cute even when he gets angry.
In the end, Noctis casually replies ‘‘Not sure if you heard it, but recently here opened the VR room. I thought we could check it out. Besides, last time you seem to enjoy it. Anyway, how about we should make this more interesting?’’.
As Albus raises his eye-brow, he continues to listen ‘‘What if the loser would have to do as the winner says for an entire day?’’.
‘‘Anything you say?’’ The silver-haired man asks in a curious tone and continues with a proud smirk ‘‘Then, I hope you will still keep your word when I’ll claim my victory.’’.
‘‘If you are also prepared to do so. Because I’m not going easy on you.’’ Noctis backfire and then prompts his self-claimed rival to go.
After reaching the destination place and picking the games, which, according to Albus, would let them compete from the bottom of their hearts. And thus, another battle between two players begins.
So far, Albus seems to win the first round, which was a shooting game. Without any doubt, he proudly boasts about his oh-so-perfect accuracy and quick reaction.
Unfortunately, his arrogance blinded him, and he lost the second round, which was a sword fight.
Even so, there is one more round left. For sure, neither side shows any desire to lose. Lastly, the new match begins.
In the end, the outcome was surprising - it ended with a tie. Even if Albus isn’t happy about the result, he accepts it as just a delay in his victory.
Yet, suddenly, he widens his eyes when he feels how someone pats his shoulder. When Albus notices his old-time rival smiling and congratulating him, he lowers his gaze while murmuring in an embarrassed voice.
‘‘One day I’ll get him… somehow.’’ The long-haired young man thinks to himself.
Some time passes, and it is nearly a time when they should depart. Just as Noctis is about to bid a farewell, Albus holds his hand and walks towards a more desolate place.
At first, the dark-haired man is confused about what is happening. After reaching the park, Noctis just stares at the silver-haired man, who slams his hand against the tree and corners him.
When he takes a better look at his rival, he notices how hard Albus tries to keep a serious face while addressing him in a slightly shy tone ‘‘Listen, it’s not over yet!’’.
Noctis crosses his arms and continues to listen to another dramatic speech ‘‘Consider yourself being lucky! Perhaps this time, our match ended with a tie. However, this accident just delayed the inevitable. Next time we meet, I will defeat you, Noctis!’’.
The dark-haired man closes his eyes and sighs. ‘Let’s see your big talk when we’ll swap the roles~’ Noctis wonders as he stares with amusement.
‘‘Oi, you supposed to take this seriously because you will be under my foot.’’ Albus indignantly adds.
Suddenly, the long-haired man gets alerted when Noctis bends and escapes his rival’s trap. However, he is more surprised about the next move.
After his rival corners him with his arms and delightfully smiles ‘‘Now, now, it doesn’t mean that I would give up so easy, little man.’’.
Just when Albus expects something more to happen, Noctis puts his hand into his pants pocket while the other one ruffles his hair.
Surprisingly, he doesn’t mind such a gesture. Yet, this moment does not last long.
Even when a few minutes pass after his rival bids a farewell, Albus still can feel that sensation in his hair.
‘That stupid Noctis… Perhaps I’ll let it slide through my fingers this time and let him live. But he better be prepared for the rematch…’ Or so, he thinks to himself.

It is finally the long-awaited spring. Perhaps this time, Ethan will find a perfect chance to tell about his feeling for one blond bartender.
And what is the best way to do it? Of course, by impressing your crush with your skills!
Yet, how to do it when someone you like can not only mix a perfect drink but also make magic out of nothing? It won’t be a simple task, that is for sure.
However, maybe the luck is on his side.
A couple of days pass. After a long day at work, Ethan goes home until something catches his eye. Apparently, one poster on the nearest wall stands out from the rest.
Across the blue background, it is decorated with spring flowers, fluffy chickens in the eggshells, branches with blooming buds, Easter eggs, and other details.
