An unknown amount of time passes by.

Soon, the blonde wakes up while groaning. Even so, Goeniko’s head feels so heavy and aching that it could explode at any moment.

Whatever this place is, even the mild breeze gives her goosebumps all over her skin, making her shiver and rub her arms.

After she sits up and holds her aching head while leaning on her elbow, Goeniko looks around.

Judging from her surroundings alone, she might be in an old, probably abandoned, temple whose walls reflect a weak orange flame.

The blonde feels uneasy as she notices she lies from what appears a sacrificial table and is dressed in an unfamiliar yet oddly recognizable blue military-style outfit.

As she examines the room more closely, she notices eight enormous, dark stone snakes decorating the walls, and their bare fangs loom over her. She widens her big blue eyes and comments uncertainly. “Just what in the name of-, is this place?”

Suddenly, she is startled by one after another, and the snakes’ eyes lighten up with tiny purple flames.

A second later, she shakily closes her eyes and covers her head as another powerful wave of headache hits her.

Meanwhile, all the poor maiden can do is shamelessly whimper as the various flashbacks of the deep past rush to her mind.

The first one is about an enormous eight-headed with eight tails snake of the size of eight valleys and eight hills.

Apparently, the legendary creature is fighting back against a divine being wielding a powerful sword that cuts half of its limbs.

At that moment, Goeniko can feel the serpent’s pure fury and hatred after being tricked by his enemy.

Despite that, after a hard-fought battle, the eight-headed snake greets its demise.

Another flashback starts similarly.

However, this time, it is a beautiful woman with long white hair and a white robe dealing with three enemies.

Suddenly, the blonde opens her eyes and breathes deeply, while she can hear her heartbeat ringing inside her head upon noticing a strangely familiar tattoo on this woman’s chest.

More so, when she gathers her remaining strength to unleash a finishing strike, that tattoo on her body glows in white.

At that moment, Goeniko senses that this battle’s outcome is the same as the previous one.

In the last vision, the blue-eyed nun is in awe at seeing one fluffy silver-haired male fighting against three people with similar auras to the previous ones.

After all, he looks like a perfect copy of the albino grass snake in his human form.

More importantly, he has a god-like figure, short, fluffy hair, and the same tattoo pattern on his chest and abs. It even glows in the same light as the woman she saw earlier.

Suddenly, the blonde gets on her knees and bends down while grasping around her throat.

Meanwhile, Goeniko desperately fights for a single gulp of fresh hair and shakily tries to remove the invisible threat.

Unfortunately, she slowly loses the battle while her face twists in pain, and feeling the sharp claws sinking into her burning neck.

In the current flashback, that man is in the air and choked by some redhead with murderous intentions for this entity.

Lastly, the brunette aids him by sending a wave of orange flame into his back to finish the divine entity.

Suddenly, the last vision is cut off, and Goeniko is released from the suffering.

A second later, without a second thought, she speaks up one certain name in a quiet, weak voice. “… Orochi-sama…”

After carefully brushing her neck and cheeks, the blue-eyed nun can feel her smooth skin, which has no bruises. Although, her cheeks were wet from the tears when she was choked.

“What is just my imagination? What I have just saw?” the blonde whispers in disbelief.

Yet, she gets alerted upon hearing one divine creature’s calm voice. “Did you call me?”

Apparently, it’s none other than the fluffy silver-haired male.

“It’s been a while and looks like your memory is returning.” He comments while smirking.

When Goeniko sits on the edge of the sacrificial altar, she shrugs as this deity approaches her.

After Orochi gets close to her, he softens his gaze. “You do not need to fear me.”

For sure, his voice strangely puts her at ease, and she lowers her shoulders.

The preserved nun takes a step closer while holding her chest. “Were you the one who let me see these visions?”

Orochi places his palm on her cheek. “Perhaps so. Have you not figured out yet?”

The sudden realization shocks the blonde. All she can do is whisper in disbelief. “Wait… Could it be - you are the same eight-headed snake I saw earlier?”

For now, Orochi only nods and explains in a calm tone. “Do you not understand yet? It’s one of your first ancestors that raised me and taught me a lot about Gaia.”

Soon, Orochi’s face darkens. “As time went on, these pesky parasites who call themselves humans turned their backs to the gods and not only they disrespected but abused my precious Gaia. Of course, I had to punish these pathetic worms and kill them all.”

Meanwhile, Goeniko only carefully listens to the proud divine deity. “However, your ancestors step in and intrigued me by offering me their finest wine and a sacrifice once per year. For years, I was satisfied and these pathetic creatures feared me. Even if they disobeyed me, I would destroy a village or two to remind their place.”

After a brief pause, he adds. “Unfortunately, the gods sent that cursed Susanoo to do all the dirty work to get rid of me. If I only knew that something was off about that generous offer of sake, I would not fall for his trap and I could have crushed him like any other human who dared to challenge me. However, I regained my consciousness too late, and I stood no chance against him.”