Above all this, there is something typed out on the rainbow. Apparently, it is an announcement about the incoming Easter Festival which will be in one of the biggest parks in the city, and the festival’s program.
And thus, Ethan invites his friend. Hopefully, the blond bartender may have a day off.
A few days pass by. The long-awaited day finally arrives. After the dark-haired man picks up John, both are going to their destination point.
As they reach the city’s square, they are greeted with a festive, uplifting, and welcoming mood lingering in the air. The food stands and shops are open, and even the local artisans are here to show and share their proud works.
On their way, something piques the blond’s interest. As his chin points out at the shooting gallery, he addresses Ethan in a playful tone ‘‘Are you up for some challenge?’’.
‘‘Sure. Why not? But I warn you, I could beat you even with my eyes closed. So, just watch me.’’ The dark-haired man replies, acting cool.
‘‘Just be careful and not to shoot your foot, okay? I don’t want to break my spine like last time when someone was asleep during my shift. Believe it or not, you are not so light to carry, you know.’’ John backfires in a patient tone.
‘‘Oh, come on, it only happened once. It’s not my fault that I fall asleep. And now you gonna remind this each time? You could just call a taxi if you wanted. Anyway, whoever gets fewer points will have to pay the full price when we hang out next time.’’ Ethan suggests.
‘‘Well, you can start saving up the money, my dear friend.’’ The blond replies in a playful tone.
The dark-haired man knows that now there is no way he can lose. Not just after making such an announcement. After all, his pride is at stake.
After reaching the counter, Ethan insists on paying for the tickets. Of course, John almost snorts and chuckles at his friend acting like a hero from the action movies. Or rather, like a small sparrow who cannot sit in one spot and keep chirping while trying to act like a bird.
As he takes the shotgun into his hands, Ethan announces with such determination in his voice ‘‘Watch me! I’ll win this one.’’.
When the dark-haired man takes a deep breath, he aims at the target below the big teddy bear.
After a couple of unsuccessful attempts, Ethan finally hits the target. For sure, his friend’s reaction makes his victory even more accomplishing. As he holds his giant plushy toy, Ethan proudly declares ‘‘How’s that? I told you, I can do it.’’.
Yet, the blond replies in an as chill manner as he can ‘‘Not bad, not bad at all. But I can do it better!’’.
While hugging the teddy bear, Ethan replies ‘‘Then, I’m waiting for ~’’.
Despite it being John’s first time holding a gun, he imitates the same stance as his friend. Finally, he aims at the target and pulls the trigger.
As the bullet blasts the expensive-looking pot, the blond falls to the ground.
Fortunately, Ethan rushes toward his fallen friend. As he helps to get up, the dark-haired man gives an avalanche of questions ‘‘Are you alright? Did you get hurt anywhere?’’.
Even the person who held this game got concerned. However, John gives a comforting smile and chuckles while rubbing his nape ‘‘Please, don’t worry about it. I’m fine. I am really.’’. Then, he apologizes to the game’s owner for destroying the prize and politely asks to use his remaining attempts.
The result wasn’t exactly gold medal-worthy. Although, John kept missing the targets. Yet, he feels like accomplishing something great. After all, it’s his first time doing something like this. He knew that nothing is scary when his friend was by his side. Besides, Ethan cheered on him, and it worked as the best charm he could ask for.
Lastly, the dark-haired man holds the teddy bear in front of John while confessing in a slightly embarrassed tone ‘‘Here. You are the one who deserves it.’’.
Just as John widens his eyes and dumbfounded stares at Ethan, the dark-haired man continues ‘‘You should have warned me about that earlier… A-anyway, even for the first time, you did well. So, take it.’’.
As John takes the teddy bear, he just warmly smiles at him.
Thanks to such an expression, Ethan can feel how his cheeks are pinkish color. Yet, he cracks a slightly nervous smile and asks ‘‘What is it? Did I say anything wrong?’’.
John holds the plushy toy in one arm while the other hand reaches his friend. While he ruffles the dark-haired man’s hair, he thanks in a warm and gentle tone ‘‘Thank you.’’.
At the moment, Ethan just silently stares at the blond like nothing seems to exist in the world aside from him and John.
‘Tonight. Tonight, during the fireworks show, I gonna do it. So, even if these three words might end my life, but I’m ready to say them. Don’t you think you’ll get away this time by stealing something precious to me, you pretty boy…’ Ethan thinks to himself while dazing at his friend.
So, even if there is still a lot of time until that moment, he cherishes the last memories with his beloved bartender. Or so, this is the only outcome he is prepared for.
Yet, Ethan doesn't realize that these three words are the simplest yet, most difficult to say words that can be the beginning of the brand-new chapter.

Some may say when you fall in love, you see nothing but only that special person, while everything else is in purple mist. Perhaps, for some, it feels like being under someone’s spell.
Or at least, this is how Ethan describes his caught feelings for John. Yet, it took a time long time before he admits to himself having feelings for his friend.
That’s right, not only the blond young man’s pleasant look, but his quick and talented hands work as mesmerizing charms.
Aside from never ceasing to amaze with how he mixes and prepares drinks, John has other talents. That's right, he can create the magic in his palm.
When the blond bartender has a free minute, he would pick a piece of paper, plastic cups, or other ordinary things and turn them into extraordinary ones.
For example, even by such simple tricks as turning water into tiny blocks of ice, making small objects to levitate, John can amaze his audience.
Sometimes, his magic skills can cheer up his best friend.
One time John told with a straight face that he can make a paper ball go through the counter.
Of course, Ethan objected that it was impossible. However, the blond wrapped the plastic cup in the paper. After hiding the paper ball under the cup, John smashed it with his fist.
Lastly, he revealed that the paper ball remained. It was followed by Ethan’s pointing out that this trick didn’t work. Yet, John asked whenever his friend was so sure.
Only after a minute or two, does Ethan realizes what was missing. Of course, it surprised him how his friend’s fist was so powerful that it made the plastic cup disappear.
Another example is his most recent trick. That’s right, Ethan had the worst day at work. So, as soon as his shift was over, he goes to a certain bar where his favorite bartender works.
After sitting down near the counter, he asks for his usual shot.
Seeing his friend so silent and upset concerns John. When he asks what happened, Ethan murmurs in a grumpy tone ‘‘Don’t ask, I messed up and that’s that stupid idiot’s fault. Whatever, I don’t wanna even think about it anymore. It’s nothing like it is important or anything.’’.
Of course, the dark-haired man keeps sulking, and it slowly gets on the bartender’s nerves. Yet, the long-haired blond patiently replies ‘‘Okay. If you don’t want to talk about it, that’s fine. But I’m sure that you’ll sort it out.’’.
When he takes the empty glass, John adds ‘‘Anyway, I have something for you.’’.
Ethan only suspiciously raises his eyebrow while staring. Surely, John cannot himself but smile at such an expression ‘‘Now, I’m sure that you would like it.’’.
After he picks up the empty box of chocolate, he hears Ethan’s grumpy question ‘‘And what am I supposed to do with that? You can throw it away by yourself.’’.
‘‘But I can refill it in no time. If you don’t believe me, I won’t share it with you.’’ John teases him.
‘‘Then, show it, pretty boy.’’ Ethan backfires as he cracks a smile.
‘It’s always so easy to distract you~’ or so, the blond thinks before starting another performance.
When he shows that both - the bottom and the box's lid are empty, there seems to be nothing to stand up or anything suspicious.
After John closes the box, he casts a silent spell.
Meanwhile, Ethan carefully observes his friend and wonders how he will pull this trick.
Before the bartender opens the lid, he speaks up ‘‘If you still don’t believe, let me prove you wrong. So, why don’t we check it out?’’.
Surprisingly, the box is full of assorted chocolates.
‘‘How is it possible? What did you do?’’ Ethan comments as he points with his palm at the box.