At that moment, Goeniko turns her head and lowers her gaze.

After noticing the gloomy maiden, the fluffy silver-haired male gently tilts her chin and exhales. “You should not blame yourself. Your ancestors never betrayed me and served me well. They even got a cult of followers that worshiped me. Besides, I only lost my body after that fateful battle.”

A second later, he gives a comforting smile. “As years have passed, I finally found a suitable host that could contain my soul without breaking it. However, this time, the heirs of Kusanagi, Yasakani and Yata wanted to stop me. Even with limitations of the human body I had, we still had a long, but a great fight, even if I was defeated again.”

After briefly closing his eyes, Orochi confesses with a satisfied look. “Yet, a year hasn’t passed, and I was greeted with a rather unexpected turn of events. Apparently, Yasakani’s jealousy has brought him to my shrine. At first, I ignored that weak-willed man, but he was too stubborn, and his request piqued my curiosity. I granted him a grain of my power for him and his descendants, giving up their family name. Thus, the day when once known Yasakani flame became purple, was the beginning of the Kusanagi and Yagami clans becoming sworn enemies.”

Lastly, he adds. “Centuries have passed. And the Hakkesshus has finally broken the seal. Unfortunately, even if I forced Yagami to awake and fulfil his mission to kill the Kusanagi’s heir, he has failed miserably. Even after I got resurrected and had another battle against the recent generation of the Sacred Treasures, I was sealed again.”

When the blonde finishes listening to Orochi’s story, she still has a lot of unanswered questions.

Despite that, she widens her big blue eyes and gives a questioning look while supporting her chin. “Wait… Don’t tell me… That animal fight I saw before meeting you - was it also your fight against these bad people?”

Meanwhile, the divine entity slowly blinks and nods.

Goeniko places her palms on his chest and gently pushes him away before stepping back.

While she keeps her hand close to her heart, she asks without removing her eyes from Orochi. “I don’t understand… How can you be sure that I am from the same clan you mentioned? What if you are mistaking me for someone else?”

“Then, raise your palm while aiming at any of these statues.” The silver-haired male orders.

For a second, Goeniko doubts this man’s intentions. Yet, she straightens her back and does what she has to do.

Suddenly, she feels the gush of wind running through her palm and fingertips before releasing it.

A second later, one of the snake’s flames dimmed away.

It surprises Goeniko, but it feels so natural for her as it always has been with her.

Meanwhile, Orochi keeps a satisfied look on his face while crossing his arms and resting his head on his fingers. “I knew I was right. You are a descendant of the Hakkesshu clan, after all.”

A couple of moments later, he wraps his arms around his partner and closes his eyes.

At that moment, Goeniko feels the heat rushing to her cheeks and narrows her gaze as one arm pulls her into a tighter hug while another strokes her head.

Soon, Orochi comments in a soft tone. “It seems that no matter for how long the time has separated us, the fate has finally brought us together. … As it should be. However, I’ll make sure that you won’t need to suffer any longer.”

Meanwhile, the blonde silently exhales and closes her eyes while resting her head against her adored person’s chest.

After a while, the blonde pushes him away gently, placing her palms on his chest and keeping her demanding eyes on him. “Then there is something I need to do first.”

When Orochi releases her from the tender embrace, Goeniko lowers herself to one knee, her head bowed in reverence. “I, Goeniko of the Hakkesshu clan, offering you my body, heart and soul as my humble sign of loyalty to you. From this moment forward, I swear to protect you with all that I am. No harm shall befall you as long as I draw breath. Your enemies shall become mine, and your battles, my own.”

After she lifts her head, she adds with a firm determination in her voice. “All I ever wish is for being like you and be guided by you. So, please, lead me in that way of being.”

For now, Orochi lowers his hand and brings it to the preserved nun.

Thus, without hesitation, Goeniko takes it into her palms and brings it to her cheek. Upon nuzzling it, she closes her loving eyes.

The divine being is satisfied and approves the blonde’s genial vow. “How fitting of you. Very well. Rise, Goeniko. Your loyalty and strength shall not go unnoticed. Together, we shall navigate the currents of fate, and you shall be an extension of my will in this world.”

In the end, Goeniko lands a soft kiss on his palm before allowing him to help her to stand up.

Thus, the two figures, god and mortal, stood united in their destiny, ready to face whatever challenges awaited them in this otherworldly realm.

As the last echoes of their vows lingered in the air, the sacred flames continued to dance, casting a warm glow on the ancient temple that had witnessed the intertwining of their fates.

Somewhere, in another place and time. After the early morning sunbeam reaches Goeniko’s face, she frowns and wrinkles her nose.

Yet, even while her eyes are closed, the blonde can sense that something is off, and brushing the wet grass with her hands is just the beginning.

Firstly, she is not feeling herself. But as a completely different person.

Secondly, the rough material rubs against her body without knowing who dressed her in these clothes.