‘‘Magicians never tell their secrets, Ethan.’’ John declares in a proud tone. ‘‘But wait! There is something behind your ear.’’ He adds.
‘‘When did it?-’’ He couldn’t finish the sentence as he feels how his friend move his palm toward him. At this moment, Ethan’s cheeks dye in a darker tone of red, and he cannot process what is happening.
However, as soon as the blond with-draws his palm, he shows a copper coin in his fingers. Lastly, he adds in an innocent tone ‘‘I wonder how did it get there~’’.
‘Perhaps this man does not know about his bewitching charms. Otherwise, he won’t be doing this. That’s for sure…’ Or so, Ethan convinces himself while staring in awe.
In the meantime, the blond bartender snaps his fingers a few times ‘‘Are you okay? You are sure that you haven’t caught a cold?’’. Gladly, it returns his friend to this world.
When Ethan blinks and shakes his head, he tries to sound as chill as he could ‘‘Er… It’s nothing! I swear.’’. After a brief pause, he continues in a slightly shy tone ‘‘And thanks, man… Anyway, I need to go now. I don’t wanna make Christine worry.’’.
Before leaving his seat, his friend’s voice stops him ‘‘You forgot something.’’.
Ethan instantly turns back and checks inside his jacket and jeans pockets.
As John gives him a warm look, he gives him the box of chocolates ‘‘Here you go. You can have them, or you can give them to your girlfriend. Ah, and be careful on your way.’’.
While Ethan holds the box close to his heart, he lowers his gaze as he murmurs something under his nose. After he turns around, he leaves the bar.
One thing is sure, it was close enough before John figured out everything.
‘That handsome devil… You have no idea what you’re doing to me.’ The dark-haired man tells himself.
Despite that, he decides to keep the chocolates for himself. After all, it is like an unexpected gift.
However, instead of rushing to finish these chocolates, Ethan wants to save them for as long as possible. Lastly, he would keep the box as it was the most precious thing in this world.

Finally, the long-awaited day arrives. Perhaps, for anyone else, February 28th may be an average day. But for one certain blond, it is an important day. Evans even has marked this day in the calendar and set a reminder on his phone a week. No, it's not dealing with another deadline. Today is chief Marude’s birthday.
Of course, he could give his gift during the surprise party. Yet, Evans wishes to give it personally and without being afraid of drawing unwanted attention or embarrassing not only himself but his adored boss too.
But for now, before leaving for work, he strokes his beloved Sultan’s fur and checks twice whenever he hasn't forgotten about the small gift bag.
Some time passes by. As the sunlight brightens the office, Evans starts to feel sleepy. Perhaps, staying awake and thinking about all possible worst scenarios during the night wasn't the best idea. So, it can’t be helped, then. He has to rely on the third cup of espresso in the row.
After stretching out, the blond goes to the coffee machine. For the better or worse, on the way, he encounters a familiar secretary, who seems to be searching for something while cheerfully humming.
When the brunette turns around, she addresses Evans, “Good afternoon, Mr. Jones. How are you today?”.
“Fine, I guess… I just need another shot to keep me going.” — He replies without hiding the tired voice.
As the coffee machine fills the cup, May cracks a smile and reminds in an uplifting tone, “Anyway, hopefully, you haven't forgotten about the party tonight. So, I'll see you there.”.
However, just before she walks away, she gets stopped by Evans's voice, “Wait!… Um, if the chief is free at the moment? I need to ask him something important.”.
‘‘The chief Marude is in an important meeting right now. So, I suggest you not disturb him at the moment. But I’ll let you know when he will be free. Anyway, I’ll see you in a bit.’’ — May briefly explains before leaving.
A few hours pass by. This is it, the moment of truth. Or so, Evans thinks to himself as he enters the chief’s office while holding the small gift bag behind his back.
‘‘Good afternoon, Evans. You wanted to discuss something, right?’’ — The chief Marude warmly greets him. However, upon noticing how the blond holds his hands behind his back and avoids facing him, concerns the older man, ‘‘Did anything happen at work?’’.
Evans only shakes his head. After gathering enough courage, he places the gift bag on the desk, ‘‘Happy Birthday, sir!’’.
At first, Marude fixates his gaze on him. Soon enough, it changes into a gentle look.
‘‘Thank you so much, Evans. But you didn’t need to do this.’’ — The chief replies.
While he takes the content of the gift bag, his subordinate observes him with impatience. After taking out the amber-colored box and an envelope tied with the ribbon, the dark-haired man widens his eyes and loses his speech.
‘That’s it, I’m in deep trouble this time! Perhaps, I should start to look for a new job too… Damn, but who gonna need someone like me?’ — Evans wonders in fear. Yet, he tries to look calm despite having countless terrible scenarios in his head. Lastly, he closes his eyes and waits.
Suddenly, his guard is caught by feeling how someone’s hand pats his hair. After shakily opening his eyes, Evans feels how the heat rushes to his cheeks.
Just when the blonde began to get used to this unexpected gesture, Marude with-draws his hand.
‘Perhaps, at least, he slightly liked his present… That’s a relief, maybe?’ — Or so, wonders Evans.
‘‘I never expected to see it ever again. It sure does bring memories… Do you know what this is, Evans?’’ — Marude comments while holding the box of expensive cologne.
‘‘No, sir…’’ — Instantly, the younger man answers.
‘‘How many times I’ve told you that you can call me by my name when we are alone? It’s alright. Or do think that I’m already an old man?’’ — The chief calmly explains.
‘‘No, sir, -er, I mean, Jean…’’ — The blond corrects himself in a slightly embarrassed tone. Of course, maybe it is the chief’s given the privilege to only his close friends or family. Yet, Evans feels that being honored like this means that the chief trusts him enough. So, it can’t be more than that, right? After all, his feelings are one-sided. Or so, Evans convinced himself.
But for now, Jean addresses him, ‘‘See? That wasn’t so hard, was it? Anyway, I’ll tell you one story, which no one aside from my mother knows about. Back in the day when I was a young lad, it was my father’s favorite brand, and he only used it on special occasions. However, one day I decided to use it as well. Of course, I knew that I might get into trouble if I use it without his permission or knowledge. But I did it anyway. At first, I didn’t understand why my girlfriend was coughing and covering her mouth. In the end, our date. Once the date was over, my mother asked me whenever I used my father’s cologne, and I denied it. But she saw through my lies and told me that sprayed too much of it. Gladly, my father never found out about it. Yet, ever since then, I asked him how to properly use it. So, that’s why now I was surprised to see this brand again after such a long time.’’.
For sure, Evans feels happy to learn something new about Jean’s past. However, he tries to contain his excitement.
‘‘By the way, are you free this Saturday? I was thinking, whenever would you like to go for a friendly dinner? Besides, it would be a great chance to put your present to good use, don’t you think?’’ — The older man suggests.
Such an offer nearly makes Evans’s heart jump from his chest. ‘Stay calm, just stay calm, you fool!’ — He tells himself. ‘‘Eh?! Well… I… I have nothing planned… yet.’’ — He shyly replies.
‘‘Excellent! Then, should I pick around eight?’’ — Jean asks.
In the end, he is thrilled that his adored chief asks him to hang out. However, it still feels like a dream, and maybe soon his cat should wake him up any time soon. Perhaps, this time, he can finally confess his feelings. Or so, Evan hopes.

It was a matter of seconds before Ethan got caught by the rain. So, once again, the brunette’s favorite bar shelters him at the most needed time. Besides, tonight he was planning to drink like there is no tomorrow. Perhaps, it should help to wash down and forget about that person. Or so, he hopes, while he cannot find a feeling of peace.