After the blonde opens her eyes and checks by herself whether it was just a bad feeling or whenever her mind is playing tricks on her.

When Goeniko gets up, she looks around and notices that she is no longer in the world nor in the timeline, she knew.

However, she is sure about one thing. It wasn’t an ordinary forest after the refreshing rain. Even the atmosphere differs from the one in the living world.

The sacred and serene aura lingers in the air. Strangely, the wild animals and birds do not mind Goeniko and live as if she is not there.

While the blonde wanders in the forest filled with various songs of the birds, she searches for the one white snake and that mysterious man with fluffy silver hair.

After a while, she discovers the lake hidden by the tall trees.

When she gets to the shore, she kneels and observes the reflection in the water.

Goeniko notices that this woman looks almost like her, only a few years older than her. More so, she has green eyes, and her long hair is tied in a thick braid, which reaches below her ankles.

She also wears a long flax robe tied up with a Baltic-styled ornamented band, and on top of her head - a crown made from various flowers and herbs.

‘‘Just who, in the name of, am I? Why am I in this body?’’ Goeniko asks herself in disbelief.

However, the woman in the reflection remains silent and stares back at her with the same dumbfounded face.

Perhaps, that man tricked her and sent her to the netherworld. On the other hand, why would he do it? He does not seem to have bad intentions. Or so, the blonde wonders as she stands up.

For now, she needs to find anyone who will know what kind is this place and how to get back home.

Some time passes. After wandering in the endless forest, the blonde hears human voices and laughs in the distance.

When she gets close enough, she hides behind the old oak and glances at the people.

Fortunately, Goeniko is fast enough to cover her mouth from loudly gasping. There are four people, but they are not from this world. At least, this is what the blonde assumes.

One of them is a lively woman with sparkling eyes who wears a long crimson dress with long, loose sleeves and draped an orange shawl over her shoulders. She also has golden bracelets and a crown with red gems resembling the flame. Even her hair was made of fire.

The other person next to her doesn’t have a human head, and his entire body is covered in beautiful black and white feathers while his nape and back in gray, and the wings - are ebony. This winged man with the northern goshawk’s head wears a white silk tunic with golden borders, platinum cuffs, and a medallion with spiral ornaments resembling the wind waves.

Then, there is another couple in front of them. From the way how that woman closely leans against the wrathful man, the blonde can assume that they might be a married couple or lovers.

That woman with a mature, gentle, and loving mother’s face has dark brown hair, covered by a white, long scarf decorated with attached silver suns, moons, water droplets, leaves, and thunder symbols. Her long dress resembles the fertile soil with the young plants and blossom buds growing in the neat ornament.

Next to her, proudly stands a man with a wrathful and unpleasant face and rough, long hair and beard. He also has the goat’s horns, a golden crown, and a necklace with thunder, while he wears black and white clothes. He carries a large ax behind his back, and it looks like he could throw it at any moment.

Meanwhile, the blonde realizes it isn’t worth risking her life to learn more about these four entities. Unfortunately, it was already too late for her to run away.

Suddenly, the woman of the flames turns her head and playfully smirks in the same direction as Goeniko.

‘‘What are you so happy about, Gabija1? Mind to share it with us?’’ The winged man addresses her.

As the goddess continues to glare at the hiding blonde, she replies in an innocent voice ‘‘I think you should know better, Vėjas1 ~ There is a fifth guest among us. However, she is too shy to join us.’’.

The bearded man announces as he takes out his ax ‘‘There is a human walking in the sacred forest!? I won’t forgive this insolent woman! I will strike her with my thunder! No human shall escape their punishment!’’

However, his wife steps up and places her palm on his chest ‘‘Dear Perkūnas1, do not dare to hurt this poor child. Perhaps, she doesn’t mean to disrespect us. That’s why let her talk first. Then, you can decide what is the best.’’.

The thunder god frowns and lowers the ax ‘‘Very well, Žemyna1. However, no matter what reason that foolish human has, I do not allow leaving the forest as if nothing happened.’’.

Lastly, the earth goddess rests her head on her husband’s shoulder and closes her eyes ‘‘Thank you.’’.

Meanwhile, Vėjas waits and observes how the poor human, who trembles like a leaf, will act.

Finally, Gabija addresses Goeniko in a serious tone ‘‘Come out, girl. We already know that you were watching us. We won’t hurt you if you tell us why are you here.’’.

She has no other choice but to listen to the four gods. After shakily closing her eyes and taking a deep breath, Goeniko reveals herself. No matter what the outcome awaits, she keeps her pride and accepts her fate.

‘‘What brought you here, dear vaidilutė1?’’ Žemyna asks the humble blonde.

However, Goeniko dumbfounded stares at the goddess. She does not know what it could mean, nor what to say. Even if the blonde knows that the silence will only madden the divine deities, she refuses to say anything.

For sure, such behavior doesn’t satisfy Perkūnas, and he speaks in a strict voice ‘‘Are you deaf? Or are you mocking us, you foolish woman? Even if you served us well since your childhood, you have no right to walk in our forest! Vėjūnė the vaidilutė, speak the truth only! We know everything about you mortals. It’s pointless to hide anything from us.’’.

‘So, this is who am I in this world… But why? Why did a white snake put me into this body? What does he want to show me?’ Goeniko thinks to herself. Yet, she cannot wonder any longer.

After all, not only her but also the so-called Vėjūnė’s life is at stake. More importantly, the blonde cannot afford herself such luxury as fear and despair.

Even if she may perish, Goeniko decides to face it, having nothing to lose. She only has one chance to prove herself.

After the green-eyed woman kneels on one knee and bows, she politely answers as Vėjūnė ‘‘Please forgive me for intruding on your place. Not I’m here because I wanted to be.’’.

When Vėjūnė opens her eyes and lifts her head, she stares directly at the gods ‘‘I’m not here to beg for your mercy or kindness. However, I will not waste your time and tell you what I know. I recall nothing else after I woke up in this forest.’’.

Although, these words are the last drop of the thunder god’s patience. Without holding back his rage, Perkūnas scolds her while holding the lighting in his hand ‘‘Are aware in what position you? Know your place, maiden!’’.

Just before he launches the lighting strike, the flaming palms hold his wrist. As the wrathful god turns his head, he notices how Gabija grasps his wrist ‘‘Wait! I have a better idea. It might be even better than declaring your justice upon her. Can you listen to me?’’.

Perkūnas only raises an eyebrow ‘‘What are you suggesting?’’.

After releasing his wrist, the fire goddess replies ‘‘She doesn’t lie to us, Perkūnas. I can sense it. Either way, this vaidilutė cannot return to her world, and she may die soon. Be it by your hand or becoming the next sacrifice. However, I would consider keeping her alive.’’.

‘‘Why do you want to keep this human alive, Gabija?’’ The earth goddess calmly addresses her.

Gabija softens her gaze ‘‘It is hard for us to see upset and mourning when one of your precious creations dies before their time, Žemyna. However, you can change that by giving her another life. Besides, I know this woman will serve and support you, even when your child is born. She may be a wonderful mentor for the baby and teach about our world and the earth realm.’’.

However, Žemyna stares at Vėjūnė while doubting if this woman is capable of what Gabija claims. In the end, she addresses the eldest god ‘‘You were keeping your eyes on this woman all the time, Vėjas. Do you also have any plans for her?’’.

Meanwhile, the poor vaidilutė impatiently waits while her life depends on the hands of the gods.

Lastly, Vėjas responds ‘‘I can sense that there is something special about this woman. However, I need to test her first. Listen to my advice, Žemyna. Make this woman into your maid. I’m certain that you will not regret it.’’.

Then, he addresses Perkūnas ‘‘Perkūnas, I can see how you are against keeping this human alive. But, consider. You will keep an eye on her all you want. If she tries to run away or harms your wife or her child, you have full rights to do anything you want to her.’’.

As the thunder god rubs his chin, he makes his mind. When his ax hits the ground, he declares ‘‘Stand up, Vėjūnė the vaidilutė! Your fate has been decided, and your pitiful life depends on me. From now on, you are no longer the holy maiden nor the protector of nature. You’ve been blessed by serving the great goddess of earth - Žemyna! Disrespect or upset her once, and you will curse the day you were born.’’.

No matter how much Goeniko hates that someone else decides her fate or what she should do, she understands that she cannot refuse the gods’ will. More importantly, she has no choice but to live as Vėjūnė until she wakes up being herself again.

In the end, the green-eyed blonde swallows her pride and shows her gratitude toward the four divine deities.

A few years pass by, and Goeniko continues to live as Vėjūnė. She even got used to her new home, which became the sacred forest.

As she promised, she was taking care of Žemyna’s child from the first moment he was delivered to this world.

Vėjūnė loved this enormous eight-headed grass-snake as her child and wanted to protect it from any harm or evil of the human world. More so, the great snake is fond of his adoptive mother.

The blonde also patiently teaches this child about respecting and loving Gaia along with understanding that all living creatures and their environment are connected and dependent on the earth and its resources.

The blonde also mentions to him how easily can the balance between the inorganic world and the living creatures can be destroyed. Lastly, how the earth herself is a living organism that will fight back against the parasites who will harm her. Therefore, no human or another creature can live without Gaia’s kindness, but she can live without those who upset her.

However, very little Vėjūnė knows that each word or movement is followed by one goshawk.

Some time passes. The servant of Žemyna is busy getting the water from the nearest river that she doesn’t realize about the dark shadow watching over her.

Suddenly, the blowing wind into her back and the familiar voice make her widen her eyes ‘‘It’s been a while, Vėjūnė. Are you doing well?’’.

After the blonde stands up and turns around, she notices the god of wind and dumbfounded stares at him.