As Ethan enters into a bar, a familiar melody greets him. That’s right, it is such a cheery and innocent song, which played during his first date. Unfortunately, now, it is ruined for him, and it only brings sad memories. Therefore, just hearing this song makes the brunette miserable and depressed like listening to a break-up song. After Ethan sits near the counter, he straightforwardly asks in a gloomy tone without lifting his gaze ‘‘Give me the usual.’’.
‘‘And the magic word?’’ — The blond bartender with tied long hair replies in a nearly singing voice as he cleans the glass.
The brunette only frowns and clenches his fist ‘‘Come on, don’t be a dick, John. The very least I need now is to deal with your bullshit.’’.
‘‘Now, you don’t have to be so rude. Wanna talk about it?’’ — John patiently replies as he adds the ice cubes and masterly pours the whiskey.
As soon as he passes the glass, his old-time friend finishes it in no time. Ethan slaps the wooden surface while giving a demanding gaze with his amber eyes ‘‘More!’’.
Yet, after the brunette takes another couple shots and another request, John sighs ‘‘Slow down, alright? Or do you want to get wasted so badly? You know, I don’t want to listen to Christine’s nagging.’’.
Ethan holds the empty glass tighter. When the brunette cracks a fake smile and shakes his head, he replies in a bitter tone ‘‘Then, I have good news for you, pretty boy. I don’t have one anymore.’’. The blond only raises his eyebrow and listens further ‘‘We broke up…’’
After John pours another glass, his friend pushes the filled glass ‘‘Listen, I cannot accept it. I don’t want you to cause problems like last time.’’. Even so, the blond bartender replies in a soft tone ‘‘It’s okay. This one is on me. Just promise me that you won’t chug it down instantly.’’. A second passes, and he asks in a concerned tone ‘‘Did anything happen? You do seem like a good couple.’’.
Ethan lowers his gaze ‘‘I fucked up so badly this time that even you will hate me!’’. The brunette bites his lower lip and clenches his fist. Just as the blond is about to place his hand on Ethan's shoulder to comfort him, his friend confesses ‘‘As we started dating, I started to notice how instead of her, I saw another person. Hell, at first, I tried to shake it off my mind. But it kept repeating. I couldn’t even rest because I can see myself together with that one person. One day, when we were about to finally do it, I couldn’t concentrate because the image of that person kept appearing in my mind. In the end, I apologized, and we broke up…’’.
Once the brunette finished telling his story, the bartender was speechless. After a short pause, the blonde comments ‘‘I don’t even know what to say… Why did you date that woman in the first place if you have feelings for another person?’’.
‘‘Does it matter now? Besides, there is no way that I can approach that person without getting punched or fucking up our friendship.’’ — Ethan backfires. When he takes a sip, he waits for John’s verdict.
‘‘How can you be so sure?’’ — The blonde objects. However, he receives no answer, just an upset look. Even so, he tries to approach from another direction ‘‘Fine. Do I know that person?’’.
This time, the brunette silently nods and empties his glass. For sure, John already knew that when Ethan gives such a guilty and exhausted puppy-like gaze while his cheeks are red ground cherry, he is about to lose it. If it wasn’t for being on the shift, John would let him vent out until he’ll calm down. But for now, the long-haired bartender only softens his gaze ‘‘Can you walk?’’. Despite the brunette’s stubbornness, he helped Ethan to get to a desolated corner. Lastly, his half-dozing friend rests without bothering the customers.
A few hours have passed. It is the end of the blond’s shift. As John finishes cleaning the counter and the tables, he tries to wake up Ethan. Unfortunately, the brunette sleeps like a log. There is no other choice left – he has to let this hopeless fool rest in his apartment. After throwing Ethan’s arm around his shoulders, John carries him to his car.
Some time passes. After the blond removes his friend’s shoes and leather jacket, he lays him on the couch and covers him with warm green and orange checked blanket. Yet, before going to sleep, John sits next to an already slumbering brunette. Finally, he can relax for a moment after a long day at work.
Just as the blond is about to get up, he feels how someone carefully takes his tied hair and a half-asleep begging voice ‘‘Hey, don’t go yet.’’.
After John turns his head, he notices a half-sitting brunette who stares at him with sleepy eyes, and asks in a sad voice ‘‘Hey, is it okay to touch you before I die? All I need is a single touch before I’ll sleep forever…’’.
The blond only gets confused at such a request and genuinely asks ‘‘What are you talking about?’’. After John places his palm on Ethan’s forehead, he continues ‘‘See? You are still here, you silly.’’.
However, the brunette objects ‘‘But you are so pretty and nice like that flower. How is it called? Um, you know, the pretty purple one? Yeah, how is it? Ah! I remember. Wisteria, is it? See! I know so much. So, I wonder if a single touch of you would kill me. At least, then, I could rest in peace. And, without any regrets.’’.
Despite how hard Ethan tries to sound, the blond only facepalms ‘‘Please, get some rest, you fool. You are drunk as a boot, and you don’t know what you are talking about.’’.
‘‘But I’m drunk of your alluring beauty, and I cannot see anyone else but you. So, it’s your fault. I want you to take some responsibility, pretty boy ~’’ – Or so, Ethan objects while trying to sound as serious as he could.
John rolls his eyes, and replies ‘‘It is a whiskey is talking, not you. So, by the morning, you’ll forget how you even got here. Good night and rest well!-’’. However, before he stands up, the brunette wraps his arms around his waist and refuses to let him go. Fortunately, soon enough, Ethan falls asleep while still hugging him. In the end, John addresses again the slumbering drunk brunette ‘‘Have guts to say it when you will be sober…’’. For a while, he silently observes peacefully resting Ethan.
'How much there was the truth in these words?' - Or so, John wonders. Perhaps, he'll ask in the morning. But for now, the blond is more curious whenever that flower is real or something that Ethan added only as another detail with oh-so-deeper thought for his poems.

The holiday season is always associated with a cheerful and warm mood, snow, sweets, spending time with the family, etc. One could even say that it is a magical time when your dreams may come true. Unfortunately, not everyone can experience it. That’s right, of all days possible, Evans was asked to work on Christmas Eve. It's nothing like he had big plans, but he wants to take a break and have time for himself. Like on purpose, that day starts in not the best way possible.
First, his alarm clock didn't work for some reason. So, rushing and nearly tripping over is not the best way for the blond to start his day.
Then, being stuck in a traffic jam is one thing. The blond got used to it already when using public transport. On the other hand, the snow becomes the new greatest enemy! No, not the one in the park or trees, but the one on the streets. Not only, the sludge splashes nearly all over his coat, but Evans managed to land his foot deep into it. For now, he deeply exhales and shakes his head while praying that no one would talk to him or else there will be, as he calls, “Happy Little Accidents”.
After just reaching the office, he notices something on the board. Along with other information for workers, there is a new poster. It mentions holding a party for the workers on New Year Eve and how everyone is welcome to join. Of course, Evans stares at it with an indifferent face and decides that it would be better to celebrate in his home alone with his precious Sultan. Even now, the idea of having his cream-color Persian cat resting on his lap and stroking its fur sounds like a blessing. Besides, the blond begins to get into a depressing mood by remembering how the last party went. So, who knew that orange juice is mixed with vodka, and how taking that shot was the last thing he remembers. Then, how Sultan was on top of him and demanding food. Even to this day, he does not understand how he ended up in his apartment and peacefully sleeping while nicely tucked in on the couch. More so, wearing a clean shirt.
‘Well, whatever, it’s nothing that it will happen twice, nor I’ll know who was that person.’ — Or so, the blond thinks as he fixes the suit. And thus, another day in the office begins.