‘‘Do not fret. I came to visit you. However, you weren’t aware that I was testing you all this time, and I’m glad that my senses aren’t wrong.’’ Vejas calmly comments.

‘‘What are you talking about? All I do is accomplish my duties by serving the goddess and her son.’’ Vėjūnė replies in a serious tone.

Despite that, the winged man continues his proud speech ‘‘And you’ve done well, my dear child. Not only Žemyna is proud by having you by her side, but you have proven yourself to Perkūnas to be worthy.’’.

Vėjūnė raises an eyebrow and backfires in a doubtful tone ‘‘You didn’t come here just to tell me this and waste your precious time on a mere human, did you?’’.

Vėjas replies ‘‘You are correct, I did not come here empty-handed.’’.

After a brief pause, he continues ‘‘Humans do not live together with the sun, Vėjūnė. Unfortunately, I cannot grant you eternal life and let you stay by Žemyna’s child's side. No matter how he becomes fond of you. However, I need to keep your bloodline alive.’’.

Suddenly, the blonde falls on her knees like a rag-doll and was about to burst into tears.

Yet, as Vėjas gently ruffles her hair, he comforts her ‘‘I do not force you to marry me, nor become my lover, Vėjūnė. I cannot fall this low and betray my children or my wife. My dear, you shouldn’t be scared or ashamed because the goddess’s child will be by your side. All I want is for you and your descendants to continue serving and protecting Žemyna’s child for the generations to come. You may not have the godspeed as they do, nor you will wield my wind. But you will be known and respected as Vėjūnė, the proud and wise woman, who was beloved by the gods.’’.

In the end, the blonde lifts her head and wipes her tears. After taking a deep breath, she briefly answers ‘‘Alright, I understand. What should I do?’’.

‘‘Close your eyes and believe in me. I will give you the breath of the new life.’’ Vėjas explains.

After the wind god flaps his wings, Vėjūnė feels the soft breeze blowing toward her and how her body absorbs it.

Suddenly, Goeniko senses how the true host of the blonde’s body is waking up and rejecting her. Soon enough, the blue-eyed loses the fight against Vėjūnė, and she loses consciousness.

It is the beginning of another day. Even if the sun has barely risen, the life in one local monastery is lively and energetic.

That’s right, who is already working in the garden, who in the kitchen. There is a lot to do before the Morning Prayer. However, neither of the nuns is afraid of the hard work because it is just a part of their routine.

Perhaps, such a lifestyle might be too difficult for some people, including new members who joined the monastery. Of course, no one locks you away, and anyone feels free to leave.

After all, if you are truly faithful, you do not need to live inside the church to feel the Lord’s presence and reach out to Him. Sometimes people forget He does not have one exact location. He is everywhere - inside of each and everyone’s heart.

That’s why, hard work, aiding the vulnerable, and showing the right path, take a lot of time, patience, and understanding. Most importantly, you need a strong will to commit yourself and show the Lord’s love for every living creature through your deeds and words. Or so, they taught one young blonde nun since her early days.

And thus, this is where the story of one nun looking for her right path and true place in her life begins.

It is sunny and bright at midday. Even if all the morning work is done, there is still a whole day ahead.

However, just before preparing lunch, the elderly nun looks around in the kitchen, just in case whenever something is missing.

After closing one of the cupboard doors, she calls the first nun on her sigh ‘‘Goeniko, can you quickly run to the shop?’’.

The blue-eyed maiden objects in a calm and polite tone ‘‘But Sister Annette, I’ve done that last time. Why won’t Sister Marie do it instead?’’.

Meanwhile, the sister who peels the potatoes gets startled by the blonde nun just calling her name. Despite that, she continues her job while listening.

But for now, Annette places her hand on Goeniko’s shoulder and prompts her to go outside.

On their way, she addresses the blonde in a patient tone “You need to understand that every little work is important, and that no one is perfect. Sometimes we make mistakes. That’s why, you should be more forgiving and understanding towards Marie.”.

“She lives here for a half year and she doesn’t even try to improve! All I did is pointing that out. That’s why she has no reason to be upset.” Goeniko replies in a slightly indignant tone.

“Please, carefully think about it during your trip. Perhaps, all what Marie might need is a good example. Besides, you wouldn’t be happy if someone would be harsh on you just because you are still learning. So, anyone can judge without knowing about what that person went through. However, only a few tries to understand and correct one’s way. That does why, instead of being a harsh judge, be brave enough to become a caring mentor. “ The elder nun explains.

In the end, Goeniko ends up listening to another lecture session because someone is too clumsy and not so intelligent. She knows that it’s not worth arguing because how it might be pointless, and due to show respect towards the person who raised her.

After the blonde nun closes her eyes, she nods “Alright, Sister Annette. I understand. Thank you for the advice.”. And thus, she departs for another trip to the town. However, behind that serene smile, she thinks ‘That stupid dimwit is going to have a long, long talk once I return.’.

Some time passes. Goeniko is on her way back to the monastery while carrying a large basket with groceries.

The only thing why the blue-eyed nun is fine running errands like this is because there is beautiful scenery that is not that far from a monastery.

That’s right; there is a river with crystal clear water, which is separated from the outer world by the trees. The ambiance of the rustling leaves and flowing water are so relaxing and calming that it helps to escape the gray routine.

Besides, after closing your eyes and emptying your head from any thoughts, you can slowly feel the part of the Gaia, how every living creature is connected to this world, and how one cannot exist without another.

Therefore, such a calming oasis has become Goeniko’s favorite resting point before continuing her earthly works.

Suddenly, she stops as she hears the loud hissing, growling, and croaking.

‘Just what in the world it could be?’ The blonde wonders. Even the dark cloud gathers and covers the sun.

Yet, instead of moving on and avoiding the potential threat, she gets closer to the direction of that sound. She had to know what was happening in her once-beloved place.

As Goeniko carefully approaches behind one tree, she sticks her head to check who this unholy beast is.

Apparently, on the riverside, the unusually large wounded grass-snake shields its nest with eight still unhatched eggs, and while standing tall, it hisses at its opponents and is ready to strike at any moment.

In front of the grass-snake, the crane stands with widely spread wings, and behind it, the tuxedo cat growls with ruffled fur. Lastly, near the cat, a grass-snake with bite marks observes and waits with its constantly showing up the tongue.

Finally, the large reptile makes the first move - it aims at the crane. Yet, this bird gracefully dodges the attack and jumps into the air. The flapping wings create a strong wind that is powerful enough to knock the eggs off the snake’s grasp and crack them.

Even if the poor grass-snake lost its babies, it prepares to punish its killer. Lastly, the giant reptile opens its mouth and strikes the hovering bird.

This time, the snake bites into the wing. However, as the crane turns its head, it lets out a painful croak and falls to the ground.

Yet, there is no time to celebrate. The smaller grass snake stings the neck of the bigger snake. Lastly, even the cat dashes at its opponent and scratches it.

For sure, a strange nature display makes the blonde feel like it is nothing more than a dream. Yet, she cannot just wait and let these ferocious animals finish the mother who protects her children.

More so, she has the strange feeling of déjà vu that something like this happened in the past. Also, the large grass snake reminds her of someone she knew in the past.

After taking a deep breath, Goeniko breaks the tree branch and rushes toward the wounded snake.

Fortunately, she is on time before the barely standing on legs crane stabs the enormous snake with its beak.

As the blue-eyed nun holds the branch, the bird widely spreads its wings and lowers its neck. It even lets out a low-pitch croaking.

“Someone is cranky, I see. What a ferocious bird are you...” Goeniko remarks as she refuses to show any sign of fear. She continues in a strict tone “I won’t repeat it twice - leave this poor creature alone. Now.”.

When she accidentally points the branch toward the other two animals, the crane jumps and kicks her.

For sure, such a sudden attack startles her, yet Goeniko closes her eyes and shields her face and chest from the sharp nails.

After she opens her eyes, she sees this bird squatting while its wings protect the cat and the smaller snake.

More importantly, through the gaps of feathers, she spots how a tuxedo feline licks the grass-snakes wounds. For sure, such a weird behavior confuses the blue-eyed nun.

In the end, the crane stands up and firstly picks the smaller snake by its beak and throws it on its back, and later on, the cat. After checking that these two won’t fall, the elegant bird takes off while ignoring its wounded and bleeding wing.

Eventually, when the sky becomes clear, the warm sunbeams shine on the battlefield.

‘Why does the crane have to shield them as her own family? And why these different animals to fight each other?’ Goeniko wonders. No matter how long she thinks, she cannot understand them.

Meanwhile, the large snake behind Goeniko’s back silently crawls to gather all the scattered eggs. Lastly, the reptile stares at its dead babies while holding them closely by its tail.

Such a sad scene makes her feel bad for the poor mother snake.

Soon enough, the blonde turns around and squats in front of the mourning grass-snake. Then, she addresses it in a comforting voice “You poor thing... You did everything that’s been in your power to protect those whom you care. But do not blame yourself for that. I’m certain that these children are in the better place.”.

After these words, the grass-snake stares with its constantly showing up tongue while Goeniko leans closer to its children.

“You do not need to be threatened, snake. I do not wish you any harm unless you’ll manage to provoke me. So, let me see your wounds and then give a proper burial for these babies and send them on the new journey. It’s all that I ask for.” The blue-eyed nun adds in a calm and confident tone.

At first, she is prepared that this snake will try to sting her hand if she gets any closer. Despite that, she knows she has to help the grass snake.

Surprisingly, the wounded reptile doesn’t mind such an approach and moves just enough to expose its injuries.

As Goeniko carefully brushes with her palm the scales, she softens her gaze and remarks on spotted wounds ‘‘It must be painful for you… But I’ll need you to endure it for a little longer. Don’t worry, gladly here grows herbs which may help you. So, let me get them for you.’’.