As time flies by, it is the end of the shift. Finally, the blond could escape from this place and peacefully rest. However, Evans' enthusiasm instantly disappears when he feels how someone gently places the hand on his shoulder. Then, addressing him in a shy yet, polite tone ‘‘Um, Mr. Jones, the chief Marude would like to have a talk with you in his office. So, I would like you to come with me, please.’’.
When the blond turns his head, he notices a familiar brunette secretary, May. Despite being a newbie and clumsy, she has become a chief's favorite, or so, assumed Evans from observing how he acts towards her. Why he has to be so kind and forgiving towards that woman? Why, of all people, it has to be her? What does she do that the blond cannot? He works way harder, after all. — Evans wanders.
No, he is not jealous or anything! Who him? Oh no, no, no. You have to be kidding! Not him at all! Nor, he has a crush on a chief. At least, not since his first day in the office. Lastly, when he was warmly greeted and had his hair ruffled.
‘‘Are you okay, Jones? Do-do you have a fever? Maybe you should go home, then. I just let chief Marude know that you’re feeling unwell…’’ — interrupts the brunette’s concerned voice.
Suddenly, the blond is caught off guard while he too deeply thinks. He only shakes his head and faces. Once Evans keeps the serious face, he defends himself ‘‘I’m fine! I’ll go. Just give me a second, okay? I wonder what does he want now. Couldn’t he ask whatever it is earlier…’’. When the blond stands up, he follows the young secretary.
After the elevator reaches the top floor where is the director’s office, he cannot help himself but worry that he may do something wrong. When May knocks on the door and reports ‘‘Sir, I brought mister Jones as you asked. Can we come in?’’.
‘‘Sure, come on in.’’ — the voice from behind the door answers. As both enter the office, the man with dark hair and a stylish short beard, who looks in his forties, asks the secretary ‘‘Thank you, May. But could you leave us for a couple of minutes?’’.
The brunette only politely nods and leaves the room. Soon enough, the man sitting behind the desk addresses the blond ‘‘Why are you standing here like you are a stranger, Evans? You can come closer.’’.
For sure, when the chief is asking him in such a calm and polite tone, Evans could not disagree and listen to this request.
‘‘Do you know why I call you today?’’ — adds Marude.
The blond only shakes his head ‘‘No, sir.’’.
Oh no, could it be? Did he somehow manage to get in trouble? Is he getting fired? And of all possible days, on Christmas Eve? Poor blond prepares for the worst.
‘‘Is there anything wrong? You look so stiff.’’ — the dark-haired man asks in a concerned tone. After he opens one of the drawers, he looks for a specific item. Once Marude picks up a small package wrapped in rustling gift-paper and ribbon, he gives it to Evans ‘‘Merry Christmas, Evans! And Thank You for hard work this year.’’.
For sure, such an unexpected gesture surprises Evans. He only dumbfounded stares at his present. After he unwraps the paper and opens the package, the blond is astonished.
‘Did chief Marude really put the effort and made this gingerbread? If so, why did he have to go through all this trouble just for me?’ — thinks blond while carefully holding the package.
Yet, Evans lowers his head to hide his reddening face while he replies in a shy tone ‘‘Th-thank you so much…’’.
The chief only cracks a smile and chuckles ‘‘My pleasure! Anyway, and here is for your little friend. Hopefully, he likes this flavor. Oh, and, don't forget to say ‘hi’ from me.’’. Now, he opens the drawer to find another item. It is a bag of chicken flavor treats for cats.
‘Where did he learn that I have a cat? Wait… Don’t tell me… Could it be? Was it the chief, who helped me to get home and took care of me?’ — The blond suddenly realizes while he stares at all these presents.
Lastly, Marude suggests in a kind tone ‘‘Then, should I give a ride to your home?’’.
For sure, Evans is glad to get spoiled by the person he adores the most. So, he accepts this offer. Perhaps, this is the first step towards their relationship? Evans hopes so. However, he decides to wait for the right moment to tell those three such simple, but at the same time, most challenging words. So, who knows if it will be like a so-called Christmas miracle, which would happen to him.