And thus, with these words, the blonde left the grass snake’s side.

After a few minutes, the blue-eyed nun returns with a good handful of needed medical herbs. Yet, as she notices that the grass-snake left the nest, she nearly drops them.

Unfortunately, even Goeniko’s voice cannot stop the reptile nor makes it look back ‘‘Wait! Just because these animals killed your family, you can’t throw away your life for vengeance.’’.

All she left to do is watch how the grass-snake swims towards the direction where the crane is gone until it disappears from the sight.

‘‘Oh dear… what am I going to do with these now?’’ Goeniko tells herself as she stares at the picked herbs.

Once she kneels to pick up these eight unfortunate souls and bury them in the sand, her eyes widen.

Apparently, one egg starts to move. After a while, the tiny albino snake hatches from it. For sure, seeing how a new life sees the world makes the blonde glad and relieved.

As Goeniko carefully takes this little creature into her palm, she remarks in a gentle tone ‘‘Look at you. Despite the tragic fate of your brothers and sisters, it is still a miracle that you are born. Yet, what should I do with you? I just cannot leave you alone. Your mother bravely fought to protect you, and I doubt she’ll return now. More importantly, I don’t know what to offer to you, little one.’’.

Yet, the tiny snake stares at her while still sitting in the eggshell while expecting something to happen.

In the end, the blonde exhales and brings the albino snake close to her chest ‘‘Fine. I’ll take you with me. However, you must promise me you won’t struggle too much. And before that, let me pay the respect for your fallen siblings.’’.

Some time passes. After Goeniko buries seven unborn grass-snakes and places flowers on their grave, she bids a farewell and leaves.

Gladly, the little albino snake seems to be a wise creature because of how it realizes to wrap around the blonde nun’s rosary, which she hides behind her tunic.

After a while, Goeniko returns to the monastery. In the end, she got scolded by Sister Tessa for being late. Yet, the blue-eyed nun refuses to say anything about what happened on the riverside nor the brought the tiny guest.

It is a late evening. Finally, Goeniko can rest in her room after another long day. Meanwhile, the albino snake is already feeling at home.

At the moment, this little fellow is comfortably curled and sleeping on the night drawer after drinking milk from the cup plate.

Of course, the blonde would need to lock her door each time she leaves the room. After all, who knows what the others will do upon noticing the tiny creature? So, being too cautious won’t do any harm.

But for now, Goeniko changes into her long silk night-dress, and before resting, she takes one more look at her new roommate.

The longer she looks at the little albino snake, the more she adores it.

There is something special about this little fellow, and she can sense it. Yet, aside from the snake’s unusual color, she feels like finally reuniting with someone she knew and cherished a long time ago. Yet the cruel fate separated them.

The blonde still cannot understand such inner and unexplained sensations. However, she doesn’t regret saving this little creature from certain doom and is glad that it even trusts her.

Months pass by without noticing. The little snake has grown a lot since being adopted by Goeniko. Nowadays, the grass snake can almost wrap around the blonde’s elbow.

That’s right, usually; the blonde extends her arm toward the albino reptile. Despite being a silent creature, such a fellow shows its affection by its eyes towards the hand which feeds him.

Meanwhile, the blue-eyed nun has already gotten used to being warmly welcomed by someone who is honestly happy being with her.

Even this kind of greeting becomes like a daily ritual when Goeniko returns to her room after a long day.

However, she brings the grass snake outside whenever it is possible. So, before going for groceries, she runs to her room and takes this fellow with her.

Even if the blonde is far away from the albino reptile, she can still sense how it watches over her and protects her from misfortune.

It is another evening. Nothing seemed to stand out during the peaceful time aside from the bright moonlight shining through the window.

After checking on an already sleeping grass snake by the end of her bed, Goeniko prepares to take a long bath before calling it a day.

It took a while for the bathtub to fill. Yet, as soon as the blonde gets inside, she can feel how her stiff body relaxes. And thus, without noticing, Goeniko sinks into such a self-indulging procedure.

Some time passes. After sitting up and about to get the nearest towel, she gets alerted. She could swear that is supposed to be hanged near the bathtub. However, it is missing.

Perhaps it fell. Or so, the blonde convinces herself.

After looking around, she notices that the towel and her night-dress are on the floor. When she grabs the towel, she can feel that something is sitting on it.

Apparently, the albino grass-snake crawled inside Goeniko’s clothes and towel while its tongue sticking out.

‘‘How did you get here? And what are you doing here? Leave!’’ The blue-eyed nun indignantly asks as she covers her breasts with her elbow.

Of course, she doesn’t expect the reptile to answer her question.

To her surprise, the albino snake speaks like a human ‘‘I will leave if you listen to what I have to say.’’.

‘For sure, it is just a weird dream, right? There is no way that snakes can talk even such awfully familiar voice.’ Goeniko wonders as she observes the cold-blooded fellow from above.

‘‘This can’t be happening… What do you want from me?’’ The blonde asks in an unsure tone.

‘‘Lower your other arm, and I’ll tell you.’’ The grass-snake backfires.

‘Since it is just a dream, and I might wake up any moment, I can play along with his made rules.’ Or so, she convinces herself while lowering her arm so that the grass-snake could crawl up.

After the albino reptile wraps around her elbow, she brings her arm to her while covering herself with another.

‘‘Is this what you wanted? Now, tell me, what do you might need from me?’’ Goeniko asks in a slightly nervous tone.

‘‘You do not seem to have any idea who am I, nor your memory is back yet.’’ The grass-snake replies in a calm voice.

‘‘What are you talking about? I lived long enough, and I know myself better than anyone else. So, you won’t trick me, snake.’’ She objects.

At the moment, the blonde could swear that the white grass-snake chuckles at her reply.

‘‘If that’s so? Then, I’m assuming that you don’t want to learn the truth. If you change your mind, I’ll wait for you in the same place where we first met. However, you must come alone, with no one following you.’’ The reptile explains in an amused voice.

‘‘Are you trying to lure me into your traps?’’ The blue-eyed nun asks.

The grass-snake replies before crawling down and leaving the bathroom ‘‘It’s up to you what you choose to believe. I’ll wait for you whenever you decide to show up or not, Goeniko.’’.

Just as Goeniko tries to stop the reptile, it is already gone. For sure, she does not know what just happened. Yet, after slapping her cheeks, she realizes she is fully awake.

Lastly, her curiosity wins, and she does as the albino snake asks her. Perhaps this creature might know something that she is not aware of.

Upon arriving at the destination place, Goeniko looks around. However, there is no sign of the albino snake, only the rustling tree leaves and the platinum moonlight shining down on the river.

Did she get deceived by that reptile? Or so the blonde wonders.

Suddenly, she hears the same familiar calm voice ‘‘So, you finally came. I’m glad that you made the right decision.’’.

The blonde looks around, yet she can’t see where that voice comes from.

The mysterious creature speaks to her ‘‘The human’s bare eye cannot see me. However, if you walk into the middle of the river and stand under the moonlight, you’ll see who I am.’’.

At first, Goeniko doubts whether she should listen to this request. What if the grass-snake wants to drown her? She is simply unsure. Without even realizing it, she holds her rosary and steps back.

But for now, the voice speaks up in a slightly upset tone ‘‘Are you afraid of me? Perhaps it was too early to ask you. Then, we’ll see next time when you are ready to face me, Goeniko.’’.

As the blonde tightly grasps her rosary, she suddenly tears it from her neck and rushes to the shore. Even her gaze and voice filled with the determination ‘‘Wait! Don’t just leave yet.’’.

After a brief pause, she continues ‘‘Never dare to underestimate me. I’ll do as you say.’’.

Even if Goeniko cannot see with whom she speaks, she can perfectly sense that this entity is glad about her decision.

When Goeniko removes her boots and clothes until she is wearing just her blue silk night-dress, she proudly walks towards the middle of the river.

Soon enough, the lukewarm water reaches the blue-eyed nun’s chest, and the full moon shines on her. She addresses the mysterious deity ‘‘I did what you said. So, show yourself.’’.

Suddenly, she feels how someone gently hugs her from behind and speaks to her in a nearly thrilled tone ‘‘It’s been a while, Goeniko.’’.

As she slowly turns back, she stares in awe at seeing who is in front of her.

Apparently, it is a young man with fluffy silver hair and a calm face. Yet, there is a familiar-looking sealing sign across his chest and abs. Once again, the blonde has the strange feeling of déjà vu.

‘‘Why do I feel that I know you for so long even if it is the first time I met you?… Who are you?’’ Goeniko asks in a shaky voice.

As the fluffy silver-haired young man places his hands on her cheeks, he replies with an amorous look on his face ‘‘I see that the part of you hasn’t completely forgotten about me. I’m so glad. I may help you remember your previous life. However, I cannot do it without your consent.’’.

‘‘What do I need to do?’’ The blonde asks with no second thought.

‘‘All I ask you is to have faith in me.’’ The divine deity replies.

Goeniko only cracks a smile ‘‘Why do I feel that I believed in you before without questioning my heart and mind? In that case, it should be an effortless task.’’.

‘‘Fair enough… I need you to close your eyes and leave the rest to me.’’.

After the blonde closes her eyes, she can feel how the divine being places one arm behind her while the other one in her heart area.

As he casts a silent spell and presses his palm against her chest, Goeniko lets out a sudden gasp before losing consciousness.

Suddenly, it rains from the clear sky. As the shiny silver-drops fall on them, the divine entity holds the blue-eyed nun and addresses her ‘‘I promise, when you wake up, our journey will begin. But for now, let the rain clean your soul and mind.’’.
